Antique Eastlake-Style Walnut and Brocade Slipper Chair, circa 1870
This lovely antique American slipper chair features detailed carving on crest and apron. With inlays of burl for accent. It dates to the 1870s, and is of classic Eastlake design. The rich walnut wood highlights the mellow cream, rust and gold hues of the brocade upholstery. The back is 42" high; the seat is 15" high and 20" wide. The original small metal wheels are functional on the gracefully curved front legs; the arched rear legs do not have wheels by design. Overall condition is excellent, with very small wear marks on one leg and the front apron. The upholstery is in perfect condition; this piece was reupholstered professionally about 50 years ago and has always been carefully handled and protected from sunlight. It was appraised by an Accredited Senior Appraiser(American Society of Appraisers) in 1997 at $900.

We are pleased to offer this beautiful antique chair. The chair dates to the late 19th or early 20th century and has been restored. The chair features carved wood frame with French. Louis XVI details. The chair has an ornate back with acanthus scrolls and flower medallion all in raised relief. The chair has sleek, curved arms with wide, paw like arm rests. The back legs are straight and nondescript. The front legs have cabriole lines and large paw/claw feet with nice details. The front legs are on metal casters. The frame has been painted at some point(not by us) and the paint does have a"milk paint" look to it. The painting has been expertly done with a beautiful color palette which is neutral but very striking. The colors of paint are a very light coffee/cream tan with a darker, chocolate brown as contrast. The flowers in the ... morecenter back have a blue tone to them. The fabric has also been replaced at some point. A patterned and textured, dupioni silk has been used on the seat. It features a cream or light tan back ground with a raised, geometric pattern. The raised pattern has colors of dark chocolate, golden tan and medium golden brown. The fabric is accented with a decorative trim. The chair is quite beautiful. It has a lower profile(slipper style) and was probably a ladies salon or parlor chair. It is in very good condition and it is very strong and sturdy. There is one small area of surface fraying to the silk in the front of the chair(picture 11) It has not affected the body of the fabric and there are no holes. The fabric is slightly nubby in dupioni fashion. The chair is old and the age is evidenced by the dowels that attach the parts together. The chair measures 31.5" tall. This(late-1900's) little antique slipper chair was bought home with a worn but lovely Chinese Silk seatcover. It was immediately upholstered and was a part of our family for about 15 years and then relegated to the basement in the late 1960's. It has been there ever since. The photos show the dismantling. This week, of the chair cushion from start to finish when only the bare bones of the chair remains. I do not know what kind of wood it is. It looks to be painted black. I have the original springs which I would give with the chair if you were interested.The legs are 12 inches from the floor. It is 19 inches wide, 17 inches front to back and 26 inches in height. The back of the chair has exquisite detail.5 carved circular spindles with a wooden frame holding them, a large panel that looks like it might have been an Asian scene and ... more2 carved panels on either side of that. Then underneath is another set of 3 larger spindles framed again. The front of the chair, below the cushion are 5 framed spindles and can be seen in photos 4& 5. In both back corners of the chair are 2 braces to keep the chair firm and steady. These braces are of wood and would only fit this particular chair. There's a lot of flaws i.e. tack holes, worn spots ets. but the basic lines and ornamental arrangement are wonderful. If you're looking for an amazing piece to spark up a room or an addition to upholster or perhaps a piece to refinish and bring back to life this is a beautiful little work of art.

Victorian empire transitional balloon back slipper chairs parlor chair suite set
Victorian balloon back chairs from the 18 sixty's or early 1870s era these are walnuts and in extremely good condition they do have old finish. These are upholstered in blue I also have a set that is in a greenish material that matches these both are being sold in sets of 2. The last pic shows them with one of the green chairs so you can see they match perfectly if interested in both sets. Both chairs have no breaks and are extremely tight with no visible repairs. They do have some scuffing and wear to the finish as you can see in the photos.
