We have a letter from 1978 from a family member explaining to Colonel Vanderschaaf that this set was used by her mother as a young woman in the early 1900s. Working German Black Forest Vineyard Grape Carving Vintage Cuckoo Clock
A German Black Forest Cuckoo clock in excellent like-new condition. The clock features wonderful grape woodcarvings as seen in the pictures. The bird's door opens and"cuckoos" once at the bottom of each hour and"cuckoos" at the top of the hour(once for each hour) All the clock parts are in very good working condition. The bellows(which are like flutes that produce the cuckoo sound) Chime, chains and weights are in great shape. The Regula time movement is working fine and keeps good time, but once moved, the clock may require some adjustments or service(typical for these types of clocks) Two pinecone shaped weights suspended on long chains and power the clock. Before the weights reach the end of the chains, simply pull the chains to raise the weights back up the bottom of the clock carving to continue clock use. Vintage 20" German Black Forest Wood Carving- The Hunter" with a Rifle& Dog- Signed 1991. The Black Forest(German: Schwarzwald) is a wooded mountain range in Baden-Württemberg. Southwestern Germany. It is bordered by the Rhine valley to the west and south. The highest peak is the Feldberg with an elevation of 1,493 metres(4,898 ft) The region is almost rectangular with a length of 200 km(120 mi) and breadth of 60 km(37 mi) Hence it has an area of approximately 12,000 km2(4,600 sq mi) The name Schwarzwald, i.e. Black Forest, goes back to the Romans who referred to the thickly forested mountains there as Silva Nigra, i.e. Black Forest, because the dense growth of conifers in the forest blocked out most of the light inside the forest. Small Vintage Cuckoo Clock Germany Black Forest Nice Carving
Up for auction. I have this vintage Cuckoo Clock. I purchased this item at a local estate sale. I am by no means an expert, so please ask questions. The case itself looks very good. It measures 7" wide and 8" tall. The face. Pendulum, weights and cuckoo bird look fine too. The bellows are intact. There is a tiny corner broken off the tree. The clock is not running steady. I think it just needs cleaning. When I move the hands the cuckoo bird comes out and cuckoos. The pendulum will tick a while then stop. If I pull on the chain, it keeps ticking, so it should be an easy fix. This clock was not made with the header that many cuckoo clocks have. It is marked Germany on the face and movement. Antique Black Forest German Cuckoo Clock ~ Nice Carving ~ Workss
This is a very nice. Hand carved, antique cuckoo clock. Beautifully carved in Linden wood with leaves, vines and Edelweiss flowers. 13 1/2" tall, 10 1/2" wide and 5" deep. All the carvings are in good condition. The heavy cast brass movement has been ultra-sonically cleaned and oiled. The bellows have been re-covered. To deepen the tone of the cuckoo call, the lower note pipe has been extended at a right angle(see pictures) I have never seen this done in a cuckoo before. The clock has been running for a week with no problems. Runs one day per winding. Has bone hands and an old carved cuckoo bird. The cuckoo door is nicely carved. Very nice clock with an unusual bird on the carved crown. The back door split a long time ago and was repaired with wood strips. Comes with pendulum and weights. I DO NOT SHIP INTERNATIONALLY! It was carved by one of the master carvers of Briewnz, Switzerland and carved from Lindenwood and stained a very nice rich walnut brown. I was just in Switzerland and bought this at an antique sale in Thun. Switzerland. This is one of a pair of two and is in beautiful condition. It is a table top easel type picture frame. It was carved by one of the master carvers of Briewnz, Switzerland and carved from Lindenwood and stained a very nice rich walnut brown. The frame is carved to simulate grape vines and is carved with a heavy bas relief. Super imposed on the frame. But all carved from one piece of wood, are grape leaves. They are carved in great detail showing their veins and are carved in a cameo cut out decor. This ... moreis one of the prettiest picture frames that I have seen in such excellent condition and we could not find any repairs. 12" high. 8" wide, and it opens to 7.5" deep and the photo insert is 5 and 3/4" by 3 and 3/4" The top of the back opening is covered with tape to prevent the glass insert from falling out. A vintage-circa 1920- Black Forest hand carved model of a chamois or mountain goat from Engelberg. Switzerland. The well carved and detailed goat is mounted on a rocky plinth base and measures 4 1/2 by 2 1/8" by 8" tall. In good condition. Consistent with its vintage normal and expected wear is present as shown. Both horn tips are blunted and so is the right ear tip. Where carvings of bears are most commonly found in the Black forest. Black Forest Carving - Bear and Trinket tray
This is a beautifully carved bear standing on a plinth beside a gold-coloured metal cup. the whole thing is 9 cm by 5.7 cm at the base. And the bear itself is 6 cm by 4 cm. The metal cup is 5 cm in diameter at the top. 1.5 cm deep and 4 cm in diameter at the base. The bear seems to have been carved from one piece of wood including the base. We think this could be a Black Forest piece as the carving is sharp and clear and almost lifelike. It has two shiny black eyes. The item could be used as a trinket. Change or jewellery container and would make a stunning addition to a desk or dressing table.

Switzerland Up for auction is this amazing desk set. It is carved in Brienz. Switzerland from walnut wood and is circa 1880. The base is comprised of two large grape leaves decorated with grape vines and a bunch of grapes. The inkwells are a cobalt, almost teal looking blue- a very unusual color. Small chips on the top circumference of the glass that you can see in the photos is the only condition issue, otherwise generally good used condition. The glass inkwells are topped by carvings that simulate grape leaves. The main focal point is a beautiful carved box and it is carved to simulate the bark of a tree which holds a bird nest and a bird sitting on the nest. The walnut wood has a beautiful ... morepatina and the item is in generally very good used condition with just a few tiny chips on the edges of the leaves and the fern behind the bird. The nbird nest and bird is the lid of the box and opens. The inkwell measures 4.5" high. 10.5" wide, and 6.25" deep. Nicely carved in the hunting lodge theme- complete with hanging game on each side of the clock(rabbit and bird) and crossed rifles. Not to mention the stag head. As well as the usual Cuckoo bird, there is a hunter in his chair that comes out to the theme of Emperor Waltz every hour. Clock looks complete with three pine cone weights, the pendulum all chains and excellent quality REGULA clock movement. The clock assembled(without chains/weights or pendulum) measures 18” long x 12” wide. Cosmetic condition is great. As far as working condition. It will need a few things. The bird’s“wind bag” that makes it cuckoo has a hole in it. So the bird pops out every 30 min but doesn’t cuckoo. We haven’t ... morebeen able to get it to keep time.
