SMALL HORSE HEAD IN HORSESHOE IN CIRLCED FRAME Horse Harness Brass from England
Horse brasses were used to adorn the harness horses. Primarily in the UK, many would identify the route, simply for decoration, royalty, different industries such as train or brewery and some, I am sure, were just made out of fondness for a likeness or animal. Some older brasses were worn on harness, others were just made primarily to commemorate a certain event. It is hard to date many of the harness brasses, yet you can get an idea from the patina as well as how well the brass is cast. You can sometimes tell from the darkness on the reverse, from the brass slapping against the leather of the harness, but some people clean their brasses often, so this is not always a tell tale sign. Stamped brasses are from the early 1900's and only up to the 1930's. Most brasses you come across were cast and often the getts(the holder for the casting) ... moreis left partly on the back of the brass. I find horse brasses lovely and intriguing. This is a gorgeous well balanced spade bit stamped Oeste Salvage-I am not familiar with the maker but it has beautiful sterling silver inlay work-even silver stripes on the edges(see photo)it has been stored away and it looks to be a vintage bit to me-it is 8-1/4 in. long-5-1/4 in. wide mouth-3-3/8 in. high engraved copper port(when measured from top of mouth piece) and even a roller on the top part of the spade-it is 5-1/4 in.wide and concho on side is 1-5/8 in. wide-this will make a great collectible or using bit if you have a special bridle horse-thanks for looking.

This is a pre-owned VINTAGE 1970's belt buckle measuring 4" x 3" There is a plastic hand painted emblem of a horse/equestrian inset on the front center measuring 1 1/2" x 1" I could not find any markings anywhere to identify its maker or manufacturer. This item does show a bit of wear and is not in perfect used condition so please look over all pictures carefully. Some of the paint on the emblem has worn or scratched away. Some of the silver finish has worn off the edges, and there are a few tarnished areas. The imperfections actually give this belt buckle a lot of character and a true vintage feel. The detail is engraved and the workmanship of this item is amazing. This would be a great piece for anyone whom collects belt buckles or western horse like items! The diameter of the short balls is 2” The diameter of the longer hames balls is 1 ¾” and 2 1/8” The largest ball has been broken off right where the screw hole is drilled. Three of the short balls have dents in the top. I have posted close-up pictures of their condition. There is no maker mark on these vintage hames balls. The package weight will be 3 pounds.
