This was probably carved from Lindenwood and stained a rich walnut brown and is a beautiful item even without the music box. These items are almost impossible to find anymore. This dates to circa 1920's and has"Patent" inscribed on the back as well as the label that tells us the Swiss songs that it played at one time. Antique black forest detailed carving bust man smoking a PIPE Signed patina!
For sale is this nicely carved bust of a man smoking a pipe. This is a black forest carving made in Germany as evidenced by the pipe which is a German long stemmed type. The wood is either fir or pine. The craving is very detailed and had a nice dark brown patina to it. Judging from the style and patina on it I would say this was carved circa 1900-1940. The carver carved their initials EL into the back.There is a small 1/4" hole on the bottom which may have been where something like a base was attached. The condition of the piece is excellent. Just a few light scratches and a few nicks. The measurements are 7" x 6" It weighs 1 pound 3 ounces or 541 grams. Thanks for looking! This piece is in Excellent Condition with a slight break to the top birds beak. It has been glued and is 100% secure, some minimal wear to the wood, and the barometer does not work. The glass front to the barometer is held with 3 screws, 1 is missing. No other issues, we guarantee 100% you will be more than happy with the excellent condition. Antique CUCKOO CLOCK German Black Forest Carving 19" x 12 Cones 7" long
Antique Wooden German Cuckoo Clock I don't know the age of this clock. But it is at least 60 years old. Measures approximately 19" from the top of the bird carving to the bottom carving. Width approximately 12" Large heavy( 2+ lbs each) cones 7" I purchased this clock over 40 years ago. I had it serviced then and it worked. I moved a few times. And it remained boxed. I did not use it in the interum. It has had some repairs and needs some work. I believe mostly cosmetic. The back has instructions on how to operate a cuckoo clock. See photo#9. Here are the topics that I have noted that need to be addressed: There are three roman numerals missing- 1.5 and 10. The bird's door is detached and needs to have a hinge or appropriate closure mechanism added. There was mending to the top carving and it needs some TLC. This Little Carving is very old. I found him in a jar of antique buttons I purchased at an ectate sale. He has great character and is a great little esampl eof the Black Forest tradition. His paint is a little suffed(Probably from bouncing around in the button jar. But he is intact with nothing chipped, broken off or missing. You can see from the look on his face taht he is crooning a song and his little dog, at his side, is singing along! He is a little figure standing only 2 3/4 inches tall. This listing is for an Antique cuckoo quail clock. Most likely from the late 1800's. It is one of the better ones from my collection. It runs great. Both of the birds are hand carved and the wings flap as they cuckoo. The quail cuckoos each quarter hour with its"chirp" and then the regular cuckoo cuckoos the number of hours. The clock. As you can see, is in very good condition. I can find no place where it has been repaired. I believe the hands have been replaced. Other than that, it is all original. The clock is 18" high, 15" wide, and 8" deep. I don't remember seeing another cuckoo-quail clock with 2 carved birds like this one. I simply have too many clocks and must start selling them off. On the base of the clock we have a brce of pheasants beautifully carved with fine detail in their fur and claws. They are surrounded by carved leaves. On either side of the clock we have branches of leaves carved in a filigree. Measures some 7.75" x 5.5" max width. The fox's head is of a very good size measuring some 5.5" from ear to nose. The head extends to a depth of some 2" Condition is excellent and age commensurate with a very tiny shave to an ear. Inconsequential and only mentioned for the sake of accuracy. Up for consideration is a. Vintage Black Forest Mountain Climber Wood Carving Hanging Lamp. w/ stained glass shade. I bought this lamp at an estate sale. He is in excellent condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs. There is some dust. Measures 31in. from top of the rope to the bottom of the lamp shade. 19 1/2in. hand to hand. 18in. from the top of his hat to the bottom boot. The rope is approx. 64in. top to bottom. The power cord is approx. 12ft. long with a inline on/off switch. It will easily reach just about any outlet close by. This auction is for a vintage to antique wood carving of an old man with a slouchy hat. His possibles bag slung on his back, a shotgun under one arm, cartridge belt at his waist and his faithful hunting companion, which looks like a long-haired pointer, is seated beside him; have had this around for quite a while because we found it interesting but time to down size a little, came to us with no provenance so we really don't know actual age or origin; it is very much in the same style as Black Forest carvings, particularly those of the Oberammergau. Bavaria, Germany region. The carving is roughly 6 1/2" tall, the base is about 2 1/4" x 3 1/4" overall near excellent condition with light wear to the stain/finish at high points; no cracks, chips or other damage seen.
