Antique Signed Lawyers High Back Desk Chair Steampunk Machine Age Bankers Office
For your consideration is a very nice quartersawn oak desk chair. The chair was made by"JOHNSON CHAIR CO. CHICAGO" and has patent dates ranging from 1887-1895. The back spindles and turned arm supports are great. The carved arms are fantastic. The chair has been beautifully refinished and has a rare hand tied cane seat. Most of the cane seats you see today are a factory made piece that is held in place by a spline wedged into a groove. At some time in the chairs history when the original cane seat wore out an applied seat was fastened to the seat, as can be seen in the photos. The cast iron hardware retains much of the original black paint and has no breaks or damage. The chair is solid and adjust in seat height from 20" 26" and the back 49" tall at the highest setting. As is typical of these chairs at the higher ... moresettings there is play in the threaded adjustment. Overall the chair is 24" wide x 24" deep. The ball bearing casters are new and operate freely. The chair has been cleaned and given a hand rubbed wax finish, the wood feels silky smooth! The chair is estate fresh and in my opinion it has it all, don't be sorry and let it get away. Vintage Bankers Chair made by the BL Marble Co.This chair has had no restoration and is in beautiful shape even with the wear. The wood is a wonderful warm golden color. There is wear on the arms as seen in the photos and there is a social security number scratched into the finish on the back of a front leg. This was a practice that some people did decades ago to easily identify stolen property that might have shown up in a pawn shop. We have not researched the number. This is a vintage executive chair made by Leathercraft. It was found last Summer in the estate of an elderly banker. I was told that when he retired they let him keep his chair. It has been in our home as a decorator piece for about 6 months(We are smokers so please note) I don't know much about vintage furniture. I did some internet research on Leathercraft& their new chairs cost up to $4000 depending on color. Details, etc. It stands 40" tall from the floor to the top of the back. The seating area between the arms is about 19 1/2" It does have wear& damage on edges& corners. Someone(not me) put the metal protectors on the back& they are not even. I'm not sure if the roller wheels are original but they are the wheels I got with it. Hi. You are bidding on one very unusual chair. I looked for hours trying to id this chair. From what I can tell it may be an old bank teller chair or some other work chair. Well built. No makers mark that I can find. I count a total of 7 old flat head screws used on the chair. Its still in great usable shape. I can ship it in a large box. In my experience of shipping items like this, I figure it will cost around $50.00 so keep that in mind when bidding. It is a really neat chair. This antique chair has it all with easy to roll caster wheels where it both swivels and is designed to lean back. The detail wood work on the chair exceeds typical designs indicating that this was considered an exceptional piece in its day that was probably used by an executive or in another position of honor as shown in the photos. The back of the chair rest is cane and the entire seat is also made out of cane which you typically find cane only used as an insert in the finer pieces of furniture. This chair is solid to sit in and tilts back. There is some wear. Some minor chips and stains. The leather back has some tears. Is original with the tacks. You can replace the leather. The 4 castors all work. The seat is 19" wide by 16" deep. The top of the back is 32" from the floor. It is 23" wide from outside arms. It was found wearing tacky new casters but those have been replaced with better, smooth, and more age appropriate casters compatible with this kind of furniture. Look how it sits proudly. As if anticipating a hard earned driver's license. If you are concerned about the size of this chair(32"H x 23"W x 19"D) do not worry as many different people tried this chair and found it remarkably comfy. Handbanino did and having a small frame I thought this chair would be too big but I almost decided to keep it as my main chair. Actually I would probably suggest buying it before I change my mind.
