The number 2030 handwritten on the base. And there's a maker's mark on the top in white lettering, but it has worn off& I can't make out the words. I'm 98% the first word is 5 maybe 6 letters long, starts with an'R' and ends with an'OM' The other two words are unreadable. The block is constructed with 2 sliding interlocking pieces, secured with screws on each side. Some of the screws have been removed so the 2'halves' slide apart along a metal fastening bar. Hat portion of the block measures 7 1/2 tall x 7" long x 6" wide(tough to measure on the curve) Base measures 7" long x 6" wide x 3" tall(front) 2 1/4" tall(back) with 3 holes for stand on bottom. I have no idea how old it is but it's definitely vintage. I purchased a lot of 3 vintage hat blocks from the estate of a woman who was a skilled dress& hat maker. She moved to Florida 30+ yrs ago from New York. Wood has a GREAT coloration& block is in Really Nice Condition for a working piece of this vintage! I have used aluminum foil to fill in the spots then covered the block with foil before using. It also has a great patina. Perfect for the at-home or professional milliner. This is a very rare wooden hat block with a crease or top center seam? like on a hard hat or helmet. Signed. But I cannot make out the name, possibly Grand. This was used to make the classic bowler, derby and possibly cloche hats. Fantastic find in great solid condition with a few age cracks and a white strip that looks like paint, the size is marked 7 with# 950 and 4 1/4 on the edge. 4 1/4" is the side height of the block. vintage antique millinery hat block form wood mold set lot 2 womans 50-60s balsa
For your consideration: This is a set of 2 wooden hat making blocks. I can not find a manufacturer name on it. These are both single piece molds. The flatter one is a styled pill box and the taller is sort of a squat fez shape. It is slightly smaller at the top of the crown. Both are marked size 22 1/2. I am pretty sure that these are balsa wood as they are light weight and easy to put a pin into. These seem to be custom hat making molds and are probably from the 1950s or 60s. They are in excellent condition with only the wear and tear from real use.

This is a set of vintage. Wooden pieces for hat making forms. Weighing in at 10 pounds total. There is a very solid base, a front& a back, 2 sides pieces, and a top piece that may or may not go with the bottom 5 pieces. This form is 11 3/4" tall total, when together, measures about 21" around the bottom of the TOP of the hat form. The top layer swivels, as it has a wooden pin inserted, which also comes out. This"pin" is about 2" long and about 1/2" diameter. Photo 12 clearly show the entire hat mold/form put together. On the bottom of the form, is"NYHB Co. and many numbers: 4414, 22, 445. It appears that this makes a hat for a 22" head size. Telescope form? I honestly don't know what this means, even though I've tried to research this on-line& have looked at many other listings. This antique wooden milliners hat block i think dates to around 1900. It has loads of patina with age as can be seen in the photos and has a nice shape with a ridge running down the centre which is quite unusual, the hat block measures 7.5 x 6 inches, there are some old shrinkage cracks in places but in solid condition just minor wear and tear and grubby with age

The stretcher stands 14" high(36cms) and carries it's original sizing guide. Which enables the block to fit and measure hats of a large size range. I bought this antique wooden hat block and brim mold for making hats- and never used either! I have included the wooden hat block(size 22.5) and the brim mold(7 1/8) as part of one sale. The 22.5" wooden hat block is 6" tall and has the telltale stains from allowing shaped hats to dry on the block. It is made of straight-grained hemlock and has traditional. Radial cracks but isn't prone to splitting. It would be great for wire and tying hat making, not for pinning. The brim piece is made from darker wood and would work well for hat-making hobbyist as well as for interior design.

