Pair of Shelby Williams Gazelle Chairs with New Upholstery Mid Century Modern
This is a pair of vintage iconic Shelby Williams Gazelle chairs with cast aluminum frames from the 1950's. The aluminum has been polished and the seats and backs professionally reupholstered. They look fabulous and are extremely comfortable! These chairs have a great mid century modern design. The new fabric is Robert Allen. Pattern Granular, color Pewter, which is a charcoal grey color, made of 100% polyvinyl on the face, 100% polyester on the back. It is a heavy duty fabric that can be cleaned with water based cleaning agents. It looks just like leather, but is much more durable. This fabric sells for approximately $40 a yard. The chairs are approximately 30.5 inches tall. The seat height from the floor is between approximately 17.25 to 18 inches since the seats slope slightly down toward the seat back. The seat width is approximately ... more16 inches and the seat depth is also approximately 16 inches. The cast aluminum frames are sturdy and intact but have some discolored spots. A couple of the"feet" look like they have been repaired/replaced. The upholstery is brand new and perfect. The screws for the back are new. Pictures 1-4: General pictures of the chairs. Fed. Spec. AA-C-00293 FSN: 7110-273-8755, I looked up the numbers and found one record where these chairs were installed at Marine Corps Base. Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. I don't know where these chairs were originally installed, but according to the numbers, they are the same kind. The metal frames are finished in a very dark gray. The vinyl upholstery is a very dark olive green. The chairs are super strong and sturdy. Each is 17" wide x 19" deep x 32" high overall. The seat height is 17-1/2" high. Nice chairs. Sold just the way I found them. They have been in storage for quite some time and are fairly dirty and dusty. They need a good cleaning. The metal surfaces are free of rust, but they do have chips and other cosmetic marks on them. The upholstery is also dirty as noted, plus there are surface cracks to the vinyl on the seat of one chair, and what looks like adhesive residue where a strip of tape was removed from the other seat. These are two very nice hand painted spoon back arm chairs. L would say they were made in England although they look French, l purchased them in England. The one with the brown seat and dark fabric to the back is circa 1880. The other one l would say it later maybe 50 or 60 years old and painted to match the other one as a pair. l am selling them as a pair as they look fine together. The one with cream fabric is a little larger than the other one, maybe one is a ladies and the other one is a gents. The one with the cream fabric is just a tinge darker than the other one. Wonderful pair of carved oak chairs with serpentine caned back. Structurally sound and quite comfortable. Slight differences exist between the two chairs.one is a bit smaller overall. And caning is a bit darker Original leather seats have a cracked. Stained and distressed appearance but are not brittle or disintegrated. Caning is in excellent condition. One chair has had two L brackets installed in the past as reinforcement on the inside front legs-only noticeable from certain angles-and has some chips on one of the leg carvings.
