A fabulous set of four antique early-mid Victorian Italian lava cameos; stunningly hand carved to depict classical gods and goddesses. With unusually fine carving. A particular style and amazing attention to detail, including a tiny cherub to the shoulder of one, a caduceus and winged helmet to another(presumably Mercury) sunburst and quiver of arrows to another and terrific beard, long hair and hat to the final one(presumably Zeus) They were probably originally set into a bracelet or necklace. Dating from around 1840/50 and in excellent condition with one or two absolutely minuscule nicks here& there(see pics for detail) they weigh 24.5 grams together and measure 1.1 inches high. DESCRIPTION- Antique Italian/Florentine carved and gilded wooden arched top shadow box. Niche, shrine or frame. It seems that this may have once held a crucifix. Beautiful bold scrolled carving. Velvet lining is a dark(not as bright as the one photo) burgundy/red. I would estimate the age to late19th-early 20th century. CONDITION- The condition is good with some old inactive insect holes. Wear to the gilt(particularly around the galss from cleaning) and old over-paint in spots and areas. There is one old nail for the back and the rest are missing. Not by me) This is a very fine cameo that I paid a premium for, but it is worth it. I have have never had an unset habille cameo to offer on eBay before. My picker removed it from the setting because it was very heavy and she could not resist the quick cash she could get by selling the setting. ❀The cameo is C. 1920's to 1940's and carved in high relief for that time period. ❀I do not want to scratch her necklace to see if the setting is gold. But I did scratch test the wire that forms the"chain" I did a little scratch with the twisted ends and it passes for 10k gold. It may be higher like the setting was. ❀The diamond is tested and genuine and old brilliant cut. It is not European cut. Hand carved Italian Cameo/broach 14k gold artist signed authentic shell
You are looking at a quite rare. High quality cameo broach that was hand carved by a master craftsman in Italy. It is carved in natural shell, and framed in an ornate 14k gold framework. As you can see in the photos it is hand signed on the back by the artist. It can be worn on a chain with attached bail, or pinned on the breast broach style. It measures 1 3/4 inches tall by 1 1/4 inches wide. It does have a 14k hallmark and an inscription that I can't quite make out but looks like"Jayem" Don't be fooled by the cheap low quality plastic resin reproduction cameos. This one is genuine with the concave back, translucence, and textute/temperature displayed by real shell cameos. This is a true heirloom quality piece. This is an Italian shell cameo set carved in Torre Del Greco. Italy. The 5 cameos would make a great set a very large bracelet, a pair of earrings, a cameo pendant and a cameo ring. 1. The large cameo on the top left is a shell cameo hand carved in Italy. It is a jumbo cameo measuring 1 3/4 inches high and 1 1/4 inches wide. 2. The large cameo on the top right is an unusual horizontal cameo which is 1 3/4 inch wide by 1 1/4 inch high. 3. The two smaller cameos on the bottom left are an opposing pair which would be perfect for earrings. They are approximately 3/4 inch high by 1/2 inch wide. They are 20x15mm. 4.
