These were HAND-BUILT in South Africa in the late 1950’s. They are fascinating pieces of furniture and drew me in immediately. They are a design that is never seen but the leanness of the styling and the sweeping lines pay homage to the Danish creations happening at the same time. I bought these chairs from the original owners. These chairs were passed onto one of the sons in the family. He was in his 40's(great guy by the way) and he recalls these being there his ... morewhole life. He remembers growing up with them in South Africa. How they came with the family to Melbourne and when they were passed onto him as an adult. This transaction has showed me first-hand how good design is timeless. Trends come and go. By the time his family moved to Australia in the 1980’s fashions had certainly changed however their lounge suite was so loved they shipped it half way across the world- an expensive exercise back then. This lounge has lasted the family 50 years- my guess is they had the money to update their furniture at any time but if you have something you love, what’s the point? We don’t need to subscribe to the throw-away mentality and these chairs symbolise how things can be if that's what we choose. It was as if this guy was losing his right arm. Pair of swiveling club chairs purchased new in the early 60's with one continuous owner. These are commercial grade chairs made for lounges and bars but these were ordered for use in a private home and made in southern California. Measure 27" wide x 26" deep x 28" tall. Brass tacks and brass buttons used in the tuck and roll upholstery. Work and sit as they should and see above and pics for condition. To me these have early 1950's lines like some things done by Gilbert Rohde and Milo Baughman or made by Heywood Wakefield but i'm sure they were made into the 60's and were put in upscale trendy spots at the time. Part of the Artek stamp reads 010870 so that could be a date of production but I am not certain of that fact. The chair seat itself is made of bent birch plywood that has been lacquered black. These are both in very good to excellent condition for a mid-century vintage chair. I have for sale a pair of authentic Milo Baughman lounge chairs. They are upholstered with sturdy high-quality fabric. The frames are made of chromed rectangular steel tubes. The seats have some stains and small worn out spots. One side has more stain than the other. So you can put the good side up for each seat. Please see photos below. The chairs have two metal hooks to hold seats in place. The chrome frame is in very good condition. Most surfaces are shiny and clean. It does have some minor oxidation spots. Up for sale is a pair of Milo Baughman/ Thayer Coggin Chrome Dining Room or Lounge Chairs. They are in nice vintage shape. The chrome is shiny. The white leather print fabric is ok! remains nicely textured, but need to be recovered at some point. The chairs are structurally sound. There is some minor wear to the fabric, including some discoloration to the back, arm rests and seat. This Fabric is from the 70's but it does not affect the chair. Nice pair of Black Leather Zographos bucket chairs in very good vintage condition. They have been cleaned up and some scuff repairs have been done where they had rubbed on a desk or table.
