Dates approximately 1890/1910. 18" long Made from solid oak. In WONDERFUL condition with no missing or replaced timber. Inlaid Ebony and boxwood banding and further inlaid to each corner. Inlaid with the original sold brass central cartouche. Pictures really don't do it justice. If you see it in front of you you'll be delighted. No warping to the lid. And this closes true flush and square. The lid opens fully. The solid brass catch at the front is a very interesting design and very unusual. It is worn and does not lock in place otherwise its in good condition. The inner lid fixed silk panel is original to the box and in pretty good condition with very minor wear. This type of box would be great to house pocket watches. Hatpins or medals. It really does have a multitude of uses. Considering how old the box is its in wonderful condition. Boxes of this calibre are becoming increasingly rare. I’M PRETTY SURE THAT YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. Box retains the original hinges. YOU ONLY GET THIS TYPE OF QUALITY FROM US. Comprising a wonderful interior that has been relined in expensive plush velvet material of the highest quality. All the added dividers within the box can easily be repositioned or removed if desired. Beneath the base of the box has also been lined in velvet to stop any scratches to other surfaces. I'd like to tell you I've seen this sort of arrangement before. But never. This is a most unusual drop leaf mechanism. The tapered rod to which I am pointing is held in a spring affair and rests against the skirt when the leaf is up. Stretching it down a bit, until it clears the skirt, allows the leaf to drop. amazingly simple. In 20 years of peddling furniture, I've never seen another. I removed this from a solid walnut table that was so bastardized that it was impossible to tell which pieces came first and which ones started together. I saved the large wood screws and kept them in place with wrapped packaging tape. Soooo you are purchasing this unusual dropleaf mechanism. I am wondering whether some clever individual LONG ago invented this spring configuration by using springs that had another purpose and then never made another ... moredropleaf table again. Could be. One of the tapered rods has been snapped and glued. Really, were this some common bit of hardware, I would toss the pair, but they will make the best dropleaf, maybe replacing some horrid replacement hardware that someone put on thinking they were doing the right thing. If you are purchasing more than a single item. The calculator feature on ebay does its best and is occasionally accurate. The more you purchase, the farther off the mark the calculator can be. It's really pretty simple. If I click USPS as the best shipping choice for a single item, nearly always purchasing 6 will mean FedEx is the best choice. We recently extracted this wood work from a large entry corridor room of a New York City skyscraper. The overall size of the room is 52 ft. L x 15 ft. W x 118 in. H. The crown molding is 11.5 in. H and consists of two rows of ornate carving. And an addition row of stencil work. The panels are 106.5 in. H and have varying widths as can be seen in the pictures. The front door entry with carved arch and palladian pediment is 5 ft. W; the pediment is 32 in. H and the doors are 79 in. H x 29.5 in. W each. There is a second carved arch entry that is 69.5 in. When you hang it it is normally about a foot off of the floor and hanging on the wall I never noticed it. It is very solid with the original chains and hardware for the pocket. The finish and patina is lovely. It has been in the family for about 100 years and the only thing we ever did was put lemon oil on it. Size: Just under 23" tall by 16" wide. It id 4" deep with the book pocket closed and it opens up to 6-1/2" on the top. When it is fully opened the front is on a slant. The carving and detail is beautiful. It easily mounts on the wall. All you need to do it put a hook underneath the scroll on top. When it is mounted on the wall you can keep it fully closed. When you want to put books or magazines in it you just pull the pocket out and set the books on the shelf inside. This magazine rack would be lovely with so many decors. Everyone who sees it comments on how beautiful it is. History: My mother bought this from a friend in the 1960's. The friend was 80 years old and it had belonged to her parents. I know this is not a lot of detail. But it is believed to be from the late 1800's. Fab Gloriously Detailed Antique Victorian Pin Cushion Doll Walnut Face Exceptional 19th Century Victorian pin cushion doll. Recently unearthed from an old Baltimore estate. I don't think she's been touched in many. Many decades. She stands about 7 1/2" by about 3" in diameter at the base. The glory is in the detail. And in the high period fashion. She's got a painted walnut(or some other kind of nut) face. Hair, a fancy silk Victorian bonnet with exquisite silk ribbon tie. Fashionable bustle back. Her fringed embossed silk shawl is embellished with a fancy embroidery stitch. Her dress is a copper colored silk, the skirt of which is done in the same copper silk as well as in a section of rich brown silk velvet decorated with a turkey stitch. And check out her little reticule purse with the hanky sticking out. Astonishing ... moreattention to detail. Obviously all original. Her hands are cut from what sems to be a heavy vellum. Antique Wood Turned Finial appears to be Walnut 10" high
At auction is this beautifully turned finial. It is approximately 3-3/4" wide at its widest point and 10" tall with a mounting dowel end that is 5/8" X 1-1/2" It looks to be made of Walnut and is nicely detailed. You may have just the perfect spot for this finial. The wood is in good shape but as you can see in the pictures the finish shows wear. This auction is for a very old candle/plant stand. It is from the 1800's. It has been in my family for many generations. I am not sure if it is walnut or mahogany. I was told it was walnut but just not sure how to tell. The photos show the condition of the stand. You can see on the top and the bottom of the top piece. It does come off and you can glue it permantly if you like. When I ship it I will wrap the round piece off of the stand and that will protect it better. I just left it as is. The top piece has some seperation in the wood and you can see on the bottom where it has been held together with old clips. It has a little area where the wood is chipped on the bottom rim. The wood has a lovely grain and the slope is a fantastic size. Perfect for using as intended or out on display. The box is of fine quality has brass inlay and corners. The box is generally in good condition but does have some age related wear as can be expected. This includes light surface marks on the exterior including a ring mark on the lid. there is also tarnish to the brass as can be seen in the photos. The desk top is larger than your typical secretary desk. There is some cracking on the rim of the desk that would also be con sidered the inside of the top rim when the desk is closed. Walnut and maybe other woods combined cigarette case holds 36 cigarettes. Has original finish. Cigarette rack can be removed so that it may be used as an empty box. Plays beautiful music, sounds like it may be from early 1900's. Wind up music on the bottom, the wire is detached that originally went to lid so it plays soon as you wind it, with the lid closed or open. The overall size of this great-looking piece is 44 inches wide, 20 inches deep, 29 inches high to the vanity and 64 inches to the top of the mirror. There is a solid walnut carved crest on top of the mirror, and burl walnut veneer covers the entire cabinet, including veneered sides. The piece is in fantastic condition, and we have refinished the top of the cabinet to expose the beautiful veneers. There are three dovetail drawers across the base, and the chair opening size is 17 inches wide and 21 inches high. This is one of 2 antique counters available for sale in a 1853 store building located in Altona. Illinois 61414 on U.S. hywy#34 between the Quad Cities and Peoria, Illinois. The counter has a refinished old walnut top that was lovingly restored by the previous owners of the antique shop. Size of the smaller one at the rear of the shop is: 32 in. height by 11 feet long by 34 in. in depth by the walnut top dimensions. The Base is on a black painted molding with elaborate molding from the black base up to the beautiful walnut top with an antique finish as mentioned above! You will love the molding and the seller hopes to add pictures of this counter and the other longer one soon. There is one long shelf on this counter for storage.
