Antique Folding Rocking Chair, by Edward Vaill of Worchester, Mass 1876
This is a fantastic condition antique folding rocking chair. The chair is all its original wood and the hinges and hardware are all in tact. Even the label on the back is in fantastic condition. And reads Edward W. Vial, Patented in July, 1876. It has a floral pattern in the seat and backrest, which has a few signs of wear, but in great condition considering its age. This char is very comfortable, and actually quite small. It measures 34 inches tall, 24 inches from the front of the rockers to the back, and 18 inches across. This piece is very cool, a perfect addition to any home!

Scratches, a small little hole on the cushion in the back on the seat, but you can barely see it. It has 2 cracks on the seat over the swivel pin. We put wood glue and fixed it. Invention of First Folding Rocking Chair in U. S. How much room would a rocking chair take in a covered wagon? Plenty. When space was of great necessity. How about a Collignon folding rocking chair? How much room would that take? Very little, because folded it was in the shape of a quarter moon. Nicholas, Claudius, and Adam Collignon invented the folding rocking chair March 10, 1868. There were many other variations invented. Regular folding, deck, lawn, and variations of these. The whole town of Westwood New Jersey, now River Vale) in Bergen county, worked at the factory on the Hackensack river. I do not know the age. It was made by Albert M. Lock& Son, Inc. in Boston, MA. This chair was donated to the Escapees CARE center to help raise funds for its residents. Antique Child's Folding Rocking Chair...Rare Find
In researching this piece. It seems that it is indeed a rare find antique. I am positive that it is a“Collignon” child’s folding rocking chair. However the manufacturer’s patent stamp(at the back of the seat’s base/per pic) has been worn away on this one. There was an exact model as mine(frame only without caned seat) that was previously sold here on Ebay. The“Collignon” manufacturer’s stamp info on that one said that it was patent in 1868 through 1869 so my assumption is that this one was also. My Mother had this re-caned approximately 30 years ago. If this little rocking chair could talk, it would have much history to tell due to the wear on the bottom of the runners. Some child/children loved to sit/rock in this chair. There does not seem to be any repairs made to the frame and looks to have its original fasteners. The chair does have ... morea few dings in the frame(per pics) but I think it is in great condition considering the use(wear-n-tear) and its possible age of 145 years give or take. This is a lovely Antique Oak Folding Rocking Chair. It is an excellent piece of historical ingenuity. How creative someone was to have a rocking chair that in a matter of seconds will unfold and be completely usable or fold up for storage in a small space. Perhaps it was used by a nanny. An elderly person, or someone nursing a baby. This antique rocker is in excellent condition and could be used immediately by someone wishing to have instant comfort. It is petite in size as it is unique. The fabric seems to be the'old carpetbag' material, it is one piece that is laid between the rungs of the chair and attached with tacks. It is three-dimensional on the top, but flat on the back. The fabric is attached at the top and bottom but is flexible to adjust to the person whom is sitting upon it. At the top headpiece of the chair there is some ... moreveneer of another wood in place for decorative purposes. Through the years this veneer has had some minor rubbing/chipping but still looks great. please look at pictures) The chairs is put together with steel supports and rivets that allow the chair to be folded- then opened. Additionally. There are some decorative wood pieces added to the sides of the chair that add more character to the piece. There are a few dents and dings as well as a couple paint spots on the oak. However this does not take away from its integrity or unique qualities and is commensurate with a piece of this age. When opened the chair is about 33 inches tall. 18 1/2 inches wide, and 33 inches deep. When folded the chair measures about 40 inches long. 18 1/2 inches wide, and about 10 inches thic k. There is one piece of wood that is rubbed and dented but must have been done years ago because it is smooth and finished. For sale is an older folding rocking chair. It's very nice and unique looking. The embroidered tapestry seat looks original to the chair. It folds up and down easily and rocks like it should. It's light weight so it can be carried around with ease. It measures about 34 inches tall and back rest is 17 inches across. Chair could be from the late 1800s or early 1900s. I couldn't find another chair like this one. So it's definitely a collectors piece. I did noticed two screws thru the front wood bar everything else looks original. Antique folding rocking chair with maple leaf embroidered upholstery and very nice dark wood patina. This folding rocker only weighs 12-13 pounds and is real wood construction with a rose and leaf carved detail and foam padded maple leaf themed upholstery. I do not know when. Where, or who made it but it functions properly and is easily stored in a narrow space until needed as an extra seat. It is a very handy rocking chair! The finish is very nice and does show wear and use marks and scratches from normal use. The last three photos show where the seat bottom has separated on the bottom left edge on the underside. This is not a problem unless a heavier person might sit on this rocker. Also there is a 5-6" tear on the rear seat edge where to upholsery edge is finished with a piece of trim. Rare Antique Adjustable Folding Rocking Chair"PATD FEB 18 1873" I think this may be an'A. Russell Folding Rocking Chair' but I am not 100% sure. The marking on says"PATD FEB 18 1873" There is black fabric tape that is wrapped around the locking mechanism to keep it in place and the chair appears to have been repaired at one point(see second to last photo) The chair is covered in some sort of soft fabric that has been covered with fabric paint. I have been using this chair in my home office for years but don't have room for it anymore.

Legs rock fine~ Lovely decor piece. This antique folding rocking chair is very solid. It is aged. As shown and needs some minor restoration- This antique folding rocker dates early 20th Century and is very old. Please LOOK at ALL Photos~ The chair sits 33½" inches tall and 18 inches across back, and rocker legs from front to back are 27½" inches long. The seat measures about 13½" wide and 14½" long. This chair weighs 14 lbs. Completely Folded this chair measures 40" long by 18" wide and about 10" high. Please READ description. Offered as is- as shown.
