The lid on the larger apple is snug but comes off with a little twist. The smaller apple lid comes off easily. The apples are part of a collection we are liquidating consisting of 9 wood apple boxes that graduate in size, as shown. For your consideration is an excellent find from an old Johnstown.Pa estate. Complete set of a late 1800's Vaporizer with the Petroleum refill bottle. This Germ destroying liquid was vaporized and used for Whooping Cough, Spasmodic Croup, Hay Fever, Sore Throat, Broncho Pneumonia, Bronchial Complication of Scarlet Fever and Measles and as an aid in the treatment of Diphtheria. Was also used in Animals: Horses and dogs and Fowls. Interesting. You can see this was hardly used. The metal plate has no rusting, the wick easily moves up and down, the glass is clear on the mini lantern. The Refill bottle was emptied. Strong smell, I am letting it air out now. I would not be able to ship in the mail system with the product in there. The boxes do show some wear, but still very displayable. This auction is for set of 4 pieces. 1900-1940 GW Globe Warnicke boxes, 1 tray and Weis Co. box. I think they are made of Oak and are very cool. Here are the#s for GW trays- GW No. 7310-C Peerless Trays, Weis is a smaller peerless tray measuring at 8 3/8" in length and 6" width.The No. 4 desk tray is 15 1/8" in length, 10 3/8" width. The weis is missing a black foot. The GW boxes are 10 1/8" long and 6 wide. One of the GW boxes is missing spring for metal inside and missing side hinge. The other GW box is in working condition. A Set of TWO Chinese Lacquer Boxes One is quite smaller than the other and has three tiered layers. This one has three places where the lacquer has chipped off due to the pieces age. GORGEOUS ANTIQUE JAPANESE LACQUERED WOOD JUBAKO Stacking Makie Storage Boxes
STUNNING ANTIQUE JAPANESE LACQUERED JUBAKO STACKING BOX Magnificent Takamakie(raised gold lacquer) Gorgeous. Hand lacquered wooden storage box representing the elegance of the Japanese aesthetic. Featuring absolutely stunning hand applied golden takamakie lacquer detail. The four tiered stacking box is covered on all sides with gold fans which are decorated with minutely detailed flying cranes, bamboo, cherry blossoms, and splashing waves, all in raised takamakie. The four storage compartments are further lined with vibrant red lacquer. Traditionally used to transport special holiday foods, today the box would be perfect for storing jewelry, office supplies, or small precious items. In excellent antique condition with very minor wear commensurate with age, we noted a very small spot or chip above one fan(see second to last photo and look ... moreclosely) The jubako is a wonderfully useful size, measuring approximately 13 1/2" high by 9" square. Would make an exquisite desktop or dresser piece. Very tasteful and elegant. A unique and skillfully crafted work of art, and an outstanding piece for the discriminating collector of Japanese antiques. See all 8 photos above left. The process of creating such boxes from hand lacquered wood required the talents of one or more highly skilled artisans as well as a considerable investment in time. It was necessary to carefully dry the wood for an entire year before being shaped. Another year of drying may have then been needed before the lacquer finish could be applied to the box form. The lacquer work would then require time to complete as multiple coats were applied and each coat must dry completely in a carefully controlled atmosphere before proceeding. Still more time was required if the box was to be decorated by a maki-e lacquer artist who would painstakingly paint the detailed and raised images. Old Antique Victorian Era Silver Metal Heart Shaped & Filigree Trinket Boxes
Up for sale is a pair of silver metal trinket boxes that date to somewhere around the late 1800's to early 1900's. The heart-shaped miniature box looks like it is silver-plated on the outside. But there are no marks anywhere to indicate that. The inside has a gold colored finish to it. It is in decent but a little tarnished condition, and the base has a small dent in the front. The lid closes tightly, so it could be used as a pill box. It measures 3" tall, 1.75" wide, and 1" in depth. The filigree box is decorated with flowers and leaves, and although it looks like it could be silver-plated, there are no marks anywhere. It is in good condition, and the lid closes tightly.
