VINTAGE CHERRY Childs - Salesmans Sample Chest :: Dresser-Miniature - OLD RARE
Selling this Fantastic early 4 drawer cherry chest with porcelain knobs and a nice cut out base. it about 17 1/2 inches high with the splash and 16 1/2 inches at its widest point by about 9 inches at its widest point. The chest is hand made with square nails and all the drawer bottom are chamfered so they will fit that's where they used a draw knife to thin the wood so it would be thin enough to fit in the groove. The color is the typical red from cherry as it ages. You just cant duplicate that patina. as you can see in the pics the secondary wood has darkened from the age which I believe the secondary wood to be poplar or pine. The chest has been finished recently due to a large black rings that where in the top now they are gone. There was a little split to the molding on one side where the molding goes up the front at the end of the ... moredrawers which I did post a pic of it, was glued. The chest over all given the age is in great shape. I did want to say that the splash is held on with strips of wood but the nails in that are round finishing nails which could have been used later not sure but really doesn't effect the chest. The drawers are all complete and the secondary wood is oak as well. This is made in traditional colonial fashion. There has been ink spilled on the front right corner, as probably would happen in real life. It looks true to real life. We are offering this vintage and/or antique miniature chest or apprentice cabinet for your consideration. This small wooden chest is mostly made from walnut. There is also some pine and poplar as secondary wood. The piece is dovetailed and appears to be handmade. It appears not to have the original knobs. The drawers have hand cut dovetail drawer joints. There is a split across the back(see photo) It has a hand cut dovetailed top. Some of the lock holes look as if they might have once had decorative coverings. Perhaps made from wood or metal. Up for bid is the vintage/antique WOOD SALESMAN'S SAMPLE VANITY DRESSER/ CHEST OF DRAWERS w/ MIRROR. As seen in the pictures/ as described in the title. Looks to be about 1/4 scale. Features a rotating mirror and(3) operable drawers(2 small at top, 1 large at bottom) Arts and Crafts style. Unsigned/no maker's mark(s) Exact age is unknown but I would venture to guess it is from the late 19th/early-to-mid 20th century. Found at an indoor flea market in Andover, N.J. in a booth that was filled with only amazing, old treasures) Made of a lightweight/low density variety of wood(perhaps oak, pine or alike) held together with both nails& screws(see pics) Stained dark brown with lovely patina. Excellent vintage condition with NO major defects whatsoever. Some small/light scratches(mostly to dresser top surface) and other very minor"blemishes" ... morethroughout. Structurally solid& sturdy. Sits flat with NO wobble. I cleaned the dust and smudges off the mirror BUT did nothing else. So aside from the mirror. It is being offered for sale AS-FOUND, uncleaned. This is a miniature Lane Cedar Chest that measures 8.75 x 4.75 x 3.25 inches that evidently was designed for giving to a boy on graduation day. Or else for a basketball playing girl. It is stamped inside the lid"Sports Box By Lane" and on the base"C, 1996 The Lane Company, All Rights Reserved" If you are familiar with these small size Lane chests, you will remember how graduating high school girls, as far back as the 1930's or 40's, would be invited to go to their local furniture stores and pick up their graduation gift from Lane.a cedar chest for saving trinkets, jewelry, and mementos. I received one when I graduated back in the 1960's. This is an unusual one that you hardly ever see. The basketball court is painted on the lid in black, green, and brown. A barrel shaped drawer tops three smaller drawers. All finely dovetailed. The wonderful pressed glass knobs are original and add a little sparkle when the light hits them. The lower drawers are designed to open only when the top drawer is opened. When the top drawer is locked the entire case is secured.I do have the very nice steel& brass key) The face of the drawers is veneered in flame mahogany. The sides and top are solid woods. The case sits atop four turned ball feet. This chest is in very good overall condition with light wear and an older refinish. There are two small chips in the veneer. Not sure what the wood is, it is painted with old pale green paint Three drawers with original wood drawer pulls, the top pull is different, not sure if it was broken, nicely constructed with beadboard sides and empire detail. Old unfinished wood on the back, with the top third missing. Antique Miniature Lane Cedar Chest 1938 Dated
