Mahogany itself is a rich reddish brown wood that can range from being plain in appearance to something that is so vibrant. Figured and almost three dimensional in effect. Although Mahogany was most often used in its solid form. It also provided some beautifully figured varieties of veneer like‘Flame’ Mahogany and‘Fiddleback’ Mahogany(named after its preferred use in the manufacture of fine musical instruments) Cuban Mahogany was so sought after. Beautiful Vintage 1940's Duncan Phyfe Inlaid(Banded) Mahogany Shield Back Chairs- Set of 6- Two Arm and Four Side Chairs. Double Pedestal Formal Dining Table w/and Leather Pads-Selling Separately. These were my parents. Purchased in the 1940's from a fine furniture shop on Park Avenue in NYC, along with Dining Table. Chair Set includes 4 side chairs and 2 arm chairs-all of which are shield back. Furniture is in PRISTINE condition for its age. Fabric on chairs is not original, and had been recovered in the late 1980's with an off-white quilted fabric, with the exception of a few minor soil marks) chair pads are in MINT condition. It is a wonderful set of six that we have stripped. Sanded, stained and applied multiple coats of s atin sheen lacquer all after we have glued and tightened up the chairs. The seats have been all reupholstered with.75 inch foam cushion so that you can enjoy your gatherings around the Thanksgiving holiday table. The chairs have a five finger hold splat back. A shield back design, carved front spade foot legs, a solid H mahogany cross stretcher and are in excellent ready to go condition. The set consists of five side chairs and one arm chair. The arm chair is 21 inches wide across the cushion, 18 inches deep, 22 inches wide across the arms, 41 inches high to the back, 27 inches high to the arm and 19.5 inches high to the seat. The side chairs are 19 inches wide, 16 inches deep, 40 inches high to the back and 19.5 inches high to the seat. The overall condition is good. You can see where one back was repaired a long time ago. For Sale is a set of 6 particularly nice traditional mahogany finish shield back dining chairs. Including TWO captains chairs(with arms) and FOUR mates chairs Made in the USA c 1930 with elements of Hepplewhite style Note that these chairs are unusually nice for several reasons. But particularly because unlike most chairs from that era these chairs have flat springs for support rather that just a board with some padding(they are really comfortable) AND because the upholstery is really attractive and appropriate Size: the two captains chairs are 38 inches high to the top of the back and the seat height is 18 inches to the top of the front rail(the seat puffs up about an inch above that) And the four mates chairs are 37 inches high to the top of the back and the seat height to he top of the front rail is also 18 inches; the seat dimensions ... moreare nominally 23 inches by 18 inches, with the captains chairs being a tiny bit larger and the mates chairs being a tiny bit smaller Condition: these chairs are in very good shape structurally. Unfortunately these chairs have been reupholstered in their past so any label has sadly been removed. Each chair is incredibly solid and mahogany and has a nice patina. There is a nice inlaid outline on the front legs. You will want to change the fabric as this is beyond salvage. I can find no lose wood or cracks. They are in amazing condition. Age Although we do not know the precise age of the chair we do believe them to be vintage. A piece of old tag reading. Do Not Remove This Tag Under Penalty of Law" is still attached to one of the armchairs dates listed on the tag are from the 1920's.
