Pair of Singer Sewing Machine Cabinet Drawers with Hardware
This auction features a matched pair of Singer Sewing Machine Cabinet Drawers including the framework and attached hardware including a leaf support and two metal hooks with extra screws. The drawer pulls are brass and embossed with Singer Mfg Co. The hardware alone is worth the asking price. The wood appears to be oak. There a few scuffs and chips in the wood from not unexpected wear and tear from an antique piece. Each drawer assembly measures approximately 14-3/4" long x 5-3/4" wide x 5-3/4" high. I do not know the exact age of these pieces. But would estimate from my limited knowledge that they are pre-1930s. Thanks for looking.

American Chippendale Cupboard on Chest of Drawers. Pennsylvania Late 18th Century c. 1780-1800 Item# 120201UHP01 This is an American Chippendale Cupboard on Chest of Drawers crafted of solid Walnut. Pennsylvania circa 1780-1800. A finely crafted work, it features a beautiful hand carved molding around the crown, surrounding a dovetailed top with nearly black levels of oxidization. Bevelled"lamb's tongue" columns flank blind-cupboard doors with tombstone panels, the traditional door frame joined with glued through-tenon joints, locking with an original hand made iron lock and swinging open over original hinges with mostly original screws. The inside of the panels boast the rough unfinished chisel work of the artisan, shaping the panel to smoothly rabbet into the frame. All original shelves line the cupboard[patched along the ... morefronts] the top shelf being half the depth of the other two, all shelves being permanent and sliding into the case from the back along hidden grooves. The cupboard case has wooden pins locking the tenoned joints together. The sides constructed of two pieces of solid walnut, joined at the back with pine and poplar secondary boards with traces of an early red stain, lined around the edges with original iron wrought nails. The lower case features three drawers, each with replaced hardware, though the integrity of the holes were preserved by using an old hole for the knob hardware and filling the other with a matched walnut wooden pin. An applied lip runs along the top of the lower two drawers, the top drawer lip being carved of the solid. The drawers feature hand dovetail construction with yellow pine secondary woods with a hand chamfered bottom. The construction is quite distinctive. The back boards dovetailed onto the sides versus the traditional method where the sides of the drawer dovetail onto the backboard; the inside of each drawer has faint numeric inscriptions at the corners by the original craftsman to ensure the correct board was used for each drawer. American Federal Mahogany Bowfront Chest of Drawers, Mid Atlantic c. 1790-1810
American Federal Inlaid Mahogany Bowfront Chest of Drawers Mid-Atlantic States. C. 1790-1810 Item# 130104PYW21 This is a fine American Federal Period Bowfront Chest of Drawers. Crafted in the Mid-Atlantic region during the beginning of the Federal Period. The top board just lightly projects over the case, edged with stringer inlay and vertical mahogany veneers. The stringer inlay throughout is probably holly, possibly satinwood- each drawer is perfectly framed with an ovular stringer, perfectly complimenting the curvature of the bow front. Original stamped brass pulls on each drawer feature a prone eagle with outstretched wings. The drawers crafted in the typical manner with very crisp dovetailing to the front joint; the bottom boards are only slightly chamfered along the edges and nailed along the back. The drawer fronts are laminated blocks ... moreof yellow pine beneath gorgeous flamed grain mahogany veneers. The chest rests over splayed French feet flanking the soft bow of the apron. The backboards are poplar. Rabbeting into the yellow pine stiles and medial board- the stiles continue to the ground as the triangular supports for the rear feet. All original nails including a handful of rosehead nails still affix the backboards to the case, coupled with a few more modern nails for strength- at the top left, rosehead nails secure some paper remnants that possibly held a makers label at one point. The bottom of the case is lined with original glue blocks and entirely original feet. Most interesting. The center of the bottom of the case has a scratched pinwheel motif, a symbol commonly associated with the Pennsylvania Dutch and unattributed to a specific craftsman. The bottom of the third drawer from the top(beneath the pair of smaller drawers) is