This is a beautiful antique hand carved oak platform rocker that has been totally restored. The wood was finished in a satin clear and it has brand new upholstery with all new padding. The fabric is blue cotton velvet with a rose floral pattern. It is a very comfortable chair, and very tight and solid. Most chairs from this period were small and narrow. Not this one. The seat is extra wide, and I padded up the seat to make it sit at normal height for the average modern person. All of the carving is perfect. Civil War Era Antique Walker Browne Oak Portable Dentist Chair 1882 Barber Koken
The Skeleton Key is very proud to offer for sale an original 1882 Walker Browne Portable Dentist Chair made by the Walker Browne Dental Company. This chair was made for the traveling dentist and was carried from town to town in a horse and carriage. Chair is in exceptional condition with minor nicks and scratches here and there. There is one repair that I can see on the left where the recline bar adjustment attaches to the back rest. A dowel was placed in the screw hole for reinforcement. It has no breaks or cracks. All original hand forged iron bolts. Nuts and hardware. Not sure if leather seat is a replacement and if so how long ago it was done. Has wrinkles from use so, not really sure. Velvet on head rest is in pristine condition with some light wear on the lower right and left area. Two versions of the chair were available, the plain ... moreoak version and the antique oak version with metal parts. This is the antique oak version. I sat on it(130 lbs) and it was solid as a rock All I did was bring the wood back to life with some orange oil polish. Please see the old tin type I found of the chair in use and two old newspaper advertisements for the chair as well. I have done extensive research on this chair and cannot find another example anywhere in any other shop or site. Not even at the Dental Museum in South Carolina. They have two similar examples in their collection, but not the Walker Browne. The first technologically driven barber chair was patented by Koken in 1878, this chair has a patent date of 1882 so it is a very early example of very innovative designs and engineering including 7 different levels of height adjustment, three angles of reclining, adjustable head and foot rest, and of course the ability to fold up. Seven turned spindles run down the back of the chair. Wide bentwood oak arms flank each side of the seat. The seat was originally cane but has been replaced with a black foux leather surrounded by brass tacks. This is a large solid sturdy chair with no apologies other than normal signs of use commensurate age. The chair has been refinished and is ready to add a warm touch of the past to any home or office. Back is wiggly-probably just needs tightening. One seam on seat of chair is beginning to separate. Bottom of chair legs are losing their finish. Scuffs and scratches here and there. For your consideration I have a beautiful Art Nouveau refinished antique Oak and Ash Pressed back bentwood armchair/ office chair. The chair is clean and in great condition and ready for your home or office. I completely stripped and refinished and used it for the last 3 years. The chair has been taken apart and reglued where necessary. The cast iron base has been cleaned and raises to about 22" seat height and lowers to ab out 17" seat height. The mechanism could be tightened up a bit. But I'm 6'6" and 240lbs and seats me just fine. The seat width is 23" wide and 19 1/2" deep and 48" to top of back at the 20" seat height. This chair dates back to late 1800's to early 1900's. There is a beautiful dendriform press into the back complete with rosettes on each upper post. The chair seat swivels and the chair rolls around on casters. 16" wide x 19" deep x 35-1/2" high overall with a 19" seat height as you see it in the pictures. Looking underneath I can see that you can lower it down about 1-1/2" and you have about 6" total screw extending down below the spinning disk. You should be able to raise it 2 or 3 inches anyway. Seat height would then range between about 17-1/2 and maybe 22" You merely turn the disk to change the seat height. I lowered the seat to the minimum for shipment. The seat back has a black material tacked into place on the sides. I think it looks like old leather. But I don't know for sure. Beautiful. I found a few issues which I think are not very noticable. There was a crack in the top of the upright back support timber that I had to glue(the crack extending below the slot was not glued) One nut securing that support was replaced with a more modern one at some point, there is a split in the wood surface on the back of the seat back, one tack is missing from the back support, and there is a

I just love Morris chairs because they were the forerunner of todays recliners and were created over 100 years ago. This one is especially nice because it has paw feet. Beading across the stretcher and the reclining mechanism is accessible to operate while remaining seated. It was refinished several years ago and remains in excellent condition. These"Morris" style pieces of solid quartersawn furniture with carved claw feet have been in my home for over 25 years and rarely used to sit on due to preservation issues. Condition of both pieces fabric cover is very good to excellent. No visible manufacturer markings found on either piece. Potential collectors. I have never seen the double"Morris" style love seat in over 40 years of antique furniture collecting. Beautiful antique oak commode/potty chair. This chair was"spruced" up by the studded circular patch centered on the seat some years ago. I believe this chair is from the early 1930's. It is in wonderful condition. No obvious flaws or issues. There is a shallow scratch on the left side of the circular patch, close up picture is included. This wonderful 1940s antique drawleaf table and four 4 chairs are 100% all original. Yes this auction does include/come with the 4 chairs also. The table and chairs are in perfect structural condition as you can see. I bought this table about 10 years ago. The sticker price was $1,200 and was able to get it for $800. Please know this auction is a STEAL truly and I really am happy for the person that gets this great set. This would also be VERY easy to buy and flip it for double if not almost triple the price.
