Old and much-used condition. My favorite part of this tray is the front center. And especially the top edge. It is extremely smooth(almost soft) From being touched and pulled-on probably millions of time over decades of use. The drawer's dividers are secure and in good shape. With two exceptions- those two have horizontal cracks/breaks as you can see in the photos. But this should be an easy repair ... morejob(clean breaks) if this is objectionable. Other than that. Antique Hamilton( Printer Letterpress Type Set Wood Drawer Tray Shadowbox Antique printers tray/ type set drawer. With very old metal engraved handle with two letter"H" s(see photo) Hamilton? I don't know, I've had Hamilton printers trays, but I've never seen this logo. This may or may not be a Hamilton; I don't know what the two H's and the rest of the engraving on the metal handle indicate. Used in a print shop to store type set for printing. If is is in fact a Hamilton tray. That company was founded in 1880 by James Edward Hamilton of Two Rivers Wisconsin. If it's not Hamilton, I would guess that it is of the same era. Great for displaying many types of small. Interesting collectibles. Also can be used as a table top with clear glass covering the tray. Comes ready to hang with brass brackets on each side ... moreof upper back end of tray. Measures a large 32 1/4 inches in length by 16 1/5 inches in height by 1 1/2 inches deep. A GREAT old printers drawer tray! This piece has 86 compartments to hold all your typeset blocks or shadow box goodies. The tray is about 33" by 17" by 1 1/2" The drawer handle is made of metal and has a nice ornate design. This beautiful tray is in good used condition with great patina. Some signs of age and use there is one small divider missing at center top as seen in photos. A great piece to display your small collectibles. Ask any questions you have and thanks for viewing. Antique Letterpress Press Part, Ink Tray/Overflow, ?, Great Looking Piece
At auction is one antique piece from an old printing press. The shop is from the early 1900's but we can not date this item. It is iron and steel. Black paint and hardened black ink. We believe it is an ink tray or run off that hangs on the unit. Don't know for sure! The plastic or rubber skimmer is damaged and the pieces are coming off, brittle, can't guarantee how it will ship. This at the very top in picture# 1, far left. Otherwise, great shape, no rust. All the moving parts seem to work. Measures 13' long by 5" high by 7" deep. Great looking antique. Weighs over 6 lbs. Largest type 3 5/16" high. When I was organising this Old tray I thought that it would be interesting to show a range of Old Letterpress blocks. So the blocks include a number of Rare Hand Carved blocks& metal on wood blocks. This is an Old Cut Down Printers Tray. This is or was a section of an old print tray and 1/3 of a full size standard tray. Being the right hand side of a full tray. I have added a variety of wood type and old assorted blocks into the various compartments and these have been lightly cleaned. All the letters have been carefully cleaned. This is a vintage tray. Used by printers for storing metal fonts before printing changed to metal plates. It is 32" x 17" and has 89 compartments. Wood is all solid, no breaks or damage, some rusting on the handle. There are three hooks on the back for wall hanging use. There is a maker's mark on two of the vertical boards. This auction is for a Vintage Printer's Drawer Tray for block type set letter press printing. It measures 28" long and about 17" across and 1 3/4" wide. It has a metal handle that reads LUDLOW. It also has a label inside a plastic holder by handle that reads 18 Pt. Bodoni. The label is faded some and yellowed along with the plastic. Some of the wooden slats that separate the compartments have breaks in the wood. Some are broken off. The back of the drawer has some splitting of the wood from age and use. Looks like maybe it had gotten wet or stained at one time also. Couple screw holes drilled through where someone had hung it up on a wall. Some dings and marks in different spots on the whole piece but I think this just adds to the nice patina of the item. Looks like it may have had a tag on the inside frame of the drawer, ... morethere are two nail holes and it looks like a mark where a tag or label may have been.
