Condition: The map is in Very Good to Excellent condition with overall light tonal ageing. Uncolored as issued, blank on the reverse, printed on a heavy paper. It is basically as seen in the pics. Hamm, published in Philadelphia by Carey& Lea, circa 1831. This is a copper engraving, outline hand colored. It measures 10 3/8" in height. x8 3/4" in width. This is a historic map of the area surrounding the northern part of the Adriatic Sea. It shows places such as Austria, parts of Switzerland and Bavaria, Slovania, Croatia, and Bosnia Herzegovina. It shows the Greek names of the cities as well as the rivers and mountain ranges. A historic note from the internet: In ancient geography. Vindelicia is a country bounded on the south by Raetia, on the north by the Danube and the Hadrian's Limes Germanicus, on the east by the Oenus(Inn) on the west by the territory of the Helvetii. It thus corresponded to the northeast portion of Switzerland, the southeast of Baden, and the south of Württemberg and Bavaria. Its chief town was Augusta Vindelicorum(Augsburg) Its inhabitants, the Vindelici were probably Celtic(Gaulish) or Germanic, and a possible etymology of their name includes an element vind-cognate to Irish find- white" compare Ginevra) Together with the neighboring tribes they were subjugated by Tiberius in 15 BC. They have a little bit of discoloration. Probably from being handled over the years. The Bible cards and instruction sheet are included as I said and come in 2 sizes. the large one is 5.5" x 4.5" the copyright is 1887. The cartography is based on the work of(1599-1671) A German scholar who visited Persia in 1635-1639 in hopes of establishing trade with the German state of Holstein- his of his travels in the region(translated into English in 1662) makes for a fascinating snapshot of 17th century Persia. The ... moremap is wonderfully decorative with a superbly engraved"exotic" title cartouche of a Persian caravan with camels. An inset view of the fortified city of in Dagestan which was the predecessor to the modern capital city of Makhachkala. A flotilla of ships in the Caspian and charming pictorial topography and towns. The dramatic cartouche stretches more than halfway across the bottom of the map and features a caravan of Persians with their camels- note Homann's credit to Olearius in title: The view of Tarki is flanked by a Dagestani man with a fur and at right a woman in native costume: To get a sense of map detail consider that the distance from Yerevan to the top of Mt.
