Another one of my estate sale Relics. The crate is farm fresh.And needs a detailed cleaning. The box is dirty,and the only thing i have done is wipe it down with a dry cloth. This piece needs some help,and is in poor condition. Maybe it can be saved,or taken appart and used as a wall piece. The fronts say Loose Wiles Biscuit Co,Bakers of sunshine busicuits. The side of the box says Hubbards wire sewed folding box pat june 28 1828 and patents pending,Made only by puffer Hubbard MFG Co minneapolis,Minn. USA 2-19. then in crayon it says W Girnac Marine City. I think the 2-19 is a date code for Feb 1919,and Marine city is in Michigan,and is also where i got the crate from. The flip down bottom is nearly gone. The lower portion of the crate which was sitting in the dirt floor barn is also in poor condition. The crate still folds flat,and is a ... moregreat Idea. I know that collectors really love the lids to these boxes,and you don't see the boxes hardly ever. This is actually the first i've come across in a very long time. Death of Dillinger Newspaper Article Prints in Two Antique Wood Crate
This is a pair of very interesting displays of old reprints of news articles about the death of the notorious John Dillinger who was gunned down on July 22. 1934 from the Chicago Daily Tribune and Chicago Daily News. They are old reprints that apparently had been put in very old wooden crates for display. I have no idea how old these actually are but the previous owned was an avid collector of memorabilia and could possible had created the display himself. The prints are attached with old thumbtacks and appear aged. They look like a standard newspaper size. These make very nice conversation pieces or a great addition to a collection of gangster bank robber memorabilia. I have tried to include several photos so you can see clearly what you are bidding on. Please contact me if you have any questions. Additional Comment- The newspapers are copies ... moreof the original that I assume were created for display purposes. It is hard to tell in the pictures. But the photo that shows the newspaper unfolded shows the other pages are reprints of other days and articles. They are not additional pages of the same newspaper. Graphics on the front and back are very crisp and legible.Patina on the box is great and there is even a knothole on one end of the box Don't know if it was built with the knothole. Or if the knot fell out from wood shrinkage and drying. Sometime in the boxes life wallpaper, or some patterned paper material has been added to the bottom outside of the box. Description For sale is a large sturdy military wood ammunition shipping box. Looks like was used to ship Howitzer projectiles or similar. The box has unique printing on several sides. It is marked"Loaded 9-75" Putting the box in the Vietnam era. The box weighs a little over 18 pounds. It measures 7.5" x 12" x 37" It has two carrying ropes. One at each end. It has a metal hasp and two metal hinges. The hasp is not lockable but you could put a zip tie through it. Take a good look at the photos. It would be classy to display something in it. This listing is for a wooden ammunition crate or box from the U. S. Army's Frankford Arsenal. It is stamped into the wood on the end 1-28-1901. Part of the black paint stenciling is shown in the first two photos. The words"revolver. Ball, and smokeless powder" are readable on three different lines. Photo number 7 shows the arsenal seal that is in a number of the holes. I believe this box held either 38 caliber, or 41 caliber ammunition for the Colt New Army revolver. The pistol is shown in Flayderman's as Models of 1892, 1894, 1895, 1896, 1901, and 1903. The barrels were marked with dates of 1884, 1888, 1895, and 1901. The box measures 16 1/2 inches without the handles; 18 1/2 with. It is 10 inches deep, and 7 inches high with the lid. There are six bolt holes through the lid, and three bolts are in place; no nuts or screws. ... moreThe galvanized liner is in the box, but no galvanized lid. These old crates were used to transport 24 glass RC COLA bottles from the bottling company to the point of retail sale and return back to the bottler. These were used when the bottles had a return value. You could return your bottle to the local retailer and retrieve a refund for the bottle deposit. The empty bottles would then be returned to the bottler to be washed and refilled. These old wood crates took a lot of abuse loading and unloading. Rare Vintage Wood Johnnie Walker Red Label Whisky Box Crate - Christmas Design
This is a great vintage Johnnie Walker Red Label Whisky crate from the 1930's. Produced to celebrate this wonderful spirit at Christmas time. The box once contained a single bottle of whisky. I have searched the Internet for other crates like this and only been able to find one which sold a short while ago. The crate is made from rough hewn wood and decorated both inside and out with red and green lettering and designs. The lid which no longer accompanies this box would have been nailed on- two of the original nails are still fixed in place. The crate has been used in the past for storage and has a couple of small ring marks inside but is otherwise in excellent condition and the colourful wording, decorative images- gift tag and holly leaves and berries- are still bright and clear. Primitive Antique Blanket Chest Folk Art Wood Miniature Mini Trunk Fruit Crate
Awesome primitive folk art miniature wooden blanket chest. Made from an old fruit crate. All components of box show traces of having been gleaned from a fruit crate the box is in excellent shape, and measures 8" long by 3 3/4" wide and 3 1/4" tall. There are three tiny nail holes visible on top of box lid one in front center, and two on right side edge, which are remnants of when piece was a packing crate please see last photo. The front of box has a beautiful scallop design and still retains faint pencil layout lines. Original to the creation of the piece. Both sides of the mini blanket chest have footed arched features which join and compliment the scalloped arched front. The interior of box is where the origin of this unique piece is hidden, the wooden interior reveals the writing, advertising of the original fruit crate ... moreof which it was made. The bottom of lid is partially labeled"produce of USA united packing company" circled(27) The interior sides read"deluxe quality" and"pack" The top of lid is a beautiful bow type top it's thick and smooth from years of use. The entire piece is securely put together with tiny nails. Beautiful wood grain piece. Box is hinged with old brass hinges see pictures for more detail. You'll Have a Blast! Explosives Crate Top Hercules Powder Co Completely safe being empty; this box top with 6 compartments housed at one time"500 ft white" explosives of some sort. Probably mining or tree clearing; innocuous. But it's a genuine explosives box top. Have fun with your friends! Photo 1 shows the box in full. While Photo 2 is a close-up for reading about the contents. Photo 3 is of the 6 compartments; assuming the bottom had them as well. But this is only the top half. Photo 4 shows the hand scribbled words, 500 ft white" white what? Fuse? Plastique? I don't know; but its on the other long side as well. And Photos 5& 6 are the short ends of the box.
