I have noted in my description of condition above that one of the rush bottom seats on this set is broken through, and simply replaced at present with a wood board underneath the seat cushion. I have taken this into account and am selling these chairs"as is" for a great price for someone looking to invest a little love into bringing them back to their full glory by replacing the seat(s) These side dining chairs stand 37 1/2 inches tall and measure 17 1/2 inches wide by 17 inches front to back. The seat height is 18 inches and the seats themselves are 17 1/2 inches wide tapering to 14 inches wide across the back and 15 inches deep. Front to back. Someone had the chairs reupholstered in a fabric that, in our opinion, leaves a lot to be desired, and in a nice dark oak stain. Back to the upholstery, they heavily cushion these chairs upholstered them attached the upholstery, but then they didn’t put the gimp around the edge on the fabric bottom of the chairs to give it that nice finished look. But it’s very easy to do this yourself. There are a lot of videos online that show you how to upholster chairs and trim chairs like these. It’s very simple, and my daughter did this kind of upholstery for years here in the shop when she was a teenager. It’s a great, fun project.

Crafted during the first years of the 19th Century. It has a wonderful black paint over another layer of reddish orange, probably also a layer over the original and currently unknown color. The back of the chair has a graceful bow, carefully grasping each through-tenoned splinted spindle before diving through the single solid plank pine seat. The seat is heavily patinated, with deep grooves and wear from decades of active use. The entire chair sits over four splayed bamboo carved legs, all four of which tenon through the plank seat before being secured with a splint, each held firmly and perfectly in place with a bamboo carved H-stretcher. This is a most charming chair, in excellent condition with wonderful patina and character throughout- the early painted surfaces are probably not the original layers, but seem to protect earlier layers beneath, these quite possibly the earliest surfaces. A wonderful find for those that are passionate about fine windsor chairs. Measurements: Seat 13.5" wide x 14.5" deep. The seat sits 16" from the ground and the back of the seat is 33.5" high. Condition Report: Paint worn throughout. Probably not the original surfaces. Deep groves and losses in the plank seat. Chips and abrasions throughout. One nail, appears to be modern, on side of chair stabalizing hoop back. Plank seat split with a butterfly joint securing seat from beneath and two screws locking it in place. Chair is structurally strong, but could possibly be too weak to use functionally as a chair. Please review the images in the slideshow for a full overview of condition.

for sale a great set of antique solid quartersawn oak dining chairs with nicely carved crests. the chairs are all rock solid and have not even a hint of a wiggle. 12 English Cromwellian upholstered oak dining chairs c1645 Very Rare set of 12 English Cromwellian period oak dining chairs with turned legs. And plain side stretchers, the front stretchers turned and with turned uprights, c1645. Each chair measures 42 inches high, 19 inches wide, 19 inches to the seat and 17 inches deep. The set was purchased from an English monastery in 1975 by a London dealer operating under the name"The Oak and Walnut Shop" which was located at 98 Crawford Street. We have all the original paperwork. The chairs were upholstered in period style with dark red velvet and bronze tacks. One of them is slightly loose and wiggles a little bit but could be easily repaired. 4 of them are totally fine and used daily. The table closed is 68" long and has 4 extension pieces that can be added in 11" increments totaling 112" at full extension.
