PAIR of Anglo-Irish Decanters Diamond & Panel Cutting Swirls Amazing Cutting!
Early 19th Century Anglo-Irish Cut Glass Decanters Nice decanters with absolutely amazing cutting. Starts at top with hollow diamonds and flows into twisted panel cuts. Then there is a wide band of diamond cutting with what looks like squares cut into the tops of those. And below that a series of arches in relief with an inset flute. Very cool looking pieces. Bases have a paneled star cut into them. The most serious flaw is that both necks have some pieces knocked out of them- 1 in the first and 2 smaller mars in the second. Also no stoppers. No cracks or repairs. Some very small impact dings in pattern here and there- commensurate with age and wear. Some minor residue present on inside bottom but can be polished out. I believe this has been wood wheel polished. These are such great examples of early cutting that I had to put them up, damage ... moreand all. Very refractive glass though it's hard to tell from pictures. They measure about 9.5" high and 3.75" across the widest part of the shoulders.

The vases are in a very good condition for age, one just having what seems to be a small star crack to bowl, however this cannot be felt so could be on inner case,the other has a mark in a similar area. Neither mark will be noticed when on display. There are some typical variations in colour around the top of one vase as can be expected for items of this age. Both measure 15 cms tall. A stunning pair of large Victorian/ Edwardian ruby glass candle lustres with cut crystal prismatic droplets. Of baluster form with frilled edge rims and with serpents coiled around the stems. Ruby flash glass with hand-painted gilding gilt floral decoration. Each measures 37cm(14 1/2" high. Good condition. Each vase is drilled for 8 hanging droplets. However four are missing on each vase(these could, of course, be replaced) There is also general wear to the gilding and a small crack at the back of one from one of the drilled droplet holes, probably originating from the time of manufacture. They stand about 4" tall. Recently acquired in a large lot of Steinbach ornaments/figures. This style was produced in the mid to late 1970's. Some natural age yellowing in the varnish on the Doctor's white painted legs is noted, otherwise in very good condition. No missing parts, etc. Out of production and no longer made. This is a really beautiful pair of victorian blue glass vases decorated with gold leaf. They are shaped like a jardinier and stand and are 9 1/2" tall. They are in lovely condition apart from a small chip at the top of one vase. They are too delicate to post and are offered for sale in the UK only for buyer to collect. Perfect pair of Niloak Misson Swirl Candlesticks. Which are very rare! I am selling these for my grandpa. He said that they have owned them for years and is not sure when they were purchased. From what I have found on-line they are from they 1910-1920's hand thrown art pottery with the colors coming from the clay. They are so beautiful! The candlesticks are approx. 10" tall(One is actually 9 3/4" tall and the other is 10 1/8" tall) they are both approx. 6" base diameter. The slightly shorter one is marked into the clay"Niloak" on the underside. They also have some pencil or some sort of marking on the underside were they were being sold for 450 each with a persons intials. They would make a stunning addition to someone's collection. Pliocene Horse, Astragalus & Molar, South Dakota, Nice Fossil Pair !!
The 2 Pliocene horse fossils in this auction are nice representative specimens from the Badlands of South Dakota. The Pliocene is the epoch between 2& 5 million yrs ago. This astragalus(ankle bone) is in excellent condition and is smooth and solid. It's a beauty! This tooth is somewhat smaller than Equus but much larger than Mesohippus and I believe somewhat larger than Merychippus. It is 1-3/4" long and 7/8" wide and 7/16' thick. The comparative size and certain dating of these fossils suggests strongly that they belonged to one or another species of Pliohippus although a later version of Merychippus is possible. Horse evolution is kind of confusing. Mesohippus was Oligocene 3 toed horse and was approximately the size of a collie. It ran with deer-like leaps as its back legs were longer than its front legs. Miohippus ... morefollowed next and was larger and more horse-like. It eventually split into 4 principal groups some of which migrated to Asia/Europe. Also from that split. There were unusual evolutionary attempts such as Megahippus, standing 5 ft tall, 12 ft long and weighing 4,000 lbs. The 4th evolutionary path(called Progressives) included Merychippus. A Miocene- early Pliocene horse that stood 40 inches high. i.e. like a Shetland pony. Development of high crowned teeth that kept growing enabled Merychippus to give up browsing and eat grass. Eyes, legs and hooves further evolved to enable successful life in the praire and on the plains. Next to appear was Pliohippus. Of early to middle Pliocene, who was the first one-toed horse.