Miniature Lane Cedar Chest dated 1938 with the name of the High School girl who received it for graduation. This is one of the harder to find Miniature Lane Cedar Chests with the upright. Rounded corners containing 3 grooves. These chests were often given go stores that sold the Lane Cedar Chests and those stores would then pass them on to graduating seniors. This chest is in very good condition overall. It does have some nicks and scratches in it. However the finish is intact, no splits, cracks or chips in the wood. All the seams and joints are in excellent condition with no damage to them either. Lock is intact and even the wooden feet on the bottom(a rare option on these miniature chests if you look around) are 100% complete. Chest even has it's original hinges inside the lid, another rare feature as the majority of these have them ... moreon the outside. On the inside of the chest there is a black stain running along the bottom edge and also a large white stain. All of this is shown in the photographs. Please note: This is a used miniature cedar chest 75 years old. As such this chest does have signs of wear and tear, nicks, scratches and the stains as I've mentioned. It is not new, it shows the character of it's years, that while it is in very good condition, this chest was used and loved obviously by it's owner as it is proud to show you. 13" T Enchanting Miniature Chinese Carved Chest
This dear and beautiful piece of furniture obviously has always been cherished. It is not unlike one we have in a long counter in our kitchen both to add a touch of grandness and to use its altar top for small objects we use in the kitchen. This one has been carefully restored and refinished some time long ago before we acquired it from an estate. Not only was the old finished carefully removed and restored. If you will notice on the front doors of the piece. A section of wood to the upper left of the left door and the upper right of the right door a piece has been carefully carved and replaced the upper pins on which the doors swing open and close, which evidently had worn out. It was certainly a skillful Chinese craftsman who did the repair. The piece consists of a drawer on the top of each side and two doors in the middle. When you open ... morethe doors there is what our children called a“hidey hole" at the bottom to the left and the right where you can hide small objects. The lacy fret work from the top down to the sides left and right as well as the lacy fret work beautifully carved across the bottom have been restored and are in perfect order. This is certainly a piece that should continue to be cherished and is of heirloom quality to be passed on in the family. Miniature American Classical(Late Federal) Mahogany Chest of Drawers New England c. 1810-20 Item# 130105RQY17 This is a very fine American Classical(Late Federal) Mahogany Chest of Drawers. A Salesman's Sample of Miniature dimensions c. 1810-20. It is crafted of solid mahogany(top, sides, drawer fronts, drawer secondaries, columns) mahogany veneers(stile facings on right and left of drawers and drawer blades) white pine secondaries(back, bottom, interior blocking) rosewood(knobs) and unidentified stringer inlays(appear to be holly or satinwood) The top is rectangular in form. Projecting over the front and sides with tight turrets at the corners over spiral-turned columns- these complex formations transition from a series of tight ring turnings into the spiral balusters over tiny urns and completed with a series of complex ring turnings ... moreover cork feet. The columns define the chest, greatly elevating the form with tasteful embellishment that does not distract from the overall composition. The graduated two over three drawers retain their original rosewood knobs, these flanking the inverted tear-drop escutcheons and framed as a whole in the rectangular stringer inlays. Dovetail construction dominates the chest. Through dovetails securing the sides of the case to the bottom and presumably to the interior framing upon which the top is set(unable to verify without removing the top) The back board is deeply chamfered to slide into rabbets in the sides and is secured with glued blocks inside the case and tacks along the lower edge. The drawers are likewise dovetailed front and back, the bottom board on four of the five with mitered edges to slide into rabbeted drawer sides: one of the tiny drawers varies in construction from the other four. The bottom board is chamfered along the edges, sliding into rabbets in the drawer sides. Counter to the two-and-one-fourth dovetail pins securing the fronts of the other drawers, this tiny drawer has just two dovetail pins without the lapped edge on the bottom. However

