Geographer and publisher who dominated English cartography in the mid-1700's along with his fellow mapmakers, and sometime collaborators, Emanuel Bowen and Thomas Kitchin. Although he is best-known for his splendid'American Atlas' which was used by both sides during the War of Independence, much of his income was derived from providing smaller decorative country maps for publications such as Salmon's'Geography' This attractive map of Turkey in Asia is one of the examples from this publication.
