Very Unique oblong shaped Mexican batea wood dough bowl for sale! This batea has been in my personal collection for many years. It is a very unique oblong shape measuring approximately 16 1/2 inches long by 11 inches wide. It is just under 4 inches deep. This batea is in very good vintage condition. It does have a few paint chips on the red flowers(see photos) It also has a couple tiny nail holes and a small crack that doesn't go all the way through. This auction is for an Original Vintage AAFA Antique Wood Dough Bowl measuring 14 1/2" across in one direction and 14" across in the other direction and stands 3 1/2" on one side and 4" on the other. The lip is 1 1/4" wide. As you can see in the photos, there are several cracks and a repair on the outside rim. I do not know the age, there is a lot of original use marks and cracks in the wood. This one is the real deal not one that was"made to look old" I have not touched this bowl. It has not been cleaned or oiled, I will let the new owner do that. ACOMA DEEP DOUGH BOWL CIRCA MID 1920s-1930s
Offered is a wonderful Acoma dough bowl from the mid 1920s-1930s. The piece measures 9 1/16" tall by 7 3/8" wide and has seen use. But is in fabulous shape save for one area of old native repair.Because of the unusual depth of the piece, we believe it to be a dough bowl rather than a serving bowl, but, it could also have been planned for use as a flower pot and the drain hole never drilled.That said, it was used and has developed a great patina from that use. It is thin walled and decorated in classic Acoma geometric designs and the colors are still vibrant and clear. There are double framing lines with the expected remnants of red banding beneath them as is expected on material of this date and it is, of course, unsigned.