Adjustment to the latch will be necessary to make the chest lock. The lid requires slight pressure to completely close. It was purchased at the estate sale of the owner of the Ramsey-Hess Furniture Store in Martinsburg. WV. and was in the lot of miniature Lane Cedar Chests that I purchased there. It measures about 12 38" wide and 7 1/2" deep at the base. With the main section being 11 1/2" wide and 7" deep, and it is about 8 3/4" tall. Fully dovetailed drawers. I am not sure what the wood is- some kind of hardwood. Metal drawer handles with heavily oxidized finish. There is some wavyness to the finish on the left side, and the back piece is coming loose. This little cabinet is made of mahogany and dates from the early ... moreVictorian period. The cabinet is raised on four turned mahogany feet. The case contains four well constucted dovetailed drawers; two over two. The drawers all have old cream porcelain glazed circular knobs. The lower two drawers have faux ivory diamond shaped escutcheons. The lower with brass lock fitted. The middle drawer has no lock and the escutcheon is really for display and probably inlaid to give the front of the cabinet symmetry. The cabinet is finished with an overhanging mahogany top. Condition: The cabinet is in good used antique condition. The wood is wax polished. Has developed a good aged patina and has marks relating to age and use. The back RHS foot plinth has been replaced at some point as can be seen in the images of the back and underside of the cabinet. The RHS of the cabinet has an age related crack at the top corner. This does not compromise the function of the cabinet. The glaze on the porcelain knobs has crazed and they have some very minor age related surface marks. In good condition, does have dark spots on the bottom of the interior, can be sanded out. Has some alligatoring starting on lid's finish. Primitive Antique Blanket Chest Folk Art Wood Miniature Mini Trunk Fruit Crate
Awesome primitive folk art miniature wooden blanket chest. Made from an old fruit crate. All components of box show traces of having been gleaned from a fruit crate the box is in excellent shape, and measures 8" long by 3 3/4" wide and 3 1/4" tall. There are three tiny nail holes visible on top of box lid one in front center, and two on right side edge, which are remnants of when piece was a packing crate please see last photo. The front of box has a beautiful scallop design and still retains faint pencil layout lines. Original to the creation of the piece. Both sides of the mini blanket chest have footed arched features which join and compliment the scalloped arched front. The interior of box is where the origin of this unique piece is hidden, the wooden interior reveals the writing, advertising of the original fruit crate ... moreof which it was made. The bottom of lid is partially labeled"produce of USA united packing company" circled(27) The interior sides read"deluxe quality" and"pack" The top of lid is a beautiful bow type top it's thick and smooth from years of use. Antique German Hanau Solid Silver Novelty Chest of Drawers Shape Trinket by Friedrich Reusswig 1910 This Antique Novelty Shape Trinket Box measures approximately 1 7/8 inches or 48 mm across the length of its lower body from side to side by just under 1 1/2 inches or 37 mm across the width of its lid from the hinge to the front and it stands 1 1/2 inches or 39 mm tall to the top of its lid when closed. The box is made from solid silver that has been internally gilded or gold plated in the delightful novelty form of a 17th century European chest of drawers that stands on four scroll shaped legs and it has two false drawers in the front of its body. The entire outer body has been wonderfully embossed or raised relief and engrave decorated with scrolls, flowers, lattice, foliage, birds and cherubs at play and the box has a five section piano ... morehinged lid on the top of its body, the edges of the lid overhang the body for ease of opening and the box has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram. Although we have found no silver marks as such the box has been tested and it is guaranteed as being made from solid silver however the internal base of the body has been impressed with the German Hanau silversmith or makers marks of Friedrich Reusswig whose marks are recorded as being used from 1903- 1926 again as photographed below, I estimate that this novelty miniature chest of drawers shape trinket box was made circa 1910. The condition is used and near Mint for its age. The box has No Large Dents. No Splits, No Cracks, No Holes and No Repairs that I can find, the box or chest of drawers stand upright, the decoration and definition is very crisp, the lid opens with ease and closes tightly, the internal gilding is a really good colour with only minimal wear, the impressed makers marks are still legible although as the trinket box is a used antique it does have the obvious signs that it was hand made and it has one tiny dent in the rear left corner of the lid edge along with some extremely minor

