Fabulous. Contrasting stain, furniture header. These are far more rare to find than even stained pieces. May be from antique cabinet or dresser mirror. The bottom edge is deeply bevelled with triple horizontal grooves directly above. Further up is sawtooth trim with inscribed center piece. Going up further is cornice trim that goes all the way across the front and around each corner. At each end are matching Eastlake? flower/pinwheel medallions. Giant matching flower/pinwheel in the center. Directly left and right of center are contoured, raised, bevelled panels. Hanging wire already mounted in back, along with felt pads to protect wall. There is no lid that lifts up, this was designed as a writing desk, dating back to the quill pen days. There is an age shrinkage split in the top which I chose not to restore. It gives great character to this lovely piece. The drawer locks are missing.I restored all the drawers, carefully taking them all apart and regluing them all and now they are rock solid and slide excellently. Full depth drawers with lots of storage.The desk is finished on all sides, allowing it to be placed anywhere in a room. The recessed flat panel sides are a great design. Adding to the beauty. I purposefully left some character marks remain in this desk such as tiny chip of wood,left top edge) pinholes etc, they give this desk awesome character, I was not trying to create a reproduction piece I try and respect the antique with all of its age, history and character. Including the key hole covers are original.As you can see the hardware is the icing on this cake! The original drawer locks are all in place and in excellent working order using the beautiful key I had made.The top of the dresser has incredible patina and some of the finest grain figuring you will see.The top is first class all the way. All of the drawers were totally rebuilt and slide like silk. The drawers feature the sought after dovetail joinery. I restored the finish all by hand using a custom rich stain to achieve the highlighted rich burgundy followed by many. This is a"bonnet top" dresser meaning the top two drawers protrude and overhand the lower level drawers. The sides have great architectural design with the paneled construction.Like any fine antique. The posts which hold the drawer handle in place are brass plated steel, some of the plating has worn off after 135 plus years.The photos show casters in the legs, they will not be included.I find they tend to split the legs.There is a knot depression on the upper left side(see photo) I think it adds character and figuring just like the top of the dresser. Matching pair of salvaged. 2 sided, antique brackets. They have pierced, bevelled carving with incised carving. Their ends are nicely contoured with ornately carved medallions above. The wood is walnut. Each one measures approx. 14 inches by 5 1/8 inches. They are almost 2 inches thick. If a smaller corbel/bracket is desired, their length can be cut in half VERY easily. Vintage Cut Glass and Brass Door Furniture/Knobs; Probably Victorian
Some beautiful Victorian style door furniture. I have four different knobs for doors of cabinets and room doors. The brass one. In picture five, has a small screw on it for a attachment(in the picture it is attached to a cork) The others are all glass with flat cut triangles, probably cut on a lapidary wheel. The knob in the second picture is the largest, measuring approximately 4 cm in diameter, it attaches by a screw glued into the glass. The knob in the third picture measures about 3.5 cm in diameter. It has a fluted neck attached to a brass fitting and can be used to open a door. The knob in the picture four is attached to a bolt which used to hold the knob tight. This also measure about 3.5 cm diameter but is not the same shape as the others. As usual with items of this age all parts look as though they have been hand made. The door ... morefurniture is in very good condition. Although the knob in picture two has a few tiny chips on the cut glass. The door furniture weighs about 450 grams. I have three of these dishes and will be pleased to offer a 5% reduction(on auction bid) if two or more are purchased together. The approximate height of the Pitcher is 26 cm. Up for consideration is a very nice victorian trunk. It has a working lock and key. The left lattch. Or hasp, is missing but still closes securely with lock. All hardware and wood has been lightly sanded then sealed with a satin finish for protection. New leather handles were put on. It is a nice trunk that is sturdy.
