It is at the base of the one arm and it is common to have a problem there as the veneer wants to buckle when they steam form them in to place. It usually blisters and cracks there. If you are going to strip it and take it back to the original blonde finish you'll need to replace it with the natural plywood veneer strip. If you are going to repaint it you just paint over top. Fill it with wood filler or just patch it in with any veneer strip you can find. It sets very comfortable. Fantastic streamline steno desk chair from one of the better American chair makers Sturgis. The ads I have seen for this model are from 1953 but I found the design patent for the base dated 1941. Swivels. Rolls on casters, adjusts in height and has a tilt seat function with variable tension. This has the chunkiest metal rolling base of any office chair that I know of. Chair base is formed of welded steel as is the frame which is stripped bare waxed steel in nearly all exposed places and shows the brass welds. Base has chrome or stainless steel accent trim. Original upholstery is a very dark green- nearly black with black piping on the seat. Sturdy item that does everything it is supposed to. More rare than Shaw Walker or Steelcase secretary chairs or goodform by General Fireproofing. Would go nicely with a bare metal simmons desk. Total height is 25" The seat height is 14" and about 11" deep. It's 14" wide. I really like this chair. It's very sturdy. I believe it's from the 1950-60's. Well made with a dark colored oak wood. It folds effortlessly. Part of a manufacturer label is on the back. But mostly worn off. I applied a clear coat to the chair to keep the wood from drying out. Vintage Solid original Oak Chair in very good condition. Six(6) slat back. Small wood buttons on curved supports on each side of the chair. Stretchers intact for this solid sturdy mid century chair. Made in America. But I could not locate a makers tag. 34.5" inches chair height 18 1/4" inches seat width 16" inches seat depth 18" inches from seat to floor The chair is solid and has not been repaired. Refinished and does not wobble. I have included extra photos of the chair seat to show the minor scratches on the chair sides. I have not cleaned or polished the chair. I have lots of Mid Century and industrial stuff listed and more on the way including more UHL stools. This is a nice old one it does work the back pivots as well as adjusts up and down from 39 3/4 down to 29 inches. The seat adjusts also from 25 3/4 to 17 3/4. It has normal wear but the wood seat and back could be refinished if you wanted to but it has lots of character.

Thanks for your interest. This 1940s 50s office chair has some scratches to the metal and small flaws to the upholstery but is very nice and clean and presentable. The base is still pretty shiny. Picture#5 shows a little rubber nub that's missing. Pics#7.8 and 9 show a little burn hole in the seat,a rub to the edge of the back and wear to the back edge corner of the seat.
