Purchased from a local estate sale. This is a unique and rare wooden infant's high chair. Wood finish is turning into a nice patina with primitive wear marks from lots of loving use! Back of chair has a tole/ toleware style or Hitchcock style painted decoration, and appears to be from the 1930's-50's. Very old piece in nice shape for its age! Because the local estate this came from is located so close to Lancaster. PA, I do believe that is the likely origin of this old piece. The tole style painted portion looks very PA Dutch, which is another indication that it is in fact from that area, and may be an Amish or Mennonite piece. Local antiques that come from Lancaster County are either items owend by the Amish and Mennonite communities, or they were items made by Amish and Mennonite craftsmen. It is missing the leather handles, and ... moreone can see there is some wear and tear. I believe the stain on the top will come out. It has several bands of brass riveted to it. The bottom has no wheels, only wood rails. The lock has no key, and sometimes when you close it it locks up, but can easily be turned with an object that fits the hole in the lock.
