Early Antique Rosewood Regulator A Wall Clock by Seikosha w/ Aichi Movement
This antique runs well. It is made by Seikosha. The predecessor to the Seiko Company. I found a web site that indicated that early on they were affiliated with Ansonia, an American company and their movements were copies of the companies efforts. This one appears to be early enough to have an Aichi movement. Someone at some point placed an Ansonia paper dial over the worn Seikosha face. The key is not original to the clock or the movement but it works. The tone is nice, not too sharp and has a nice resonance. The case is in decent condition, it has some storage marks and could use a good cleaning, but the extent of the cleaning is a matter of taste so I will leave it to the customer. We are buyers. An Antique Victorian Tunbridge Ware Domed Top Rosewood Wooden Box
An early Victorian mid 19th Century Tunbridge ware box. It is of rectangular form with an attractive domed lid. The panels are in rosewood and it has been nicely inlaid in the Tunbridge style. The sides of the box feature roses and foliage in tapestry style. To the lid there is a central depiction of a ruined country manor surrounded by a repeating geometric pattern. The interior is lined in a light gold satin. The box comes with a key and tassel but these are for decorative purposes as the lock does not function and the locking tang is damaged. To the underside it has a red paper liner which may well be original At this size the box could have been used for a number of purposes and was quite possibly for documents or scrolls. The fabric is buttoned and tufted and probably replaced somewhere along the line in a light plum or dark pink brocade fabric overlay. It has beige gimp against the original solid rosewood carved frame. Which is quite stunning. Rosewood is notoriously brittle and fragile wood, so it is unusual to find a set in this condition that has not been broken up. You won’t see a set like this for a long, long time. This set doesn’t look like it’s been used very much. It has hand-carved crests on the chair backs and couch back, scrolled carved arms, carved cabriole legs, and carved skirts, and still retains its original brass casters. The set consists of an oversized sofa, a gentleman’s armchair, and a lady’s sitting chair. The overall sizes of the pieces, starting with the sofa, are 84 inches wide on the outside, 68 inches wide on the inside, 28 inches deep front to back, 41 inches at the highest point on the back, and 34 inches high in the center, the arm is 22 inches high, and the seat is 18 inches high. ANTIQUE 134 YEAR OLD JAPANESE ROSEWOOD SHAMISEN STRINGED MUSICAL INSTRUMENT
A complete vintage shamisen which I picked up at a Japanese antique auction last year. Both box and neck as well as the tuning pegs are made of some of the hardest and rarest rosewoods and ebony. Both skins will need replacing as seen in the pictures. Otherwise this shamisen is complete with all the appointments as seen. This shamisen was purchased at a dealer only auction in Kyoto and came in its original 135 year old kiriwood box. This auction is for the shamisen only. Inside the shamisen(see pictures 7& 8) Written in Japanese, is the name of the maker as well as the date: Meiji 11th year(1879) So this shamisen dates over 134 years old. I am down sizing and this is from my personal collection. The movement was cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner about 6 months ago. I also inspected it and oiled the pivots and replaced the suspension rod at that time. The clock is a very good runner and keeps time well. It gongs out the hour at the top of the hour. No half hour gong. I rhave had the clock running now for the last two weeks and it has run well. I did notice some pulley noise when it chimes, but nothing major and or out of the ordinary from a 125 year old clock. The rosewood case is in very good condition the door is tight and the hinges solid. The front glass is faded but the image of Washington is still visible. the painted tin face ... moreis 90% in tact and in very good condition. Thei nner label has some fraying to it but still reads Waterbury. The rear of the clock is stamped with CP Peabody, repairer of watches and jewelry Columbus, WI. The clock measures 24 x 14 x 4. The pendulum bob is a replacement, the key appears to be period but not necesarily original to this clock. for auction is a near mint condition outstanding antique joseph meeks stanton hall parlor set consisting of a sofa. One arm, and 2 side chairs. they are newly recovered with a gorgeous soft pink fabric that is nicely tufted. i said newly, the fabric may be a few years old but it is in new condition. i am not for sure what the fabric may be. i bought this set from a wealthy estate and it is possible that it is silk, but i can not be for sure. at any rate, it is a very fine fabric. there are no damages to the set as far as i can tell, save one of the casters on the sofa kept falling out so i put a dowel in the hole, glued it and redrilled it for