It's carved in excellent details and inlaid with bone eyes and teeth. ... moreIt portrays an imperial era long-bearded old country fisherman going fishing. His hair is tied up in a neat chignon. His flowing runs knee high robe, his bare feet strongly planted on the rocky ground, one hand carrying a fish basket and another probably holding a fishing rod which is now missing, his eyes facing out intensely gazing forward, perhaps at the water to observe where he should cast his line. The carving is elegant and lively out of a heavy block of rosewood. The aged wood has a great patina. Such type of old fishermen statue carvings were very popular in the coastal areas of southern and southeastern China, and its tradition carried far throughout southeast Asia in various versions. Traditionally fish symbolizes abundance, harvest, happiness. Except minor crackings near base area, the statue is in excellent condition. It stands approx. 14 inches and weighs about 2 lbs. The wood looks like it might be to light to be black forest, I just dont know. I dont know the age of it either. The little paper background for the themometer does say made in the USA. Looks like there is a small chip on the back side edge at the top little square piece. But other than that it is in good shape. Also not sure exactly what type of dog this could be. It could be a Saint Bernard, Great Pryenees or maybe a Newfoundland. It has wonderfull detail, sorry I could not get all the dust off. This is a really neat item. This is an extremely rare and unusual BLACK FOREST hand carved wooden frame dating from around 1850. It appears to have a Middle-eastern feel to it. Such as Palestine of the 19th century or Egypt of the same period. It held a thermometer within the frame originally. That would have been a novelty then. The piece is all original with no repair or restoration. You could place a cropped photograph in the frame or a custom painting or drawing.The specie of wood is indeterminable by us. The frame has the wear and mellow patination one would expect with its age but, no damage. The piece measures 11 inches tall, 6 inches wide and 4 inches deep. Antique Black Forest Wood FOLDING POCKET WATCH HOLDER/STAND This is part of a collection of over 300 watch holders from a fine estate/antique watch& jewelry store in the Los Angeles area. The pocket watch shown is for display only and is NOT INCLUDED. The overall size of the holder is 2 3/8" x 3 3/4" long. It is about 1 1/4" deep(incl. depth of flower design) and the inside area where the watch rests measures approx. 49mm dia x about 13-14mm deep. The side design is grooved and the top has a beautifully detailed flower with acorns amidst the design. This is in excellent condition. I think there may have been a small tab on the lid that fits in the bottom to close but if so it is missing. The holders have been in storage for a long time and they are somewhat dusty and may need some light cleaning. This is a vintage Black Forest musical cuckoo clock made in West Germany by Schmeckenbecher. Recently purchased at an estate sale. I am unsure of it's age. It is marked 2-72 West Germany on the back and E. Schmeckenbecher on the inside. I am fairly certain it does not work. It does not come with pinecone weights or a pendulum and the cuckoo is missing it's door. In addition, one of the rabbit's ears is chipped and there is a split in the wood circling the face. The clock measures 10 1/2" X 7" X 5 5/8" The music box plays Auf Wiedersehen but I have no idea if it works. Perfect for parts and repairs, it will make a nice addition to any collection. Please scroll down to see the photos. Welcome to this auction! Measuring approx. 11 ¼” long x 6” tall x 7” deep. This is a wonderful Black Forest hand-carved oak sewing box. With a pincushion on top, and the initials“M.V.B. carved in the front. One side says“JAAR” Which I believe is the Dutch word for“year” the other side is dated“1898” It is in excellent vintage condition. All four corners of the base do have small chips because the wood is thinner there. But these are not immediately noticeable. And definitely do not detract. Also, one side has a small chip out of the wood on the bottom edge. As shown in the photos. There is some wear to the velvet pincushion on top. Which is not out of the ordinary for it's age. Antique Black Forest Wood Wall Alarm Clock Ready for Restoration
You are bidding on a genuine antique Black Forest Alarm wall clock. This clock is in original condition but is not assembled and needs to be restored. It appears to be complete. Except for the glass crystal. It has a nice, turned wooden bezel made up of four sections. The dial is painted on wood and is in very good condition. It has nicely painted Roman Numerals. The beautifully patterned hands are steel. The back of the clock has the original importer/retailer label on it giving set up instructions for the'alarum' It also gives instructions for hanging the clock, to quote: Drive a 3 inch iron nail 2 inches into the wall, and hang the Clock on it" The label does not give the name of the importer, but I believe it is F. Booker& Co. London Clockmaker. It is nice to see on the wood all of the original hand scribed assembly and ... moredrilling lines that were done by the person making the clock. The chains are original, as are the two 7 inch cast iron weights and the cast brass bell. The 14 1/2" long pendulum is brass with a bob on one end. This is a pair of W.u.M. Heinzeller Wood carvings. One is an Old Gentleman with a pipe and tobacco pouch. The other is an Old Woman with knitting. There are two small holes between her thumbs and fingers. I don't know what they are for. The stickers on the bottom of each reads W.u.M. Heinzeller Holzschnitzerel. 8103 Oberammergau Dorfstr.9- Tel. 4785. Each measures approx. 4 1/2" high and 3 3/4" across the bottom. They are in good shape, with no damage that I can see. Antique Black Forest Style Barometer Chalet Wood Woodenware French (Canadian)
Up for auction is a vintage antique 1920's- 40's chalet form barometer recently found at auction in the suburban Phladelphia PA area. The barometer appears French. Unsigned, but all words in French, be it Continental or French Canadian. Constructed in a Black Forest manor, really well made, of wood. The windows and window boxes appear to be pressed wood. It sits flat or can hang on the wall with a hole on the back for hanging. It appears that one of the pediments on this house has been repaired with a rubber cement glue, which could certainly be cleaned up and reglued. It appears to be in good working order.
