Listing tonight is a great estate sale find. A splendid Solid quarter sawn oak rocking chair in great shape. It features nice simple turnings and nice lines. The top crest offers much comfort and no arms make it perfect for small spaces and wrapping a blanket over your knees on the cold winter nights. The rockers are in great shape and the seat was replaced with a hand tooled i believe leather cover with tack heads many years ago. I have two as shown but this listing is for just one of them. The joints have metal brackets as shown. I have not tried to take them off but they both need some TLC. Also.On one of them two of the castors come off if you lift up the chair but I'm sure this is an easy fix. It looks like they were adjustable at one time but someone put brackets on the bottom to keep it from adjusting. I took quite a few pictures to show any damage and the brackets. The one on the left also has brackets on the base but the one on the right does not. They do however still swivel. Antique Wooden Child's Fireside Chair 19th C Restored, Rare, Beech and Oak
This chair originates from Scotland and dates from 1850 or earlier. It has been used recently. The seat is hewn from a single plank of oak not elm. All other parts are beech. The restraining bar has been turned from new beech wood as this had been lost to time. One arm where the restraining bar fits is blocked off with old horn. This chair has been recently restored. Oiled and waxed, not stained. There are some marks commensurate with age and use. There is also an ancient repair involving two staples and this has been repaired again and is part of the character and history of this piece. An historic item. This is a wonderful antique. Quarter sawn oak, child's Morris style chair. Mission oak. This is from an estate so I don't have the history. Please study the many photos I've provided. You can scroll down through the photos to see all 11. It is mortis and tendon construction with dowels. The only nails I see are holding down the seat and maybe some holding the arms. In addition to the dowels. I can't tell if the seat is original or a replacement from another antique chair. I have seen this style of seat on other antique chairs. This all looks very old, probably late 1800s to early 1900s. Condition: I don't see any new repairs or refinish. I see one 3" age split in the back of one arm. It is not creating a problem. We are delighted to offer to the market this stunning Monk's chair/metamorphic chair table. This piece dates to the early 1900's. We do not know the maker and any tage were long ago removed. Made from solid oak. This chair is a piece of art as well as a functional conversation piece. The back of the chair slides upward and flat across the arms to transform this piece into a functional table. The diameter across the top of the table is 36" It has a height of 29" The back side of the table which serves as the chair back has finely detailed carving representing a gothic lion head. The face has finely detailed teeth and whiskers. The inset eyes are made from glass and they glow when the light hits them just right. Quite a fascinating design. The ornate carved and scrolled arms have spindles flanking a heavy center pieces. The ... morefront of the chair has turned columns leading down to the seat frame box. Below the frame there is a section section boasting turned legs and straight mission style stretchers. The legs sit on the original brass casters. The arms have a height of 28" to the top of the scrolled area. The chair has a width of 22 7/16" from the outside edges of the arms and 18.5" from the inside edges of the arms. The depth at the center front to the back at the table is 23.75" The seat height is 15" to the wood edge and 20" to the top of the cushion. The cushion is not original to this piece and it is clear that someone did a poor recovery on it. There is some light soiling to the fabric and it is overhanging in some areas. The chair base has some very light surface scratches that are age and use appropriate. The table top also has some light scratches and divets from age and use. Overall the piece is in great condition and is absolutely stunning to look at. This is a previously owned item and it is being sold as shown. But it is missing a piece of wood between the rear legs. still very sturdy. For a chair that has been in our fami ly for a very long time. We know very little of it. My father always remembers this chair in his gra ndmother's home- my dad is 86) What I do know is it measu res about 35" from floor to the top of the backrest. The seat is about 21" from the floor and if 13" deep x 15" wide at the front. It has scratches and nicks from Y EARS of use and a la yer s of dirt and dust from years of storage and use. Please look to the photos and use the zoom to discover these. The b l ack seat is missing to fasten ing tacks on the left rear side. This is what I think: the unique decoration on the b ack is not inl ay. But a clever use of stain, I think. The parts loo k to be origi nal. But again. I cannot be sure. I think it dates back to the 1800s, but because the only person who can say they remember ... morewas born in the 1920s-then it could be as late as that or even the early 1930s. Honey. I shrunk the Stickley Morris chair" Antique rare Stickley Brothers child's Morris chair w/ new leather cushions. All quartersawn oak. The size is 20-1/2" wide. 23" deep measured at the arms, and 30" tall when the back is in the forward pin location. Marked three times.signed w/ metal Quaint tag. Has the inkstamped production number, and there is the single tack nail that once held the oval paper label(now missing) Very good condition! The only exception is a chip missing on underside of the right arm at the rear(see last photo) Oak frame is solid. Tapered arms mimic the frame that splays out back to front. Early slatted seat support. Ladder style back adjusts w/ removable pins. New cushions are nice w/ corded edges. Tabs at the top of the back cushion, high quality foam, zippered bottom of back cushion for ease ... moreof insertion/removal of back filling and ventilation. Durable thick leather. This piece is super cute.everyone who sees it is just enamored w/ the diminutive size and the fact that is has the exact same detailing that a larger Morris chair has. If you stop to think about it.
