Very old antique salt crockery mortar. This great piece definitely shows its age and all the use it has seen. It has a beautiful glazed patina. The crock has one chip along the edge and signs of red paint that looks to have been rubbed on it. This can be removed easily, it does scratch away. The piece measures approximately 3 5/8" tall x 5 3/4" in diameter at top and 5" diameter at bottom. This is a very heavy piece, weighing approximately 3 pounds. This piece is very solid and thick. Rare Antique Royal Purple Brand Spice Tin Turmeic Woodson-Prince Alderson,W.VA.
This very rare antique Royal Purple Brand Spice Tin Turmeric was distributed by Woodson-Prince& CO. Alderson. W.VA. and I believe it is from the early 1900's. It is heavy tin and is painted blue with a lithograph picture on the front. It has a Victorian Queen or Princess carrying a plum pudding in a bowl on a round platter. She is followed by a small boy in Victorian dress who carries her train. I think she is Royal because of her dress style. She wears a red velvet cloak and the dress underneath is very fine blue. She wears something on her head and all this is trimmed with gold. I see a chatelaine on her side. The gold areas are very sparkly when you look closely and there is a gold band around the label. It has Turmeric 2 Oz net reg. us pat. off. I have done a lot or research and I can not find another like this one. I live near ... moreAlderson and the business is no longer there and I can't find any information about it. The tin measures 3 1/2" X 2 1/4" X 1 1/4" It has slight surface rust and some minor paint loss and a couple of dents but I believe for the age it has survived well. I don't think you will find another like this one from a local rural area in W.VA. Upon further internet research I found that the old grocery distributers building from the early 1900's is now for sale by Riverbend Auction Company and it is on the Monroe county side of Alderson. Estate found.wonderful antique porcelain German spice canister jar with windmill motif. This jar held Nelken(cloves) In excellent condition with only minor gold gilt loss. What appears to be a tiny fleabite on the inside rim under the lid is a factory flaw and glazed over. The white spots on the blue transfers that appear to be paint loss are actually white enameled decoration. Measures approx. 4.5" tall x 2 5/8" across x 2 1/4" wide. 6 Antique Victorian Lion Coffee/Woolson Spice Co. advertising cards
Here are some very cool Lion Coffee advertising cards. I believe these are from the late 1800's. They do have some tears. And creasing, but considering their age they are in good condition. Please look closely at the pictures to make your own assessment of condition. One of the children singing cards seems to have been attached to other ads on the back and it has parts of other ad there. Please feel free to ask questions, and thank you for looking. Antique Spice Box & Cannisters Civil Wa Era Travel Kit
Civil War Era Traveling Tin Spice Box with 5 Spice Canisters. This type of box would have been carried in an Officer's Catina or belonged to someone of wealth. Based on its condition. This old spice box is well traveled& used. A very unusual surface finish shows considerable wear. Though you can still see some of the original decorative design on the outside of the box. Original brass handle. Hinges& unusual front curl latch. Handmade latch& construction. Soldering has worn out on 3 corners of the box allowing the side panels to pull away- but the box bottom is still strong and holding the box together. Lid himges still work but the bottom latch hook piece is long gone so the top does not stay closed if picked up by handle. Contains 5 of the original spice canisters. 2 of the 5 still retain some of their original coppery black ... morefinish and 2 are missing lids. Original finish was a copper black finish with gold accents. Overall condition is as you see in the photos& described- well used& worn. Creating a great patina that reflects its age and history. ~ Dimensions 9-1/2" x 6-1/2" x 3-1/2" See photos for additional details& judge condition for yourself. Sold"as is" rough condition.