also illegibly inscribed with a nail scratch. The brass handles are impressed"H.J. on the backside. American Chippendale Walnut Chest of Drawers. Pennsylvania Late 18th Century c. 1770-90 Over Ball and Claw front feet Item# 130204PTP08 This is a fine American Chippendale Walnut Tall Chest of Drawers. Crafted in Pennsylvania during the height of the Chippendale Period c. 1770-90. The construction of the chest is dominated by an unusual joinery, almost certainly placing it in the shop of a rural craftsman somewhat removed from the influence of the trade. Most tall chests in this form of the period are joined using a thick poplar top dovetailed to the sides of the case, backboards that are chamfered into the top and rosehead nailed in orderly grids, the rear foot supports often a separate triangular secondary wood bracing the rear foot facings, the bottom board thick poplar faced by a generous blade of solid walnut and will rest over bold ... moreand large ogee bracket feet; rather atypical, the top board of this chest dovetailing to the sides of the case is somewhat thin(and was supported with an added top board as a result) the backboards"nailed" to the chest using wooden pegs secured in orderly grids, the stiles(or right-most and left-most backboards) extending down as the braces of the rear foot facings, the bottom board a thick poplar plank that was faced by a 1/16" thick strip of walnut veneer around all sides and resting over rather unusual(but fully original) front ball and claw feet and odd bracket rear feet. The use of the veneered strip around the bottom is almost an afterthought, suggesting that the craftsman changed his approach late in the design; he may originally have been planning the gadrooned molding as the finishing for this edge, but realized that this would leave little room for strength in the ball and claw feet. The decision process around it is certainly open to speculation, but in any event is certainly a depiction of a craftsman who was not familiar with designing this form. White Pine Secondaries Bottom drawer inscribed somewhat illegibly"J(or P) D. Item# 110309OPP17 This fine chest of drawers is beyond stunning visually. With a fine refinish and polish that brings each surface to life in a very real way. The use of birch is an interesting rural application, typical to New England in communities that lacked access to affordable mahogany. Many craftsmen developed their own recipes for how best to finish a birch case to look like mahogany- in New Hampshire, for example, Major Dunlap(1746-1792) recorded at length a two-part recipe to"stain wood to resemble Mehagony" The Dunlap Cabinetmakers: A Tradition in Cabinetmaking" The molded top is a ... moresingle solid plank of birch. Not veneered in any way, the molded rim carved of the solid to mirror the flow of the case. To prevent cracking from shrinking and expanding over time, the craftsman affixed the top to the sides of the case on a dovetail joint, whereby the top slides onto the sides of the case using a dovetail along the entire underside. As the board contracts and expands, it does so freely along this joint, which is why after two hundred and thirty years we have a flawless board free of cracks or splits. Both sides of the case are single solid boards. Incredibly wide, dovetailed into the bottom of the case- this is seen from the inside of the case, where score marks are evident along the white pine bottom. The backboards are pine, locked into the case with a mix of cut nails and rose head nails, each of the boards covered with an even dark oxidization The face is composed of four graduated solid carved drawers, each an absolute work of art. A barrel shaped drawer tops three smaller drawers. All finely dovetailed. The wonderful pressed glass knobs are original and add a little sparkle when the light hits them. The lower drawers are designed to open only when the top drawer is opened. Awesome carousel jewelry box by London Leather in good used condition. Appears that one of the door handles has been reattached and there is some wear to the finish. This is a great jewelry box for someone who has a decent jewelry collection as it has six drawers, interior measurements of the drawers are about 4.25" wide by about 3.25" deep. Plenty of ring slots inside one door which is about 4.25" wide and about 7.25" tall with 8 slots for rings. Four necklace hooks can be found inside the other door. The jewelry box as a whole is about 11.5" wide and about 9.75" tall. This is a very cool jewelry box despite it's slight aesthetic issues.