the caster. other than that i know of no damage or repairs to the set. it is very sturdy with no wiggles or wobbles etc. the backs of the chairs are all nicely laminated. my pictures are not very good ... moreas the lighting where i have this set is poor. the entire set of course is pierced carved in the finest fashion. the detail on this set is as good as i have ever seen in stanton hall. the finish is wonderful, however, my pictures are dull and that is not the true state of the finish. also the color of the wood and fabric is not exact by along shot. i will take the arm chairs outside tomorrow and get some pictures in the sunlight. the room they are in is inside the middle of my house and there are no windows there. anyway, i can get some much more accurate photos of the finish and colors of the wood and fabric and should anyone care to see them i will be more than happy to send them to you. also if there is anything else you want to see close up of, please ask and i will supply them as well. the legs are nicely carved, fluted, and contoured which does not show well in the pictures, nor does the carving in the center of the front of the seat support show very well. it is i promise you a very wonderful set. i am starting it at a money back price or less. i see a three piece set on ebay for 55K and 2 side chairs for 20K. the sofa is 66 inches wide, 49 inches tall, and the seat is

I showed this to one of the experts at the Fine Art and Antique Fair at Olymia who said it was made in the late 19th Century but the timber was 18th Century. I have put hooks in it and used it for many years as a keys cabinet. 2 pieces of the arcatraving on one side are missing, which has never bothered me. Apart from that in very good condition. It is made in two pieces, the'mouth piece' has a brass connector, which slides into a brass liner in the bottom section. The instrument does not have any maker's marks or any other information stamped on it. As mentioned. The box stands on four turned bun feet and the top sporting a turned finial. Vintage Chinese Abacus Wooden Mathematical Machine Antique Chinese wooden abacus/ suanpan made by rosewood. Around 1950-60. This abacus measures 4 1/2" by 8 9/16" And 1' thickness. The corners are brass as well as the center partition supports. There is a decal on the side that is written in Chinese. Their is a tiny animal lion figure on the decal plate as well. The brand is Red Lion, which was very famously used around 1960, Wuhan city. Someone has refinished the case and did a very nice job so the wood really glows. My photos look a bit glossier than reality with the flash and dust polish. It looks beautiful in person. The face has been replaced but they did a perfect job. Hands are original. Nice rosewood rosettes! This clock has a very intricate door that can be latched closed with the wind key. Each table corner has" Bamboo Style Outline" in each of the 4 corners. When I purchased these tables in 1977. They were supposedly more than 125 years old at that time. They are all hand finished and rubbed until they had a mirror like finish which still exists today. I used only the top, larger table, with the smaller table inset and protruding about 1" for effect. I used them to display Penjing, Miniature and Dwarf Imported Bonsai Trees until I moved to Winnipeg from Montreal in 1987. I sold my entire collection before leaving, but, kept these tables. No stamps or paper labels found other than the neck block stamp of 4653(Ser. No. since Martin did not start indexing ser. nos. until#8000 it leads me to believe this is not a Martin? it is not a Lyon& Healy"Lakeside" either since definitely rosewood is used on the back and sides and Lakesides all were made out of oak wood? not a Ditson or John Church& Co. guitar either? not a Washburn Model 1915 either? I think it's European import? a Martin knock-off if you will. what's your opinion on this guitar as far as luthier who built it? note: ivory peg buttons? nice. trying to figure if this guitar is worth restoring? the rosette is unusual as well as the ... morebackstrip? horrendous condition. Best to look at photos for all the structural problems lest I leave out a discrepancy, rough as a cob with cracks, broken bridge, purfling marquetry missing, tuner strips do not match, holes, nails embedded, really rough a wall hanger at best in present condition NOT PLAYABLE as it sits now. approx. 24-1/2 inch scale; 3-1/2 inch diameter sound hole. Lower bout width is 13-1/2" upper bout width 9-1/2" did I forget to mention the soundboard has a repaired/replaced chunk? I think? overall length is 37-3/4 inches. there have been previous re-glue(if you will)jobs performed previously. note the tuner strips don't match as if one has been replaced albeit many years ago.pyramid bridge is literally split into two distinct and separate pieces. of course, the strings are no good(what's there)and some pins are missing. I have not attempted to clean, polish what have you, selling it exactly as I found it last week at an estate auction-
