Wide handle with original'natural' heat insulators. Applied deeply carved foliage at joins of handle, echoed by moulded leaves forming thumbpiece. Octogonal panelled finial on lid also hints at Persian or Turkish influence. Finial can be removed for ease of cleaning. Beautifully shaped. Generous spout with tulip base. Empty cartouches under spout allow for monogram or dedication. The shield shaped reserve directly under the spout echoes the tulip shaped bottom of the spout. A curved banner on the base. Excellent quality and superb workmanship by top English silversmith. Engraved in block letters under the handle: D.C. RAIT. FECIT. Fully hallmarked in a number of places: Next to handle RH lion. Leopard head, date letter O and queen's head. On handle: RH. Monarch and lion. Inside lid: RH. Lion, date letter. Condition is generally very good. THe bottom of the base is bent in front- can easilly be straightened out. The inside of the lid has a small dent. This is a Vintage Heavy Aluminum Hat Mold. The top separates and within is a heating element. When plugged in this works just fine. The element heats up and when you place the lid part back on then the top of the metal form gets hot.This was originally used to make hats by heating up the mold after placing the hat material to be molded on to it. This is in great condition for its age. You can also simply screw out the heating element and screw in a regular light bulb. What a neat retro Aluminum Light Fixture. HISTORY Millinery Blocks are the industrial“molds” used to produce hats. Historically produced from wood. Later blocks were composed of metal or ceramic. The early wood molds typically date to the early part of the 20th century and are an interesting piece of industrial history. DESCRIPTION This is a fine millinery block with a rich. Warm patina that has developed over decades of time. The block is made of one or more woods assembled together in order to create the desired form. The completed form is mounted onto a wooden frame painted matte black and marked with information the hat maker used to identify the model. The block measures about 7.25” X 9” and stands about 9” tall from where it is mounted onto the base to the top of the form. I had ordered this a few years ago from Poland but never got a chance to use it. It is brand new and in beautiful shape! On the bottom it says 364 =754=. It is 22 inches around head size. Wood millinery hat block reverse / plunge brim off the face or scoop
This is a reverse or plunge style brim where the crown is pushed into the center to create the form. A crown can also be blocked separately and stitched to the brim if it does not fit inside the brim's center neatly. From the lack of tack holes inside this brim normally a crown was pushed through. This brim can be used as an upturned front or it can be reversed and the upturn can be in the back with a curved profile outlining the face in the front. The outside circumference of the brim is 36" and the inside head size measures 22" The diameter of the inside is 7 1/2" front to back and 6 1/2" side to side. But the inside slopes in so you would need to use a round crown rather than a square one if you were pushing one in. The upturned part of the brims measures 2 1/2" while the opposite side is 3" There was ... morea chip on the edge of the brim that has been repaired with wood epoxy, and there is a corresponding crack on the upturned section. The crack appears stable and if used carefully the this brim should give years more service. The block has been recently lacquered to prevent sticking and staining.

Wood millinery hat block round crown / pillbox / helmet / fascinator
This is basic round crown made from poplar. It can be used in a variety of ways. It is carved so that it is higher in the back than in the front like a helmet. The crown can be block on its own and gives a pillbox with a flapper silhouette. It can also be paired with a brim and after roping and blocking if you cut on the curved rope line you obtain and under sized lifter on the brim. Then the brim can be placed on top of the crown and you create a Watteau silhouette. The Crown measures 23" on the curved section at the bottom and the base measures 21 1/2" It stands 5 1/2" tall and in the front from the rope line to the tip it measures3 1/2" While the back is 4 1/2" tall. It is in pretty good condition with a few fine cracks that will not show on the finished hat. There is some bluish green discoloration on the tip ... morefrom repeated blocking with blue bodies, but this has been lacquered recently so there should be no sticking or staining.

1930s-40s Printer Block, Man in Fedora, Woman w/ Hat in Convertible Estate Find
Vintage 1930s-40s printer's block or printing block of a well dressed couple. Him in a nice fedora, her in a hat, riding in a convertible car, the car is in a more comic style and has a smile face on the front bumper, the headlights are eyes, interesting block, not sure if it is supposed to be advertising something, it is metal on wood block, it measures 3 inches long, 2 1/4 inches tall and approx 1 inch thick, I took the liberty of applying ink to see how it prints and as shown, from the store stock estate of an antique dealer, it is great, if you collect these kind of printing blocks, you might like this one, ONLY ONE available, bid now Please email with any questions, thanks for looking at my auction. ★antique victorian 2pc WOOD FASHION HAT FORM MOLD w/WIDE BRIM millinery BLOCK. Interesting early handmade hat molds. Two pieces could made 2 different hats(one would be brimless) But together they look like either a fancy woman's hat or cowboy hat. If you push the piece up from the bottom, you get a narrow height ladies' hat. If you place this on top, it's a fancier high hat. Though the center piece only sits on top but does push up from center. Or you could use the center piece on it's own. Wide curved brim measures almost 2.5" across from center piece to edge. The brim is pained black on the curved top and sides. And natural wood color on the bottom. There is a brass metal trim running under the edge of this piece. It's nice that there are holes on the center piece so you could put this on a pole and/or stand if ... moreyou want too. Looks very old. And the wood has antique wear as shown. We'll leave the cleaning for you. The height of the center section measure approx 5" Inside is marked 5 3/4. 7, 3/8" Beautiful original primitive piece.
