There are a few light surface scratches inside that indicate usage and if you look at the horizontal lines on the bottom inside, you can see a slight space. Maybe the size of a pin head, which is from the process of laminating. Neither of these issues goes through the wood to the bottom. Which is about 1/4" thick. The bottom is solid. I've not had any problems. I usually wipe the bowl clean as the olive oil helps treat the wood. For selling I did wash the bowl. This is a smoke free home. Thank you.

15-1/4" Diameter Turned Primitive Bowl - Maple? Elm? Burl? - Fantastic Character
Primitive Wooden Bowl Help! I am NOT an expert in this area. And I certainly do NOT want to misrepresent this item! This appears to be a VERY old bowl. Turned on a lathe by someone who was quite skilled. This piece has four pairs of horizontal grooves cut into the outside of the bowl with great precision and accuracy. The bottom is carved so as to allow the bowl to sit flat and evenly I think the wood is maple. But I am not sure. The grain variation is fantastic, and could possibly be from a burl. It is beautiful to look at, and a delight to own. The bowl has been used.hard. There is a hunk out of one side. But obviously the owners kept using this piece. The inside is worn smooth, possibly used as a kneading bowl. The rim has some damage from termites( near the place where there is a piece missing. This piece just shouts with character. Primitive Antique Burl Wood Bowl. I found this wonderful primitive burl wood bowl at an estate sale that I attended. The bowl measures approximately 11" long x 6-1/2" wide. I was told that it is natural burl and dates to the 1800's. I know nothing about this type of item but I was so intrigued with its natural appearance and wonderful old repair. Since I am relying on the information I was told I will have to leave any authentication to the new owner. The bowl has been very much used and shows its age and wear on the inside and outside. The bottom shows chopping cuts and there is a wonderful interesting metal sewn repair. This must have been a treasured piece to the original owner. Antique 4.25" Tibetan/Tibet Burl Wood Jah-Phor Tea Bowl w Silver Lining Up for sale is a wonderful. Rare antique Tibetan Jah-Phor or tea bowl made of burl wood and with a silver lining. It's 4.25" in diameter and 2" tall. The bottom is 2.5" in diameter. The side of the wood has a natural burl wood imperfection as seen in photo#3 which was intentional and not a flaw. The silver lining has little dings from age and wear. I purchased this at an estate auction. I've done nothing to treat the wood so there are some lighter places of color as in the 2nd photo that would be restored with some polish-but I wanted to leave the care of the piece to the buyer. I'm not certain of the exact age of the piece but I believe it to be 19th century. These bowls were too costly and not accessible to the ordinary Tibetan citizen ... moreand were used by the wealthy and connected. It has the patina of having been used for its intended purpose and is a terrific piece. Please note that my shipping time is up to 5 business days as I have multiple jobs and can only ship one day a week. This is a really pretty(stunner) mortar and pestle as you can see in the pictures. The mortar about 3 inches across the widest part from outside edge to outside edge and about 3-1/4 inches tall. As you can see in the pictures it is toned from age. The finish is smooth and I love the rings around it. truly turned and tooled with care) A really beautiful mortar and pestle that will display well. This is a heavy one for the size and it is a very hard wood. Burl Walnut 9" Bowl - #120 - Billings, Missouri
A very nice bowl from the Burl Walnut Company in Billings. Missouri. The company went out of business around 30 years ago but produced some gorgeous pieces during its tenure. The wood for the bowl came from a"burl, which is a tree growth where the grain has grown in a deformed manner. They're usually seen as an outgrowth from a tree trunk or branch. Burl wood is highly valued for its strength and density by artists, woodworkers and furniture makers. The bowl is in excellent condition. The dimensions are 9" wide by 4 3/4" at the base by about 3 1/2" tall.

This is a wonderful vintage wooden bowl with"Salina. Kansas" on one side of the cover. Must have been a souvenir at one time and I believe it may be a"burl" bowl from the grain showing on it. Inside the removalable cover is the date 1943 in pencil. This little bowl measures 2 1/4 inches high with a 3 inch diameter across the bottom. It is in beautiful vintage condition. Warm feel to it. it is very solid and heavy and does not have any lose parts of bark. its solid. there has been a lemon oil treatment applied.

Burl, root, lath, bowl, 4.5 inch by 2.5 inch
It is about 4.5 inches in diameter and about 2.5 inches thick. It could be turned on a wood lathe into a bowl or something. It could be infused with a plastic resin and used as a paper weight. This nice root burl came from Biloxi Mississippi when they dredged the harbor to put in floating gambling casinos back around 1995. The dredgings were used as fill dirt in Ocean Springs Mississippi which is right next door to Biloxi. I found it when I was leveling the dredgings. I have had this burl for almost 17 years. Primitive Antique Hand Carved Early Wood Burl Bowl This is a very nice. Very primitive Hand Carved Antique Wood Bowl Carved made from burl wood, carved from one piece of wood. It shows a lot of character from years of use which is most desirable. Check out the charming old repairs with old metal wire which adds to the antique interest. Someone must have loved it to make those repairs. Very primitive carving and Primitive uneven shape. Handles carved on each end. Still sturdy, great antique condition. Great Lakes Indian Woodlands Burl Bowl, c.1790, full of old knife chopping marks
Here is a nice antique Native American Burl Bowl measuring 17" dia. x 5" high. It is an ash burl bowl from the later 18th century or possibly early 19th century. Is an early lathe turned bowl with early features of a heavy rim. And a pronounced"secondary" embossed ring midway down the side changing the form of the bowl. It does have an old repair/fill where a knot hole probably occurred, and has one minor age crack in the rim. Note it is full of old knife chopping marks inside. For bid is this vintage wooden salad bowl set.includes a large bowl(12 1/4" across the top and 5 3/4" deep) 4 individual bowls(each 6 1/4" across the top and 2 1/4" high on the outside) and a serving spoon and fork, 13" long. The large bowl is etched on the bottom with: BURL WALNUT, 32, BILLINGS, MISSOURI. Antique Shallow Burl Bowl
This Japanese burl bowl exhibits calligraphy which I cannot read. I did have it appraised and the appraiser is saying"1930s-1950s" Also. It is a very shallow bowl-and only is about 1-3/4" in height. It is 12-1/2" in diameter. It is in mint condition. There is an imperfection on the back of the bowl but that is due to the"burl" And not man-made. It was more than likely it was a knot which was removed by the artist.The calligraphy means prosperity and longivity.

This bowl is very cool and is engraved to Aloha Patrice and Ken September 15 1982 Hawaiian Koa Wood. The pictures show a very cool grain with lots of fire and a vertical burl seem. There is a slight impression next to the burl on the inside and a very this shallow surface crack that has no structural significance on the external side of the burl. See the photos closely. Awesome handmade bowl. I carved this out of a burl that I salvaged off of an ancient apple tree that was damaged by a windstorm. Part of my star lite series. Branded on bottom with my star brand. Piece comes with a hand written and signed note from me to document the authenticity of the piece. Piece is rustic with great textures and colors.
