Joseon dynasty, late 14 th to early 15 th century Of a globular shaped body applied with a pale celadon glaze overall and black and whie slip inlaid design consists of two lotus plant medallions encircling the body and plantain trees on the back ground filled with a stamped Chrysanthemum design. And lotus petals inlaid bands on the shoulder and bottom, the base glazed but washed out. set on a raised foot and recessed ring foot, It’s in fine condition without any artificial damages at all but it has some celadon glaze oxidized and firing defects. I don't know what kind of woods were used in this piece but some are on the red dish side. The woodThere is a 1/4" wide ormolu panel surrounding all the inlaid wood panels AND around the drawer and the door in the middle! There are the LARGE ormolu medallion panels and on the drawer are the 2 drawer pulls as well. There are 4 large ormolu that go down all the legs to the toe of the feet. ORNATE o rmolu ... moreescutcheon(key included) too. The inlaid wood or marquetry is absolutely BEAUTIFUL with baskets of flowers. Leaves and SCROLLS everywhere! The front door is curved or SERPENTINE and you can see the curve especially when you look at it from a side or look inside! The interior is very roomy! Drawer area although narrow is nice too. The cabinet measures 32" tall. 33 1/4" wide and 16 1/4" deep. Condition is good for an old cabinet such as this is. There are a few issues and one is a professional repair inside UNDER the drawer and it can only slightly be seen at all when drawer is in place. You would have to really look for it. Please see last photo for it. There are a few small chips to the wood(please see 2nd and 3rd to last two photos for them) and a few small areas where the wood is slightly separated but not bad. I am selling off several violins that have been in my collection for years. I recently bought a violi that cost me a small fortune but I love it and over half of my small collection will have to go. The violins That I am selling I saved back out of hundreds because I felt they were exceptional. This one is fullsize and has a paper label inside that it is made by MAT. HARDIE& SON. EDINBURGH 1821. The violin has double purfling front and back with no cracks that I can find anywhere. The top plate is finely grained and the two-piece back is nicely flamed with a beautiful castle scene that is made of very thin pieces of wood that are inlaid into the lower back. It has one of the deepest carved scrolls that I have seen. Ribs.Pegbox, and neckjoint all look good. The ebony fingerboard is in good shape and the violin sounds good and plays just ... morefine. It does need new strings. This violin comes with the nice case in the photos and is being sold as is with no refunds or returns so please ask questions before bidding. I feel very strongly that they are made of bronze for several reasons(some of which I pointed out in photos) There exists a strong amount of"copper content" as well as tin. Zinc or solder( and some areas where it appears the statues possessed a gold toning at one time of which has been clean(rubbed away) oh such a shame) None-the-less; they remain STUNNING pieces of art! The two statues appear to be made of brass yet there seems to be evidence of copper and tin(or white oxidation or solder) in the tails and where the fins are joined. The two statues are entirely handcrafted with each individual mother-of-pearl inlay crafted with perfection. The artisanship of these items are beyond description. There seems ... moreto be evidence that they had a noteworthy bronze patina and possible gold overlay. The glass is in good condition.no chips. No cracks, no hairlines etc. The mirror needs to be cleaned. I have limited space, and that's why I'm selling it. There is a small water damage on one corner at the top right but when it's hanging the wall- no one can't tell. One corner of the mirror the same top right- a portion of wood approximately 1/2" x 1/2" wood came off. My mom.
