Antique Wood Columbia Hat Block Form Millinery Mold Here is a nice old wood hat mold. Millinery form. The size is not legible on the bottom and the manufacturer is Columbia. The piece measures 5-1/2" high and I measure 21-1/2" circumference at the base. It has an oval shape with a front to rear diameter of 7-3/8" and side to side 6" It is a heavy hardwood. Weighing just over two pounds. This one has indications of many years of use. Age has taken some toll on the wood, that can be seen if you look at the photos closely. Great old hat block or forms. 2(3 actually) piece heavy wooden molds. There is a crown mold and a brim. Crown is a blonde wood made of 5 pieces glued together. It measures aprox. 7-1/2" x 6-1/4" x 5-1/2" tall and 22-1/2" around. There are 3 holes on bottom for putting on a stand or press. Marked 7(size) and 4-1/4 JMD. M.A. Cuming New York. They were a Bleeker Street hat maker established in 1873. Last picture is an ad from a 1921 magazine. The brim is a darker wood. It is marked 777 7-1/4(size) and 2. There is a ridge around the bottom and an indent on inside(probably for easy graspiong) It originally was a 12" x 10-3/4" oval with round disks nailed in the base and a hole in center to afix on press. It came apart at the weak spot(center of holes) probably from too much pressure being asseted by press. It can ... morebe glued and would function as good as new. Or make an awesome display. Marked FF 5012 carved into the wood base. This weighs about 5 ½ pounds, stands about 9” tall and, although the base is oval shaped, the top is basically round with an 8” diameter. As shown. What I believe is the rear portion(with the cowl which probably covered back of the neck) slides off the front. The base of the side is marked with what is probably yellow paint with what may be GF.or something similar. Wood millinery pillbox hat puzzle block
This classic flat top pillbox shape was popularized by Jackie Kennedy in the 1960. It is created in 5 pieces so that the hat can be removed without deformation after blocking. It has a 23" head size and including the base is 7" tall. The finished hat would only be about 4" high. At the top of the sidewall the circumference is 26" There are a couple of fine cracks and dings that are normal for a block of this age. And should not affect the finished product. The block has been recently lacquered and the bits of newspaper on the inside faces are from that process.

The 1st block is approx 2 1/2" long and is painted Off White with a primitive black witch hat and star painted on it. The 2nd block is approx 5" long and is painted Orange with the words"Come On In" written on it. Hello and thanks for looking at our auctions this week.offered this evening is an antique hat stretcher- size 6 3/4. This piece was manufactured during the early part of the 20th century and is made of wood with a metal adjusting handle in the center. This piece measures approximately 6 3/4" across at the bottom when closed and 8 1/4" across when the metal adjusting handle is extended all the way out. Size"6 3/4" is stamped into the wood on the bottom side. The piece has no other markings. Obviously. With this piece being approximately 100 years old there will be some wear to to wood. There are no cracks or breaks and the handle turns as it should. During the length of this listing the brace may be seen at galaxie 13 which is located at 436 Main Street. Beacon NY 12508.