The center piece slips out first so the mold can be disassembled to be removed from the finished hat. There are 5 pieces. This block has sort of a beak on the back side. Wood millinery hat block segmented safari
This is an interesting silhouette. But the block does have some issues. The basic shape is a safari style with thin strips of wood to segment the crown and brim into equal parts. The crown has a 23" headsize and is about 5" high. The brim has a circumference of 42" and measures 4" from the head size to the edge. This block has been well use and several things have happened to it over time. When the lacquer built up too heavily for the segments to show clearly, an attempt was made to remove the lacquer build up. The old fashioned way was to put a torch to the block and the film would burn off. Please don't attempt this at home. However in this case the strips were so fine they started to burn off too. So the brim was never finished in having all the lacquer removed and no attempt was made on the crown. The result was ... morea charred area on the brim and some missing parts on the fine strips. The burnt area has been sanded and both the crown and brim relacquered. This is why the block has a mottled color. I have not block it since and I don't know how well the details will show up, but it is a cool looking block, even if it is not used for hat making again. But it is worth a shot because in the past the finished hat was very nice.

Wood millinery hat block tapered flat crown and shepherdess brim
This set consists of a tapered flat tip crown and a sloped shepherdess brim. The crown has a convex bottom while the brim has a concave area for the crown. These were not originally a pair and the crown does not fit snuggly on the brim. But they do work together even though there is a slight gap on the sides. Because of this they would be difficult to pair with other blocks that have a flat surface. However, you could block either the crown or brim seperately and stitch them together with other shapes and make a two piece hat, or use the crown in a reverse brim. The crown has a head size of 22" and is 3 1/2" tall. The circumference at the tip is only 19" This is a picture frame or shepherdess style and has a brim that is much larger in the front then the back. The circumference of the brim is 44" and it is 5" in the ... morefront and 2 1/4" in the back. Both pieces are well used and have fine cracks and tiny mars, but these should not show on a finished product. There is a small amount of red staining on the brim, probably from multiple blockings of a red body. I have lacquered over both the crown and brim but to make sure that there is no staining I would test the brim first or use a plastic bag over it. One peg has been lacquered into the brim and I could not remove it. I am also including a second peg to assure the crown is stable on the brim.

This is a two piece block with a round crown and a plantation style bumper brim. The crown has a head size of 22 1/4" and is about 5" tall. The base of the crown measures 7 1/2" front to back and 6" side to side. It was originally 1/2" shorter but a lifter was glued to the base a long time ago to raise the height. There are fine cracks on the surface but they should not show on the finished body. The bumper brim is on a stand that permits a crown to be pressed into the center to a depth of 5 1/2" Of course you can shorten the depth. By pushing a crown down as deep as you wish. The interior circumference of the block is 23 1/2" and the outside is 40 1/2" The bumper is one inch wide but like the crown it was originally shorter. A rope line on the edge was filled in to get the deeper bumper. In spots the ... morewood putty or filler has fallen out and the original rope line indentation shows. On a fine straw body this gap may show up after blocking. From the head size to the edge the brim extends 2 3/4" The opening in the brim measures 8" front to back and 7" side to side. The crown and brim are not a pair, and the crown fits loosely inside. This is nice for thick felt and velour bodies but you may not get a crisp edge on a straw one. The brim has been well used and there is a small ding on the surface, and several fine cracks. The ding may show but I had no problem steaming it out. The brim has also been blocked seperately from various crowns as seen by the multiple tack hole on the interior. This bumper silhouette is often paired with a square telescope crown to get a plantation shape. Both blocks have been recently lacquered to prevent sticking and staining.

Antique Millinery Wood Hat Block molds- two piece mold for a Derby type hat. The numbers 6 followed by a space 7 followed by another space 1105 are incised on the bottom of the head part. The rim has no numbers. It measures 14" x 12 1/2" x 2" The head part measures 5 3/4" tall x 7 1/4" x 6 1/4" It appears to be in excellent condition. I purchased many hat blocks and accessories from an Estate. They had a hat shop many many years ago. I do not know the exact age of the blocks. But I believe many were from the 40's and older, from the information that came with this collection. The hat block is marked with the number 3286 or B286, I think this is the pattern number. The hatblock measures approximately 7-3/4" x 6" on the flat bottom and 2" high. The circumference is approximately 22-1/8" around. The hat block has two dowel pins. There are various holes that were used to turn the mold freely when creating the hat.
