The long box ... moreholds the inkwell and vesta case at either end and the pen tray along the middle which pulls out for extra storage underneath. Both the vesta case and inkwell are embossed as such on the lids and have brass catches that release the lids. The vesta case has a socket for holding a wax vesta, a rough plate that is hinged for striking the matches and storage underneath. The inkwell has a glass bottle that is held in place with a brass rim and under the lid is the stopper to seal the bottle. The pen tray is lined in blue watermarked silk and all pieces are edged in gold. The box would have sat in a larger box or in a writing slope and a it is in absolute excellent condition. It measures 330mm(12.75" long x 52mm(2" by 42mm(1.75" deep. The inkwell& vest are 43mm square by 35mm tall. Please check out all the other antique smoking and writing implements. Up for bid is a set of antique architectural. Solid walnut under yellow paint staircase balusters or spindles. Sizes are various, because the were on a staircase as opposed to a landing run. The sizes range from 27" 27-1/4" 28-1/4" 30-5/8" and 31-1/2" The all have a dovetail cutout at the bottom, where they would fit into the stair tread of each step. The top is a taper to fit into the bottom of the top rail. There are a few, which are missing some portion of the taper, but for the most part they all appear to be in exceptional condition, some with their original square cut nails still intact. Antique Walnut Cylinder Desk Victorian Era c. Late 1800's Roll Top Barrel
Outstanding Victorian walnut cylinder desk. This intricately detailed piece has definite Eastlake influences including a decorative grid pattern that borders the panelled sides and back and elaborate scroll decoration below the writing surface. Cylinder top conceals pigeon holes and a pull-out writing surface covered in emerald green felt. Brass hinges. Diamond-shaped escutcheons and rosette-mounted bail handle drawer pulls. One long shallow top drawers as well as three half-size drawers and a generous cabinet space. Dowel construction throughout including the drawers, top and back. The locking mechanisms in the drawers have two patent dates- April, 1875 and August, 1882. No maker's marks. Over all this piece is in very good condition. Especially considering its age. One of the back feet looks like it has been repaired. See picture. This is a beautiful solid black walnut slant top writing desk. Circa 1810.The figured walnut top is very rich and beautiful with its grain patterns,rich walnut tones and beauty marks. I rescued this diamond in the rough. It had many many coats of white paint hiding this beautiful black walnut wood. I lovingly& meticulously hand restored this desk back to full glory. I restored the finish with many. Many coats of hand rubbed shellac, maintaining the antique warm glow, rubbed to a silky smooth yet allowing the beautiful grain textures to be felt.There was a trim around the back of the top which was missing, I custom made this new back rail trim using reclaimed 200 year old black walnut. The drawer pulls are from a 200 year old dresser and are solid walnut hand carved pulls. The harp shaped end is gorgeous as you can easily see with its ... morecone shaped finial on the end of the hand turned support which joins it to the drawer base.The slant top is fixed in position. There is no lid that lifts up, this was designed as a writing desk, dating back to the quill pen days. There is an age shrinkage split in the top which I chose not to restore. It gives great character to this lovely piece. The drawer locks are missing.I restored all the drawers, carefully taking them all apart and regluing them all and now they are rock solid and slide excellently. Full depth drawers with lots of storage.The desk is finished on all sides, allowing it to be placed anywhere in a room. The recessed flat panel sides are a great design. Adding to the beauty. I purposefully left some character marks remain in this desk such as tiny chip of wood,left top edge) pinholes etc, they give this desk awesome character, I was not trying to create a reproduction piece I try and respect the antique with all of its age, history and character. This is a hard to find gorgeous Crosley 628B from 1937. Thi s 6 tube radio is a step up from the common AA 5(All American 5) radio. I did not have to polish the case. It looks the same as when it was purchased many many y ears ago. The raised top is quite unique. There are no cr acks or deep sc ratches. There is one small scuff on the top. The paper and electrolytic(filter) cap's have been replaced. Along with the weak tubes. The bakelite case is 1/4 inch i n place s and the radio weighs 12 lbs. A realignment was performed. Controls cleaned and lubricated, dial lamp and