DESCRIPTION: Gorgeous antique(made before 1900) wooden box with the tiny and delicate inlaid wood veener decoration that most collectors refer to as Tunbridge Ware. I do guarantee that is is real Tunbridge Ware inlaid wood veneer decoration and not a printed design; on examination through a loupe the individual pieces of wood can be clearly seen with their grains going in various different directions. No country of origin marks on my careful examination. But probably English, possibly Continental European or even American. Comes from a local Dallas estate. American Federal Period Walnut Chest of Drawers Four graduated drawers flanked by chamfered columns over splayed French feet Pennsylvania. C. 1800-15 Item# 130101PHP13 While the Hepplewhite form employing splayed french feet in case pieces is well developed. Even common, this chest exudes a certain strength that is uncommon in Federal period works of the Hepplewhite style. The solid walnut and solid poplar construction gives it inordinate weight, but the intense lift of the feet, raising the apron sharply in the corners, eliminates the heaviness of the look. The projecting top is crafted of two boards, the last 3/4" along the front actually a continuation of the front of the chest up through the top, a somewhat unusual and perhaps unique construction method. Surrounding this is a dropped and applied molding over four graduated drawers. ... moreThese with molded lips of the solid, each framed with hand dovetailed poplar boards with a deeply chamfered poplar bottom sliding into rabbets in the frame and tacked at the back with square nails. The dovetailing method is somewhat original, using very large dovetails at the front, smaller dovetails at the back, the lowest back dovetail squared on it's lower edge to receive the drawer bottom in the rabbet cut. Flanking these drawers are chamfered columns on either side. Both sides of the case are single solid planks of walnut. Incredibly large boards with wonderful grain appearance. Five vertical poplar boards line the back of the case, these entirely undisturbed and nailed in neat rows, the boards on the far left and right sides continuing all the way to the ground. As a result of this construction method, the feet are in simply outstanding stable condition, despite the incredible weight being supported. The feet are entirely original, the interior blocking of each a complex and almost puzzle-like formation. Dispenser Box The person I bought this from told me they bought it at an estate auction a long time ago and the auctioneer thought that it was a toothpick/match dispenser. I'm not sure if this is correct because the only way I can see how to load the box is through the slot in the top. I have never put anything into it because I was afraid of not being able to get it out. It measures 5" long. 2 5/8" wide, and a little over 4" tall. When you lift it up, there is a wooden insert that slides out from the bottom. It slides out about 3" but does not come all the way out. I wish I knew the real purpose of this box or how it's supposed to work. It is in excellent condition with just some minor spots of wear on the finish. The size of this piece is 32 1/2 by 32 1/2 square. ... moreThe ebony painted edge of this is about 1 inch thick so I am guessing the woodwork itself is 3/4 of an inch. This weighs 11 pounds. I am assuming it was made to place on a felt top surface or dining table top after a meal to have relaxing family games. Condition: The table edging itself seems to have scuffing only to the paint on the edge. Which could easily be repainted. The Checkerboard side has some veneer cracks to to aging, but seems in remarkable condition. The intricately inlaid side has veneer cracking and crazing with what appears to be patina over the burl areas. This side needs to be handled with care as it is in delicate condition. You might find the patina on the burl adds to the beauty of this piece. This ships from a sanitary and smoke free environment. This item requires careful packaging to ship this to you unharmed and in the condition that it was before packaging. English Georgian Hepplewhite Serpentine Mahogany Sideboard Late 18th Century. Possible alterations, replaced brasses Item# 130002UWP16 This is a wonderful selection for the decorator and interior designer. As well as anyone looking for a piece with a well developed patina for a formal dining room. Crafted during the late 18th Century, this English Georgian Hepplewhite Serpentine Sideboard is a visual delight- though not suitable for serious collectors, due to it's light alterations and numerous replacements, it has been carefully preserved and restored over the years and is fully functional. The overall form is sweeping, the top conforming to the overall serpentine shape of the case; the middle section has sliding panel doors revealing a large and spacious storage space. The legs were designed to reduce the mass of the overall case, note ... morethe odd parallelogram shape to the legs that allow the leg to appear thin and sharp when looking straight on at the case. A sturdy and well crafted piece. This is a treasure you will certainly enjoy in your home for a lifetime. Due to the noted replacements, it is offered at a very good value. Antique Wooden Decorative Bowl Handpainted and Inlaid with Abalone - RARE!
