These two chairs are amazing decorative objects and they truly reveal their age. I have been told they may be from Shandong possibly El m wood or Teak I am not sure exactly what kind of wood. D efinitely from Qing Dynasty which lasted from 1750 to 1850. The interesting thing about these chairs is that there were NO Nails in the making of them! They are also decorated with S wastica symbols which mean Endless Luck& happiness in C hinese culture. They are are hand made and in some areas in the ba se you can still see the natural shape of the tr ee that were not carved and used as support. Unusual Pair of Chinese Carved Hardwood Corner Chairs
Quite elegant and delicate pair of Chinese chairs made of precious hardwood that looks suspiciously like huanghuli. There are two reverse teardrop hardstone panels on each chair surrounded by carved traditional embellishments. The seats are of a wonderfully chiseled chamfer with apron fronts on three sides. The lovely carved horseshoe type arms are supported by graceful sloping supports and the legs curve down to abbreviated paw-like forms. The back has a graceful carved back support. Listing this evening a nice pair of Ethan Allen Bracebackchairs in very good condition. They are done in the popular nutmeg color. These were produced for a number of years by Ethan Allen for a few of their lines including American Traditional and Early American amongst others. There are no breaks in the chairs. There is some light wear to the finish on the tops of the rails and on the arms or the armchair from normal use. There are some light scratches on the seat of the armchair but nothing major or noticeable. All joints are tight and strong. Along the same lines as Hans Wegner's"Cigar" chair design for Getema, these beauties were also made in Denmark in the 1950s and just as well made. Unlike so many of chairs in this style that appear on Ebay. These are not a combo of woods or a generic hardwood stained to look like teak. They are each 100% SOLID TEAK throughout(sides, seat, arms and back) with removable upholstered seat and back cushions. Great looking from any viewing angle and they provide excellent comfort. Cushions are the original heavy inner spring design, so no fear of them loosing their shape verses just foam. Upholstery is a wonderful neutral oatmeal ... morecolor woven wool, so will match in any color scheme decor. Seat backs will remove so each chair can ship in its own box via UPS oversize. measurements Overall each chair measures 31.5" high by 25" wide by 29" deep. The seat cushion is 20" wide by 4" high by 21" deep. An extremely rare matched Pair of 18th Century British Colonial Planters Chairs from the Island of Jamaica in the West Indies. This style of Chair was first made in the City of Campeche in the Yucatan Province of Mexico in the 16th Century during the Spanish Colonial era and were originally known as Campeche Chairs. They became very popular with the Spanish Creole Aristocracy in Mexico and were often found amongst the Mexican Colonial antique furniture on the old Haciendas. Where they were also knows as Butaca Chairs. In the 18th Century Spanish Colonists introduced the Campeche Chair also known as the Butaca Chair to Louisiana where they became extremely popular amongst the French Creole Aristocracy who called them Boutac Chairs and introduced them into their Plantation Houses in the Bayous and along the Mississippi River. The Leather-Seated ... moreChars, made from Ox-Hide or Mule-Hide stretched on a Mahogany wood frame, was found ideal for lounging in a Tropical Climate and unlike upholstered furniture it was free from insects. These Campeche Chairs in Louisiana were discovered by the Americans during the Late 18th Century and President Thomas Jefferson even ordered a pair for his Plantation at Monticello in Virginia. This style of Chair was also introduced to Jamaica from Mexico during the 18th Century, probably via Cuba, and until very recently they were known in Jamaica as Spanish Chairs. It was only during the 1970s that people first began calling them Planters Chairs, because they had always been popular with British Planters on the Plantations in Jamaica. RARE Pair 17th C 450 yr old Carved Cromwellian Chairs
Very rare matching pair of English oak Cromwellian chairs dated 1660-1680. Hand carved stretchers and backs. Seats are hand hewn and construction is mortise and tenon. The chairs are remarkably solid for 450 years of age and can even be sat upon without undue fear of damage. There is a period and rather charming repair on one leg that has been reinforced with a hand forged iron band. This repair has aged with the chair and blends nicely with the existing age and patina. One of the seats has surface separation starting of the joins in the planks. The construction appears largely original. Other than the slats in the back replaced in one chair. The replacement was professionally done and is only apparent with very close examination. There have also been some metal brackets added under the seats to reinforce the existing construction.
