Unusual Vintage Danish Modern Lounge Chair in Oak Wegner Wanscher Era
A n Original Danish Modern Lounge Chair in an Unusual Light finish This chair was created circa late 1950's- 60's This chair features wide. Propeller shaped arms with fins on the underside for a wonderful sculptural feel. It has tapered stiles in the front and back legs that slant outward. It retains its original cushions which are crafted of orange vinyl on the sides and back with a predominately orange patterned fabric on the faces. The covers are zippered for easy removal and cleaning. There are no signatures or markings on the chair that I could see. The chair measures approximately 28 1/4" high at the back. 26 3/4" wide at the arms, and is 29 1/2" at its deepest. The seat alone sits 15" off the floor and is 21" by 21" Very Good condition with no breakages or repairs. The finish is original and slightly ... moreuneven in spots(see photos) not so much that would need to be refinished but It could certainly benefit from a good scrub with an oil soap and subsequent rub-down with a nice lemon oil. There is small split in the left side upright of the chair's back but it does not affect the chair's sturdiness in any way(it is also hidden from sight by the cushion) The cushions have some slight discoloration on the vinyl from sitting on the chair rails for decades. Most notably on the back cushion(see photos) there are also a few small spots on the fabric of the cushions(again see photos) reliably safe packaging and insurance are included in the shipping cost. The quality of design is clear from its shape and style and is highly reminiscent of designers like Marco Zanuso and Ico Parisi from 1950's Italy. It also has design similartities with Hans Wegner who used wooden hand rests. But is more likely to be Italian. It is beautifully made with the almost unique touch of wooden hand rests and has brass tipped feet on the elegant legs. Notice the shaping ... moreof the leg above the brass section- this is a sofa from a designer of quality and style and not just a cheap copy. There are no names or tags or clues to origin remaining on the sofa. We have searched for clues and similar items and although there are very similar works from 1950's Italy we cant find any identical piece. Asking dealers in mid-century modern they also suggest an Italian origin. The recovering was professionally redone about 6 years ago at great expense using genuine Kvadrat fabric which cost over £800. The whole sofa was over £2000 when purchased from a specialist dealer. Since then the sofa has been almost unused and was more of a decorative piece than a used item in our old house. It has been in store and unused in a spare bedroom for the last 2 years. Along the same lines as Hans Wegner's"Cigar" chair design for Getema, these beauties were also made in Denmark in the 1950s and just as well made. Unlike so many of chairs in this style that appear on Ebay. These are not a combo of woods or a generic hardwood stained to look like teak. They are each 100% SOLID TEAK throughout(sides, seat, arms and back) with removable upholstered seat and back cushions. Great looking from any viewing angle and they provide excellent comfort. Cushions are the original heavy inner spring design, so no fear of them loosing their shape verses just foam. Upholstery is a wonderful neutral oatmeal ... morecolor woven wool, so will match in any color scheme decor. Seat backs will remove so each chair can ship in its own box via UPS oversize. measurements Overall each chair measures 31.5" high by 25" wide by 29" deep. Made of solid teak and with it's original glass top it is a wonderful example of mid century modernism. Massive amount of storage space/ a middle cabinet door opens to an interior that hosts a single pull out drawer and two sturdy, adjustable height shelves. Eight drawers total, four on the left side and four on the right side both sections graduating in size. Extremely fine details including beautifully joined rounded edges. Sculpted solid teak pulls and a completely finished back side which enables use as a room divider in an open floor-plan. The credenza is in overall very good original vintage condition. The left top drawer pull seems to have been repaired and the piece does show dings and small losses/chips to wood. It also has slight scuffs. Vintage Mid Century Modern Wegner era teak lamp Kovacs Danish retro
Up for bids is a wonderful lamp fresh from a local estate. It is in great shape and has a great look. The lamp stands about 18 1/2" tall to the top of the socket. And a full 26" to the top of the harp. The cord and plug are in fine shape. The body of the lamp has a graceful taper, starting at a diameter of 3 7/8" at the base and widening to about 5" at the shoulder. The wood has a few scattered dings like the one pictured.