A Rare Find From Yesteryear! We are giving up an absolutely beautiful. Very old decorative bowl. We purchased this from an antique store in Rochester. Michigan about 12 years ago and have enjoyed displaying it. Now it's time to let someone else marvel at its beauty. Along the outer rim. It has a very delicate, hand painted gold scrolling on a scalloped edge, along with bits of inlaid abalone. The next row has painted blue and white flowers with green vines and leaves. The third row has cream-colored painted curlicues intertwined with many inlaid abalone chips. And the bottom center has a lovely bouquet of flowers that have been beautifully hand painted, mixed with inlaid abalone petals. The paint is crazed throughout due to its age. The handle is some kind of cast metal material. Perhaps pig iron. It is in a ivy leaf pattern and looks ... morelike it was painted or stained. As for the condition. It's in great shape for its age, which we believe to be approximately 120-150 yrs. Unfortunately. We do not know who the artist is. We are also not sure of the material. It is some kind of wood composite. There are 2 chips on the underside which show up clearly in the photos. And one ding on the top rim from the handle falling down upon it, but is not noticeable. We do not claim to be experts. However, my husband and I have been in many Antique stores throughout the States and have never come across another item like this. We feel that it is quite rare. This is a beautiful French and burl walnut paint decorated full-size bed that dates from the 1920s. What a great bed. With a tremendous ... morecurved headboard, almost like a wing-back chair, with carved rosettes, flowers and leaves. The inlaid section has leaves and flowers against the burl walnut. The bottom has some wear marks, but those will be hidden when the box spring and mattress are in place. The molded frame is painted a distressed antique mustard, which you can see in the photos. The overall size on the inside is 55 inches wide, and the curved headboard makes it 90 inches long which leave a space on the head board to fill up with additional pillows, but it will take a regular modern-day full-size mattress and box spring. We can also make this into a queen size bed, measuring 60 x 80, for an additional 350.00. Outside dimensions are 57 inches wide, the footboard is 25 inches high, and the headboard is 55 inches high. The bed itself is gorgeous, with all the burl panels and carvings. On the footboard, we had to replace a bit of the molding, and there is a little hand-painted picture of a flute player, sitting on a rock. This is a turn-of-the-last-century JAPANESE ART BRONZE URN from MEIJI Restoration Period approx. 1890- 1912. It may have been produced around 1950-not sure. This lovely Vase is a finely cast and turned bronze jar with fluted opening. It is covered in gold enamel. The side is meticulously hand-engraved with a scene depicting a standing Samurai, a geisha playing a stringed instrument, an elder and a seated happy Buddha. Each beautifully engraved figure is enhanced with silver, gilding, copper and black oxidation for a lovely effect. The urn is ETCHED/SIGNED WITH THE ARTIST'S KENJI's 2-character maker's mark signature. It is in Fine condition with no dents or cracks, light overall wear, some tiny nicks on the upper rim. This is an absolutely beautiful wooden hand mirror dating from the Art Nouveau period around the beginning of the 1900's. The mirror is all hand-made with lovely inlay of a spray of lily of the valley flowers tied with a bow.Originally this would have been quite brightly coloured and there is a hint of the original green left in the leaves.Now it has a soft muted hue that is very pretty.The person who made this mirror was obviously so delighted with the results they signed it in inlaid initials on the handle-L K.The design of flowers fits the shape of the mirror frame perfectly and its long handle is very much of the period.It is in very good condition for its age with no loss of inlay,just some surface scratching commensurate with age.The mirror has some surface scratching and a small chip at one edge along with the start of some damage ... moreto the silvered surface of the mirror,none of which detracts from the appeal of the piece.It measures 38.5 cms long and 12.5 cms wide.
