This is a stunning one of a kind antique Chinese box. Made sometime in the 19th Century possibly even earlier. It is a hand made wooden box. For Jewelry/Dressing. The wood is a stunning exotic grain wood. I believe maybe Pear wood. With old brass applied decorations and hardware. The top has a handle for carrying. The top left side flips open and used to have a mirror on it. There are four drawers in all. The top box inside the lid has a hidden compartment in the back with a small hole. The compartment runs down the whole backside of the box. The top right drawer has a mark inside it hand written. But I can't read it. If you can please let me know. Thanks. The brass decoration and hardware is great. Hand cut in various shapes and forms. With small brass tacs holding it in place. There are two brass locks and keys for those locks as well. One is very old and has some engraving on it. It looks from the same time period and probably original to the box. The other lock and key are older but not as old as the box. It measures approx. 13" by 10" by 7" See condition below. Have fun bidding. Condition: The wood is in excellent condition. One crakc on one side. Old original finish. The brass hardware is also in very good condition. There are a few pieces missing some tacks. The top piece that locks the lid has been removed. but is still with the box. Just needs some tacks. This lot has me stumped. It does not say Singer anywhere on the items or boxes so I think they went to an older sewing machine. The ruffler is marked Pat'd Dec 31'95(for 1895) There is a ruffler. Tucker, hemmers, flennel hemmer and accessories. Each box says For The Automatic Sewing Machine but I'm not sure what that machine looks like. The hemmer is marked B. Eldredge Automatic Hemmer, Manufactured by National Sewing Machine Co. Belivedere, Ill, New York and Chicago. Same on the Flennel Hemmer. This is an early Meiji Era(c. 1870) set of five lidded stacking boxes known as kasaneju or jubako. They are made of kiln dried cryptomeria wood. With over twenty layers of black lacquer and raised gold( makie) detailing on the sides and lid. The makie(inlayed gold) hand painted art work is of a large cherry tree in full bloom. The cherry blossom in Japanese art is often compared to the fleeting glory of a young warrior. Magnificent and majestic. For only a short while. These stacking boxes were used during the Japanese week of New Year's to contian various pickled foods for guests and relatives that might stop by to wish them a"Shogatsu Omedeto! Happy New Year! Up for Auction are two vintage Tackle Lure boxes The name on the large one is Horrocks-Ibbotson.the size is 14x6 ¾. This box works great and is in good condition considering the age…The age is unknown to me…however looking up the Company on the internet I came across the below article…so it appears to be before 1929 Horrocks-Ibbotson was one of America's largest production rod companies for many years. Competing head to head with Montague and South Bend. This company that came to be known as the World's Largest Manufacturer of Fishing Tackle traces its history to 1812 but did not become involved with fishing tackle until 1863 when an English immigrant named James Horrocks was hired as a clerk. In 1894, Edward Ibbotson was hired as an errand boy. Gradually the company acquired existing tackle companies. In 1905 the company built ... morea new factory in Utica, New York and continued to grow until it was known throughout the world. The firm was incorporated in 1909 as the Horrocks-Ibbotson Co. Decals are useful for dating Horrocks-Ibbotson rods. The diamond with the UTK logo dates from 1905 until World War I. This logo is usually stamped into the reel seat. But also appears as a decal. These are not in pristine condition on the outside, but honestly, I think that lends great character to these 6 very old antique Jewelry& Button Cases. S urprisingly. The insides are all in great shape. All are covered with leather(or facsimile. Not sure how to tell) Four of them are fitted for a sets of 6 buttons each. 2 of which still have the little gold rings that held the buttons onto a garment in those days. All of the 4 that held buttons. Have push-button closures that still work perfectly. These date approx. 19th century or early 20th century. The largest one is lovely inside with rich royal blue silk and velvet. All in great shape. This one measures 9&3/4" long by 2&1/4" wide. The odd shaped 6-sided one looks to me to be ... morea tad newer. And is probably a leather-like material. Purple velvet inside probably was made to hold a watch. Here's a fine antique glass medical syringe that comes with its needle case and original outer cardboard box and the inner nickel case. Syringe measures 3" long and has a small chain to keep the two pieces together. The chain is removable. The syringe will hold up to 2 cc's. Marked as shown. The needle case has at least one needle in it that I can see. The cardboard box is stamped"Made In Germany" on the top. Overall excellent condition for the syringe. I Make Few Bucks LET'S BENEFIT TOGETHER UP FOR AUCTION: 2 VINTAGE PAPIER MACHE LACQUERED TRINKET BOXES WITH CHINESE SHARD PORCELAIN FOO DOGS FIGURES LIDS The featured lot consists of two trinket boxes that appear to be made of lacquered papier mache or possibly wood. The pieces have trapezium shape and are hand painted with floral patterns. The lids are toped with porcelain tiles with an applied knobs/handles that look like foo dogs. The porcelain pieces are most likely shard that came possibly from the sides of 19th century large vases or jars. The boxes themselves are definitely newer then the porcelain fragments. The box painted in red with black edges has sides 2 3/4" x 2 1/2" x 2 1/4" and is about 2 1/2" at the tallest points excluding the figure ... moreon the top. The other box. Finished in black,is almost as tall as the other one and the sides are about the same but they are reversed in length and it looks a bit wider but shorter. The items come in overall good condition. The lacquered parts have no cracks or broken pieces and the paints are well preserved. There might be some minor scuffs and scratches here and there. The porcelain tiles and figurines obviously show some wear as supposedly being few hundred years old. The faces of what I think are foo dogs are kind of smashed looking as they were probably cracked from sides of vases. The boxes will make a nice addition to any collection. Antique Chinese Chard Boxes
Chard boxes are made using broken pieces of ceramic bowls. Vases, and dishware. There are frequently cracks and other damage resulting from the origin of the ceramic. This box measures 5 3/4 inches long by 2 1/8 inches wide by 2 1/2 inches high. The sides and bottom are believed to be made of decorative silver and are heavily tarnished. Inside the box, as seen in photo#3, is a red wax seal placed there by the Chinese department of Antiquities and authenticating that the item is genuine and at least 100 years old. The item was purchased by my wife who was employed by the US State department Embassy in Beijing, China during and following the Tian'anmen Square incident. This and other pieces were brought back to the US by diplomatic shipment with the permission of the Chinese government.
