Vintage stag carving. This is a very nice wood carved stag that has been intricately carved by a skilled German or Swiss woodcarver. The base measures 14-1/2' wide by 4-1/4' deep and to the highest point of the antlers it stands 13' tall. It is in very good condition but with an age crack on the side of the wooded brush. This is a very charming carving of a goat and its baby. I believe that it is black forest based on the style and the age. I purchased this from an individual who knew it to be at least 90 years old. It stands approximately 8 inches tall and 8 inches long. The wood is quite dark and very dense and heavy. It is in very good condition except for missing the tip of one of its horns.

Black Forest Inspired ROYAL KNIGHTS PANEL Wood Carving Home Decor Folkart
I am a serious collector of all things hand carved. In wood and in stone. For 35 years I have wandered the Globe in various businesses and have amassed a collection of several thousand carvings. At one point in my career I was even receiving calls and faxes from around the world wondering if I was interested in buying entire villages, subject to modern development, hydro-electric projects, etc. It's now time. According to my lovely wife of this entire period to begin thinning the herd. Over the next year or so, I plan to"share" my collection with those interested in owning a bit of history and hand carved pieces. I am so excited at the creativity of many so far who are using these carvings to adorn kitchen cabinets, elaborate document frames for Congressional Offices, and architectural accoutrement applications. So many have ... moredecided to share their projects with me as I am very attached to all these pieces. This is one of my finest carvings and it pains me to even think of letting it go. I had this panel carved years ago with an inspiration from an ancient stone carving on a cathedral in northern Germany. It was meant for an architectural project. But the genre of the accoutrements changed and the piece was not used. I call this the ROYAL KNIGHTS PANEL. It is 40 inches(W) X 40 inches(H) X 3 inches Thick at it's thickest point. It weighs over 100 lbs and I cannot lift it myself because of it's bulk. The carving blank is laminated re-purposed TEAK which is at least 350 years old and came from an old Dutch Colonial estate in Sulawesi. Please review the pictures very closely. I will send additional photos upon request. Due to the age of the wood and the thickness and complexity of the carving, I have learned over the years that it is inevitable that some"cupping" of the panel and delamination on joints can occur, so we have had all such major carvings reinforced with wrought iron back bracing. This is a very fine hand carved nutcracker that was produced by a few small studios and individuals in the Rhine Valley region of southern German ie Black Forest. Switzerland and northern Italy. This nutcracker depicts a very formal older gentlemen who resembles Otto von Bismark. The nutcracks is in very good condition with exceptional detail to his facial features. This is a fantastic item. And except for the base, it seems to be all carved from one piece of wood. It is probably carved from Lindenwood. It is very heavy and stained a rich walnut brown. The carving reminds me very much of the Swiss Carvings from Brienz. Depicting William Tell and his son. This carving is beautifully executed in great detail. Particularly in St. Christopher's beard, as well as his feet and hands. The Christ Child is holding the world in his right hand and giving a blessing with his left hand. This carving is in very good used condition- there is a small quarter inch chip missing on the base to the left of St. Christopher's foot ... morebut it is hardly visible and can easily be stained brown. It’s also a bit of a mystery that’s attracted quite a bit of attention at our shop since we acquired it. It’s definitely a bird of prey and most likely an eagle. Perched on top of a plinth with its wings open. The body has meticulously and realistically carved features. With inlaid eyes made from bone. It resembles the style of carving from the Black Forest region of Germany. And likely dates to the mid twentieth century or possibly earlier. On the eagle’s chest is a most unusual emblem of what appears to be a double-masted sailing canoe(or some other sort of open boat) on water. Set within a circular border of geometric shapes. Did this belong to a sailing club somewhere in Europe or the U.S. Was it used as a trophy? A coat ... moreof arms? The wood appears to be oak that has been stained and vanished. It is in very good vintage condition. With a small loss in the wood above one eye, and some wear in the varnish typical of several decades of display and handling. BLACK FOREST Style Wood Carving Shepherd and Sheep
As can be seen in my pictures. This carving is from a single block of wood and depicts a shepherd with a wide brim hat with a crook and his sheep. The original price tag on the base shows as $375. There does appear to be a repair on the brim of his hat but that may be original to the piece or very well done. it stands 11 inches tall and approximately 7 inches wide. I do not know its place of origin but the clothing style appears to be South American.

Black Forest Wood Carving - Bear Bud Vase, Brienz c.1930's, Switzerland
A vintage Brienz standing bear bud vase. Was purchased some time during 1933 in Redwood Forest California. The bear itself stands 5" tall. With vase the complete piece stands 6" tall. Bear is slightly loose from stand but has not come apart yet. Vase has one rough spot on the edge. Seems to be from manufacturing and not damage. Original glass bead eyes. I have included several photos but please contact me if you need any more or have questions. I am not an expert on the Brienz style but feel confident that this is authentic.

Antique Unusual Black Forest Carving Tongued Creature Wooden Wall Hanging
I believe this to be a very old Black Forest wood carving. Although I am not positive. It seems to follow the animal/leaf like design that I have read about. This piece hangs on the wall and has a circular hanger on the back. This is an extremely interesting piece, and I am so disappointed that someone has decided to'remove' certain areas in the carving. This piece measures about 18" at its widest, and is about 13" in height. I can't even decide what the creature is- kind of a cat like animal, with horns like a ram, and a mustache, and his tongue hanging out. Lots of leaves and stems, so much detail. However, there are condition issues. There are six areas where it looks like someone has removed bone tusks near the mouth. There is still some remnant of a material to the right side of the tongue- almost feels stone-like. ... moreYet, the missing pieces in the bottom corners have left remnants of wood posts. In addition to the 6 missing pieces, there are several areas where the end of leaves have broken off- the two leaves that hang from the bottom corners, and the leaf on the upper right hand corner- all have pieces that have broken off. The carving is extremely dusty and I have made no attempt to clean it. Also, appears that this carving consists of two pieces of wood- there is a background piece of wood and the carving which sits on top of that. I have tried to show this with a picture taken from the side. Please, please ask any questions if you have them. I will be happy to send any additional photos that you request. Thanks for looking. Martin Trost Haus Arndt 1906" There is also in the lower right hand side another beautiful pewter decor with a crest that could hold another inscription. The cabinet closes on the side with a hook and has a little knob in the front for a handle. The pewter is mounted on the front panel that is carved from oak. The whole cabinet has a rich brown walnut colored patina. It has two shelves and two hooks in the back for hanging on the wall. Without the hooks. Swiss Beautifully carved cabinet standing on four carved bun feet. Sides are fully decorated with various styles of carving. Extensive pointillism. Sheaths of wheat in high relief. Back is carved with a large star in bas relief. The top also shows sheaths of wheat and leaves. The front is heavily decorated as well- and is a match holder in the shape of a carved hunting bag decorated with a rabbit and a powder horn. The powder horn is carved in bas relief showing an iron cross. This is a beautiful item in very good used condition. It has a key but I don't think it's the original key as it doesn't actually lock the lock. It's for decoration. The inside has 6 evenly ... moredivided partitions that of course could be used to store anything. Not just cigars. The door doesn't shut tightly but does shut. It is a rich walnut brown with a lovely rich patina. It measures 16" high with the top decor and without it. It is 13.5" high. 10.25" wide. And 7 and 1/8ths inches deep.
