The map is in a lovely condition. A little browned and creased but only what one would expect from so old an item. The handcolouring is most attractive, certainly old and possibly original and the whole makes a splendid decorative item with its florid calligraphy, and ornamental touches like the Strapwork Cartouche, the Galleons in the sea, and the Compass Rose. York is situated at the bottom. The map measures approx. 39cms x 29cms. With reasonable margins. The plate mark is clearly visible, and there is a centrefold as issued. It has been photographed in a mount. But to send it I shall remove it and put it in a tube. There may be small tape residue on the back where it was fixed to the mount. Priced to sell starting at 0.99p. But I trust the value of this very early county map will be realised. I will post worldwide.

The map was produced in about 1876 and came out of an Encyclopedia or Atlas. It is not a reproduction of an old map but is the original printing made for that publication. The map itself measures about 8-7/8” by 7-1/2” on paper that is about 11-1/8” by 8-5/8” It is in very good condition for a 137 year old map, with the paper being a little tan in color, which looks close to its original paper stock color. This old map would make a great addition to any Vintage/Antique Map collection. Long's Grammar School Atlas of Classical Geography Containing Ten Maps No date. London: Whittaker and Co. School atlas of the Classical world. Incuding Greece, Italy, Palestine with Syria, Asia Minor, Gallia, The Roman Empire, Assria etc. All ten maps are present, even though there are loose stubs in between some plates. Each map is a double-page spread, tipped in on guards, with hand coloured outlines. Good condition. Binding is a little loose and leather spine is rough. Back board is becoming detached. But still partially holding on. Noce gold stamped title, pages relatively clean, some minor notations by a previous owner and some small staple holes in a couple of fore edges. Generally a nice school atlas and maps are lovely!
