This has been in my family since it was purchased with one owner until I was given the table and chairs. I think the cut of wood is tiger or tiger eye as they call it. Mid century modern oak dining/conference table and chairs Danish/Eames
This is an unusual set of chairs and table that could be used as a conference table and chairs or a dining room set. The workmanship is outstanding; there is no maker's mark or company label- only what appears to be a customer's name(Borgia? written in pencil on one of the chairs. The table measures 39" wide x 60" long- 80" with leaf. It is a refractory type table which says dining to me- meaning the leaf pops up from the middle when the sides are spread open. On the other hand. All the chairs have a metal inset on the edges of the back and arms(see photo) that says conference set to me. My best guess is that it was custom made. Notice the way the back has a circular shaped inset to form the curve- a much sturdier design then other curved backs that I have seen. The upright arms give it a modern look. I also cannot ... moretell you it's country of origin- no makers mark or tell tale design. Age unknown too! Sorry I have so little info. I had a mid century modern expert look at it and he too was baffled. Probably Danish. It has some age to it. Whatever kind of set it is, it would make a handsome addition to a home or office. It has been extremely well cared for, after all it's over a hundred years old! The bottom of the table top has been painted black, so i cannot find any markings that might indicate who made it, or the exact year. It has been reenforced with some sturdier brackets underneith. It's in fantastic shape. Two of the chairs are not featured in the pictures, but are included. Two captain's chairs and four side chairs. ALL have the bent wood arms. The captain's chairs just have more turning on the back and legs. The head rest appears to be pressed. The chairs were recovered in a deep green/black leather in the 1980's at over $200 a piece. Used in a law office reception room in Denver for the past 37 years. Some leather show wear. The chairs stand 47.25" tall and 18.25" tall at the seat. The seat is 18" across and 16.6" deep. Late 1800's Solid Oak Lace Caned Seat Rabbit Ear Chairs Dining No Reserve
You are bidding on a set of six early solid oak chairs probably date in the late 1800's. Right when oak was becoming popular. They have solid oak backs where lots of oak chairs have laminated backs and the carving is cut into the wood instead of being pressed into the back, alas the name"pressed back chairs. These chairs have laced cane seats, in other words, each strand of the seat is laced into othe seat by hand. This is expensive and time comsuming. The seats recaned would probably cost half of what I am selling them for. The chairs are tight, all cane is good, finish is a nice medium oak color, could't find anything wrong with them. The spindles are very interesting also. They have the rabbit ear posts and are just a very complementary chair for any decor. Email me with any questions or concerns. Circa 1800s, made from solid oak with three leaves and Victorian decoration. Without the leaves the table is square as can be seen in the photos. It was purchased in the mid-1980s and was totally restored at the time. It is in very good condition. The leaves have their own wooden case. The table sits beautifully. An exceptional piece of furniture which would look outstanding in the right setting. This auction includes two(what I believe are) North Wind(Northwind) oak chairs from the same period. These rare pieces of furniture have also been called Gargoyle and Demon chairs. This style was popular during the late Victorian era(1870-1900) The North Wind face. From folklore, ... morewas supposed to blow evil spirits away. These lion-like faces, however, have bones in their teeth. The chairs are in good condition, for their age, other than some minor wear on the edge of the carving and some discoloration on the leather seats. Up for sale is a really nice set of ch-30 dining chairs designed by Hans Wegner from the original owner. The chairs were purchased in 1963 and stayed in the same house ever since. The chairs are in very good original condition and have never been restored or messed with. In the pictures you can see the chairs have not been cleaned(look at the back rests) I could clean them if you wanted. But I thought I would let the buyer make that decision. The chairs have less than expected wear for the age. And only have a few scratches here and there. These chairs have very thick veneer, so if you wanted to light sand them for a brand new look, you could do it without any problem.