It has a nice form and it dates to the 19th century- the turned knobs look like 1860s. But there are old wire nails so maybe 1880s. The drawers are nicely dovetailed. Note the interesting case with the bottom drawer; a lock installation was started but never finished, and I believe this was absolutely original to the piece when constructed. The piece measures 10 3/4 inches tall and 10 3/8 inches wide across the top. The dresser is in good antique condition. The old finish looks original. As shown in the pictures. American Empire Style Miniature Cedar Chest Document Box Inlaid Marquetry "F.M"
Offered is a nice. ANTIQUE, American Empire Style, Cedar Document Box. Found and probably made locally here in Berks County at the tail end of the Empire Design Period in the 1890's. The top and all side panels including the back have an inlaid framework of lighter wood(probably Birch or Maple) the top has the initials"FM" inlaid inside of a rectangle. Curved front Balusters and partially scrolled feet are key design elements of the period. The lid measures 7" x 13" the box measures 6 1/4" x 12" x 4" deep. Overall height is 6 3/8" The back edge of the lid has 2 old, glued repairs, there is remains of old paper on the inside of the lid and one hinge screw is replaced with a phillips head which I will correct before shipping. I do not have a key that fits and works, went through all of my small spare ... morekeys and didn't get a match. A very cool and unusual document box in decent condition with a nice aged, varnished cedar patina. GOOD LUCK!

I believe it is empire style. It measures 8 1/2" wide by 8 3/3" high by 4" deep. drawers are all dovetailed by hand and square head nails used for the other parts. There is grooves on the top drawers where I believe there was a mirror at one time which has been long lost. It is missing one pull and I don't know if they are original. One leg is missing in the back. the piece does have a piece off of the front edge of the top. I believe it is the original finish with wear from the years. There is no damage on the exterior and only a few small minor marks or scuffs feom use. The drawers are railed inside so that they will not fall out when opened. They actually will not come all the way out at all. Tabs where used at the end of the rails for this purpose. One drawer has a broken tab at the end of one rail, so it is possible to work that drawer all the way out, though it will not come out when it it's opened for normal use. This miniature cedar chest is marked on the inside of the lid: Lane. Presented by Du Mar Furniture, 6487 Brecksville Rd. This address is in Independence, Ohio) My understanding is that these were given as promotional gifts to girls upon graduation from high school. The approximate dimensions are 9" wide. 5" deep, and 3¼" high. Although it does have some scratches, the more noticeable one being on the back, this box is very nice looking both inside and outside. It has four felt pads on the bottom. The included key is not the original key. But the lock works well with this key. Insert the key and turn it counterclockwise to lock the box and clockwise to unlock the box. You can use this box for jewelry or keepsakes. The locking feature is great if you have children. It may have been used for dolls clothing. See pictures for present condition and missing parts. Missing: Lid. Drawer bottom and drawer back The overall condition is loose mortise joints. It still retains the bottom half of the original snipe hinges which are attached to the top back side. The drawer still retains the original knob. Old red and blue paint is in original condition. Miniature Antique Primitive Wood Blanket Chest Box with Key & Working Lock & Til
Antique Miniature Blanket Chest Old estate find. This is a nice, well made wood miniature blanket chest box. There is a raised panel on the top, and several layers of decorative moldings. Dark wood finish, I am not sure what the wood is, maybe walnut. Inside the chest has a little side til with a lid that flips up, and there is a lock and key. I am not sure if the lock is original to the piece. The lock does work and the key is included. Very nice antique condition, some wear to the finish as you would expect from years of use. This is a purple miniature locker from Limited Too. It measures approximately 24 inches tall by 9 inches wide and 9 inches deep. There are three shelves to place items inside. Along with three hooks and a picture frame on the door. The lock on the front is not a working combination lock. Instead. It was designed to open the locker when turned to“0” Otherwise, the door remains shut. The locker retailed for $54.50 at the Limited Too store when it was bought around ten years ago. It has been very gently used. The only significant scratch is on the left side of the locker and is about one inch long.
