The seat has the same scrolling needlepoint frame for a pair of petit point embroidery birds. The seat is spring cushioned. It has an EXCEPTIONAL FRAME WITH HEAVILY CARVED DETAILS. The arms feature long, carved bellflower swags. The chair is crowned with a rose swag pediment. Beaded carving accents are abundant. The legs are fluted and the back legs flare dramatically. Very elegant, heavy pieces of antique 19th century striped woven upholstery silk, it was once a chair back for a Louis chair. It is made up from two matched pieces that have been hand sewn together. The colours are rich and vibrant: deep pink. Yellow, black, deep green& brown. The silk is woven with linen making it more hardwearing as an upholstery silk. It measures about 19.5" by 15" or 49.5 cms by 38 cms. The condition is mostly good overall. Just some little holes around the edges where it was nailed into place on the chair, see photos.
