THIS FLOAT WAS ACTUALLY USED IN THE COMMERCIAL FISHING INDUSTRY. GLASS FLOATS WERE REPLACED IN THE 1970'S WITH STYRO FOAM. ETC. IF YOU LOOK AT THE PICTURES CAREFULLY YOU CAN SEE WHERE THE MAKER, FUSED THE TWO FLOATS TOGETHER TO PERFORM AS ONE UNIT. THE WEBBING ENCLOSES BOTH UNITS AND HAS A LOOP AT EACH END. THE FLOATS APPEAR TO BE GREEN BUT ARE ACTUALLY CLEAR WITH A HINT OF GREEN. THESE FLOATS WERE NOT BLOWN FREEHAND, BUT WERE BLOWN IN WOOD MOLDS TO ASSURE THE MAKER OF UNIFORM SIZE. Often also chadburn, is a communications device used on a ship(or submarine) for the pilot on the bridge to order engineers in the engine room to power the vessel at a certain desired speed. There were 12 vessels. 5 of these comprising General Ubilla's Nueva Espana fleet, 6 in General Echeverz Galeones fleet, and a French vessel that accompanied the fleet back to Spain for protection. The French vessel was the only one that survived. The rest of the fleet disintegrated on the jagged coral reefs of Florida between Fort Pierce and Sebastian inlet. Over 700 lost their lives. Including General Ubilla, and 14,000,000 pesos in gold and silver scattered over the beaches and reefs a few hundred yards offshore. There was a salvage effort by the Spanish, but when their work was done a great quantity of treasure remained. To modern day treasure salvagers this is what dreams are made of. Vintage Mid-Century Nautical Wall Lamps
Working mid-century wall sconces in nautical/anchor design. The two small shades are iconic"fiberglass" laced style and put out a nice soft glow. One shade has one lace missing. Antique Brass Nautical Light Ship Lantern This is a heavy(7-1/2lb. antique brass ship lantern. It is in good condition with the exception of several dents and a bent section of the guard. Please see photos. The internal lamp part is missing but a big 22oz Yankee Candle fits inside perfectly! Candle not included. The fixture is ventilated on top and bottom. It was designed for a flame burning oil lamp originally. The patina is nice. The glass lens is in great shape. The silver colored reflector inside is also in excellent condition.