power cord replaced. Rec eption ac ross the band(sensitivity) is outstanding. I was receiving stations from NYC and beyond in the evening. The vol ume is also outstanding. I play my radios for two weeks or more prior to the sale. I will wrap the radio in a cocoon of four ... morelayers of the l arge bu bble wrap to ensure it arr ives undamaged and I will insure it. Please wait for my invoice before paying. Very nice handcrafted spider-style pin cushion and spool holder with 4 metal prongs. Base is walnut. Hand painted with gold edge trim, and finished with shellac. Stem is constructed of 4 stacked spools trimmed in gold paint and shellac finished. I am concluding this is an 1800's piece based upon the shape/design of the spools. The cushion is made of velvet, blue and brown; it is very firm when pressed; resistance is initially encountered when inserting needle(several layers of cloth) but an'unclean' needle comes out shiny, indicating the possibility of emery. This is a really beautiful burl walnut carved Chippendale cocktail bar cabinet that dates from the 1940s-50s that just came in on a container ... morefrom England. It’s in its original finish. And has breathtaking grains along the top, sides and the front. It has two large doors that retain their original brass hardware, with picture frame molding, that open to reveal a mirrored back maple interior with a cutaway glass shelf top, and plenty of space underneath to store all your bottles. It has a little rack on the right-hand door that must have been used to hold olive picks and such for your martinis, and it has a white Masonite cutting board that pulls out to cut lemons and limes. If you’re really frugal because you want to save your money to buy more antiques, you can use it to cut your cherries and olives in half. Underneath the doors is a dovetail drawer with picture frame molding and its original brass hardware. There is also an interior light, but because it’s from England, it would have to be rewired to meet U.S. standards. The cabinet stands upon tall cabriole carved legs, has a carved solid walnut edge along the top, and is in really nice original condition. Victorian Antique Walnut Veneered Trinket Box with Brass Trim Secret Compartment
I am selling this super old Victorian antique walnut veneered trinket box with brass trim. Twin side carry handle and a secret compartment. The finish is ornate and the box was made in England. Inside the lid is a documents wallet and there is a lift-out tray too. It measures 12 3/4 inches by 9 3/8 inches by 6 inches. It weighs 2.75 kilos. So it's a big, heavy item. The condition is good; the top has scratches and there's some damage to the carving on the four corners and the inside was painted a hideous green. But overall it's pretty decent for the age. With a bit of effort the box would be a show stopper! It would be a super addition to any collection. Or excellent display or practical period item. Please feel free to ask any questions. Antique 1800's Desk Walnut Slant Front Top Section Only or Countertop Original
Antique 1800's desk slant front top or possibly a counter top desk for a country store. Etc. I believe that it's all original with the original outside finish and interior light green paint. The wood is walnut, popular back in the old days. The early desk hardware is pictured in photos# 3 and# 8. As you can see it possibly is a desk that just sat on a counter, etc. because of the way it's not finished on bottom and not much of evidence of any nails or screws holding it on to a base, so possibly a complete unit in itself and all complete. Photo#9 shows the pencil or pen holder that extents the whole inside front. In photo#4 the hole for an early ink well can be seen. It measures about 26 inches wide, about 20 1\4 inches deep and about 8 1\2 inches high in back and about 6 1\2 inches high in front. The slant front with aging has ... morea couple of cracks from the wood drying over the many years. You can notice in photos#2,3,and#8 that the interior top looks lighter than the outside which is common with antiques where the outside is exposed to light, smoke, dust etc. thru the years darkening the color and I would say the exterior is close to a medium(Early American Minwax) color which is a desirable color for antiques.It's a fairly heavy piece about 26 lbs. and shipping will vary depending on where it's going just to let you know. This is a solid walnut carved art- nouveau/craftsman- styled desk which is finished on all four sides. I am estimating it was made between 1895-1915. When this style was gaining popularity. However, this kind of desk is extremely RARE. Especially since it is finished on all four sides. The very first photo has the front finished side with the five drawers/cabinets, and the other side has