This is a superb 19thc Black Forest oak carved wall barometer. A very beautiful and finely carved Black Forest oak casing- vine leaves and grapes- to this barometer. The barometer is sold as seen- working condition unknown- and the thermometer is missing. The oak carved casing is in very good condition overall with part of a leaf/stem missing to one side of thermometer area. One or two other very minor nibbles to the wood(edges of leaves. Rare form carved quartered oak barrister bookcase with desk leaded glass-14489
This is a great carved quartered oak barrister bookcase. Sometimes called a lawyers bookcase or stacking bookcase. This outstanding stacking desk bookcase is one of the nicest we have ever seen. It has leaded glass windows in the top two sections below the molded top. The carved fall board has a key that opens or locks the desk section. Inside are two strong desk lid supports and a nice set of pigeon holes with a single pencil drawer-fitted interior. The desk section sits above two full width drawers. The top drawer is shaped to fit the curve. The second drawer is carved to accent the fall board. Both drawers have original brass handles. The lowest section is an extra tall one with a"blind" door or wood paneled door to prevent breakage from feet. The entire piece sits on a molded base section. Quartersawn oak is showcased through ... morethe entire piece which is in excellent condition. I believe this case was made by the Viking Company. Overall dimensions are 34 wide, 15 deep, and 69 high. Although we have sold hundreds of interesting barrister bookcases over the years, we have never seen this model before. This sweet cabinet stands 68 inches tall and measures 29 inches wide across the front. The distance from the front center of the cabinet straight back to the corner is 28 inches, with each of the side walls measuring 19 inches back to the corner. The top section of the cabinet is 38 inches tall with the base and two additional removable shelves which when in place offer about 11 inches of clearance above each and closer to 14 inches above the top shelf. It is 33 inches tall to the back of the chair. The seat of the chair is 17 inches from the ground. The back of the chair is 14 inches wide at it's widest point. The seat itself is 17 inches wide in the front and 13 inches wide in the back. The chair is quite old and as such has some condition issues. It has 2 splits on the back that I have tried to take pictures of. One can't be seen at all from the front of the chair. Most of the carvings of the Dutch folk appear in pairs( a man and woman) The columns that hold the top shelf up, the center carvings, and the door carvings are all a man in one carving and a woman in the other leading us to believe this could have originally been commissioned as a wedding present. There is part of a sticker left on the back which we have included a picture of. Besides minor wear and a small age separation in the top shelf, this buffet is in excellent condition and very sturdy. Victorian-age carved bench with barley twist posts, barley twist supports, carved cupids on all three ... moresections of the back and carved cupids on the front stretchers. Leaf carving is everywhere on this piece, including the seat, sides and top. It has a triple cane back that is in very good, usable condition, and the seat has been replaced and there is a red crushed velour, leather-style suede fabric that looks great against the dark original finish of the bench. This bench probably dates from the 1880s, and is of European origin. It’s in fantastic condition, with no breaks, all tight and sturdy. In person it’s amazing, with the cupids and other carvings that are pierce carved along the back, including flowers, leaves and pineapple finials. The overall size is 59 inches wide, 24 inches deep, 48 inches to the top of the post, 29 inches high to the arm, and 19 inches high to the seat. In its original finish, it’s incredible that it hasn’t been damaged or broken along the way, as fragile and delicate as it is. You’d really have to look around for quite a while to find a bench to rival this settee. Antique small oak tavern table. Beautiful dark finish and aged appearance. Arcade carving around the table skirt and turned legs in the vase-ring-and-bulb design. Carving looks hand done. Overhanging. Molded-edge top lifts on steel H hinges and reveals a storage space in place of the typical drawer. Legs are slightly splayed and connected by stretchers with a slight vertical curve. Unsure of the table's exact age, but based on the carving, splayed legs and hinges I would guess it dates from the late 1800's or early 1900's. It probably comes from America or Northern Europe. Overall. The table is very good condition. There is some wear to the finish around the edges of the top and the feet. There is also a darker spot on the top of the table, where an object was probably placed and the wood faded around it. No breaks or visible ... morerepairs. Is is oval standing 28.5 inches tall, by 45 inches by 38 inches oval. Seats 4-5 comfortably and not too big or too small. We like it for its size and carved features. Would be excellent with a glass top, Has some scuffs as shown given its 100 year age. This is a very heavy piece and will require removing the top for transportation. Two people to lift top. This is certainly one of the best quartered oak carved washstands manufactured during the late 19th century. A fabulous piece that can be used as a dresser in a bedroom. Both the drawer and the two doors are serpentine with original brass pulls. A shaped and beveled mirror in very good condition. The warm oak wood c hair backs are ca rved with stylized f loral forms that somehow also convey an impression of a sunrise over fi elds and trees. The c hair fronts and legs are cut in a shallow w ave pattern. The b ack of the chairs does not have any carving. Blue upholstery covers high spring seats. Held in place by brass nailheads; it is more likely to be vinyl than leather. And is possibly original; it does not have any cracks or rips. Each c hair weighs about 16 lbs. They measure ~17" wide. 20" deep overall, 18" tall at the seat(plus 2" for the highly padde d blue seat cover) And ~31.5" tall at the back. Victorian Oak Settee w/Carved Pierced Back and Top Rail Red & Cream Velvet
A beautiful settee that will add warmth. Comfort, and beauty to any decor. This Victorian era settee is constructed from oak. It is a solid sturdy piece in amazing condition for the age. The carved back crest of this has an ornate geometric design in a half circle at the center. There are two carved scrolling leaf sections flanking the half circle and topped with a gently scrolled& incised section of wood. There are tiny carved"wings" at the top of each side. These protrude out approximately 1.5" At the center back of the settee there is a stunning pierced& carved section with a wheat sheath design. The details on the carved areas show the skill of an amazing craftsman. This has a red velvet upholstery covering the seat and back. There are creamy gold colored patches on the upper corners of the seat back and on the ... morefront as well. The colors blend nicely together and the neutrality makes it an easy match with many other colors. There is also padded armrests with matching red velvet. There are two square sections on the back of this that are also covered with red velvet. This measures as follows: 48.5" wide from side to side at the top(this measurement was taken at the outside edge of the"wings" at the top) 38 7/8" height taken at the center back, 25.5" overall depth, 20.5" seat depth, 18" seat height, 24.5" arm height to the top of the padded area, There is barely any wear or soiling on the upholstery and this piece is in amazing condition for the age.
