Probably c. 1880-1910, France Item# 120012WIU03 This ... moreis a remarkable and precise work. A heavily and tastefully carved Louis XV Wingback Antique Arm Chair of the Rococo Revival period. This is a piece that was built to last with strong and heavy construction throughout. The crest is an ornate and complicated carving of flowing ribbon tied in a double-bow and interlaced with flowers that sprout over and along the frame, likewise carved carefully with a large twisted rope molding lined by a small twisted rope border. The arms flow down into curved handholds, the arm supports terminating in the frame with acanthus leaves sprouting up along the edges. These arms flank a deep and very comfortable down upholstered cushion, thick and very supportive, complimenting the overall cant of the chair- by leaning just slightly backwards. This is a simply wonderful chair to rest and lounge in. The apron is an intense display of flowers along a vine, acanthus leaves sprouting from beneath the cushion to peak out over the edge. The chair rests over cabriole front legs with intense multi-dimension floral carvings along the knees, flowing into scrolled french toes. This is a simply gorgeous french arm chair for anyone passionate about the Louis XV design! Impeccably carved throughout the entire frame. Constructed with a strength and sturdiness to the build that is atypical of this design, and ultimately very comfortable and enjoyable to lounge in, this is the perfect selection for your living room or sitting area. This beauitful machine woven tapestry panel was made to upholster the back. Seat and arms of a Louis xv chair. It measures 61" x 29.5" 156 cm x 74.5cm) The floral center cartouche consists of rose. Pink, peach tones, greens, gold, and ecru colours. Each arm motif measures 6" x 2" 14cm x 5cm) The back design measures 11.5" x 11.5" 29cm x 29cm) The seat design measures 16.5" x 16.5" 42cm x 42cm) The background colour around the floral cartouches is a warm beige or medium ecru. There is a gray soil mark right at the fold(photo 5) and a water stain at one corner(photo 8) but these would be hidden in the upholstering. Never used-from France. 1950s. For sale is a good quality upholstered chair in a French style. Known as a Fauteuil. There are two available and this auction is for one only. They were manufactured by Century Furniture Company in Hickory, North Carolina. $200.00 is for the one chair. Please contact me for purchasing both. The finished is a lighter solid hardwood with a white wash. The upholstery is a neutral taupe-rose with a cockle shell motif. Typical for French design. I am open to all offers. I would like a local pick up ideally and I will deliver anywhere in the Bay Area for a nominal fee. I will also help the purchaser if they want to instruct me with packing and shipping. Original Antique 18th c French Louis XV Period Chair A fine. Antique 18th century, Louis XV armchair. This is a true period, 18th century French chair. As the caning needs to be redone, one has to use a bit of imagination to vision how beautiful it will be when properly finished. The back needs to be recanted and at some point in its history; the seat was added. However, the caning holes are still present and one could have the seat recaned as well or the seat and cushion could be reupholstered. However, the red velvet of the current cushion is still in very good condition if the new owner chose only to recant the back. Now on to the good stuff: The chair is excellently carved. One can see by the depth of the carving of the scrolling. The flowers at the chair rail, armrests and feet that a master carvers hand's were at work. The caning ... moreof the back still has its original wood pegs. Also, the chair was painted, circa 1950s, the celadon color. The color has patina at several points and it would look great if the color were left and the caning were replaced. It would look splendid and show the proper age that it has. As is the case with antique furniture. The underside of the seat supports are all rough cut wood and it has its original wooden joint pegs. It was not bothered to sand the underside of the chair's wood and this was a common practice with 18th century carpentry. Only what was visible was properly sanded. There is a chip to the front inner edge of the left armrest. Don't let the broken cane obstruct the beauty of this chair. A fine 18th century original; structurally in good condition. One could only replace the caning and have a beauty of a chair. Measurements: Seat height(not including cushion height) 15.7 inches.