the identical carvings but with no drawers(last photo listed) There are also two different close-ups of either side of the most carved part, photos 2 and 7. The very first picture is a photo of the desk without the red felt covering, which was replaced recently after it was discovered through restoration work that the original top of the desk was red felt originally. This desk was bought at an auction of an old Pasadena home, where it"lived" for ... morea great number of years. There is slight peeling of the top walnut veneer but it can be easily repaired. Here we have a really wonderful 19th Century New England trencher with a rich dark patina and old repair. This old dough bowl measures 20 3/4" wide. 11 5/16" deep and 3 3/4" to 3 7/8" tall. It weighs 6 pounds 3 ounces. It has the most wonderful rich dark golden brown patina and it has age cracks. Wear and an old repair. This 19th Century trencher was hand crafted from one piece of wood. That we believe to be walnut and it is loaded with charm. It has thinner sides that are balanced with thicker ends which was designed for strength during lifting and handling. This large deep bowl has early age appropriate evidence of use with chop marks and cut marks from utensils inside the bottom. The repair has age. It is more apparent from the outside and it is filled with a semi-soft brown wax-like substance. On the bottom are some ... morevery light scratches from shelf wear which will disappear with a waxing. This magnificent piece is a smooth edged fine walnut with gilded inside channel Late Victorian Pier Mirror done in a simplified Queen Anne Silhouette with two piece beveled glass. This mirror is grand. Measuring 56 inches tall by 24.5 inches wide, and weighs in at 35 pounds. It is in remarkable shape for its age, and has truly been cared for. The glass is original, high quality thick mirror glass with a beveled edge(beveling is always a sign of quality mirror work) The two pieces indicate that the glass was more than likely hand made and hand cut to shape in a limited size trough- the old fashioned way, when mirror was first being produced in larger sizes in 16th century Venice. Antique Eastlake Victorian Black Forest Picture Frame; walnut, old surface
Up for bids we offer this antique. Black Forest, picture frame at no reserve. From the Victorian period, it's made of walnut with a grooved surface and cut and carved corner medalions. The wood still has its original shellac; we cleaned it up but otherwise it's unrestored. The inner frame still has its original plaster and gold leaf paint with only minor aging flaws. The frame's overall measurements are 9 1/2" by 7 3/8" and the opening is 6 1/2" by 4 1/4" It's well-built and still tight and sound. It's right out of an old home where it had been hidden away in the attic for decades. It's in very good, overall condition and is missing only a small pointed piece of one of the corner medalions which doesn't hurt its appearance. The petite size is perfect for framing and matting a Victorian trade ... morecard, postcard, early photo, and even a mirror. Circa 1780..Stunning Walnut ..Georgian Antique Dresser Chest of Drawers Commode
This spectacular chest circa 1780 is an amazing Georgian Style commode/chest of drawers When I acquired this beautiful diamond in the rough.I knew it was destined for greatness. I restored this piece from top to bottom. This is some of the most beautiful burled walnut I have ever laid eyes upon.This is a world class antique and a gorgeous work of art. You will never tire of looking at this beautiful chest, it is so rich and beautiful. The highly burled walnut veneer over solid walnut drawer fronts is exquisite. The chest is solid walnut. Other than the drawer sides,drawer bottoms and drawer backs which are solid chestnut. The left side panel is the most gorgeous walnut side panel I have ever seen, no question about it. The burling looks like a storm cloud/ball of fire.The cabinet maker was not just a craftsman of the highest order, he was ... morean artist as well. The side panels are 5/8 inch thick, cut as one plank of solid walnut.The top is solid walnut with a beautiful shaped edge. The drawer bottoms. Sides and backs are all made from solid chestnut(possibly oak)Old growth chestnut is highly sought after by wood lovers, it is virtually extinct, now being reclaimed at very high prices,these chestnut drawers that I hand rubbed a finish on, they are gorgeous. The chestnut drawers bottoms are chamfered by hand planing into the drawer sides. All of the drawers were restored, some drawer runners were replaced/restored.Notice the tiny hand carved dovetail, a fine display of the highest level of craftsmanship. The blackened hardware is new. I restored the legs and frame with.The finish was restored with many.
