It has Serpent/Birds on the top a Carved Crest on the back and Heads craved where the arms meet the back. It is 27" wide at the arms and 56" high. I have taken picture of the damage. This is a show stopper! Just a super fine example of a rare model throne chair in carved walnut. Sweet chair and massive. It measures 55" tall, 29" wide, 25" deep and 18" seat height. Literally carved everywhere and it makes for a beautiful piece. Believed to be Robert Mitchell of Cincinnati, Ohio. Love the pierced carved spear shaped finials and pierced carved back. It's in original finish and we have cleaned it and is near perfect condition, any loose joints have been glued and then freshly upholstered in a heavy rich gold and red Chanel fabric. I gave up as it became futile. What I can tell you about the chairs. The chairs are solid wood& hand carved. I am unsure of the wood. The chairs appear to be from around the mid to late 1800's. During this time period generally mahogany was used. But I cannot verify the wood. The black material appears to be leather. Dating of the chair came from the springs- thick/heavy. I do not know if the leather is the original material. The style of the chair leads me to believe it came from Europe. These are generally what is called a throne chair. The story goes that they were placed in front of the fire with a matching footrest(not available) in the drafty castle to stay warm. Concerns: Obviously there are concerns with the chairs. I was not able to capture all concerns in the pictures- not enough picture space on ebay. The main concerns are the cracks demonstrated throughout the pictures. There are cracks in the chairs that have been repaired(you can see the glue/cracks in areas) I did not do any repairing-

PLEASE READ COMPLETE DESCRIPTION and look CLOSELY at pictures! This auction is for one chair as shown in the pictures. Chairs in the background are not included in this sale. This is a chair you don't see everyday. We have gone to auctions since we were kids and now run an auction house with weekly auctions and this chair. One of 4, is the first we have come across. Believe it came from a local masonic lodge and was removed after the building was sold. Have seen these called"presider" or"throne" chairs. It is sort of Gothis or Medieval looking to me. Of the 4 we have this one stands second from the tallest at 6 feet to the top of the center finial. About 27" across the arms. Back panel is about 25" wide at the widest point. Appears to be made of solid oak with leather cushion covering. Cushions appear to ... morebe stuffed with horse hair or similar material with coil springs and heavy straps that look like burlap, with a fabric cover over the bottom. This chair will need some restoration work but is fairly solid. One finial has broken dowels and a piece of the trim around it is missing, and there are small chips to edges and corners here and there. There are also some broken pieces at the bottom front of the seat(see picture) probably from the users feet coming back and hitting the little protrusions. Being sold PICKUP ONLY. Would also really like the buyer to look at it in person and or ask any questions before bidding. I personally don't feel 12 pictures is enough for something like this. If a potential buyer would like to discuss having this shipped we would be willing to discuss it BEFORE you bid on it. Personally have no clue as how to go about shipping something like this. All of the nails(including the very large one with the square nut pictured in photo#9) have all handmade heads. Has a black finish which appears to be the original finish. Has these unique finger hooks on the top in the back(see photo#4) Your fingers fit perfectly under them so that you can lift the back and roll it on the front casters. This piece is in really good shape for its age. The wood has finish rubbed off in spots throughout and the chair may need some slight tightening. But tight for the most part and certainly sturdy enough to use. ... moreIn photo#3, you can see a small, round, clear spot on the seat. In photo#9, there is a large bolt head showing in the back of the chair by the seat and the end& nut show on the bottom.it's not like that on the other side. It appears to be hand planed and DEFINITELY hand carved. The black fabric on the bottom is newer and without removing it. I'm not sure what's underneath, but in pulling the sides back a bit, all of the nails are hand made& old. Other than the staples holding on that back fabric, all of the hardware is 19th century. I believe that it had been reupholstered at some point due to original nail holes around the current edges of the fabric. It sounds like it is filled with some straw and under the black bottom fabric, there is what looks like a potato sack type of material. So, I'm thinking that if it were reupholstered, it was done a long time ago. There are nicks and paint missing throughout from use. The overall presence of this piece in the room is just awesome. A wonderful miniature made by C ornelius Saunders& Frank Shepherd. London in the form of the Royal Coronation Throne of Edward VII. Crisply struck to the underside with full British hallmarks; Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders and James Francis Hollings Shepherd(more commonly referenced as Saunders& Shepherd) have been recorded as respected makers particularly as miniaturists. Set with four seated lions to each corner and oak like board to the back this is silver realism circa 1902! Nice piece it does sit a little crooked. Victorian quarter-sawn oak double griffin throne chair. Rebuilt and restored by Wood's Restoration, 1809 E Franklin Street, in Richmond VA 804.782.9383. Stripped and re-finish in lacquer.It was in pieces when purchased[and missing wood in a few places] it has been restored to almost like-new condition.
