The gilded paintwork on this piece is quite outstanding- forget the shabby chic look with rubbed-back. Multicoloured effect, this is the real deal, built up(or should I say worn down) over years of loving ... moreuse. This fantastic settee is well proportioned. And has the elegance and style so often associated with Louis XV pieces. It features small graduated and fluted legs, elegantly sweeping arms, a shaped back featuring carved rosettes, and that gilding! a patina that oozes age and charm. There is natural wear to the gilding, resulting in small flashes of green, brown and rust colours coming through. Very chic! The settee measures 94cm in height. And is 159cm wide across the the two arms. The actual frame of the chair is in very good condition for age. As with all gilded pieces of this type. There is wear to the gilding, giving great effect, and a few chips and touch-ups to the gilding. The upholstery is in good condition free of rips and tears. The padded arm supports are faded when compared to the rest of the fabric, and there are a few"pulls" in the fabric. But certainly no reupholstering necessary, unless it is your preference. Originally a chair seat cover for a Louis chair, worked in silk and wool on linen canvas. The design is beautiful, delicate trailing foliage and roses in wonderful colours, it would look beautiful framed or perhapd made into a cushion/pillow front, or it could be used in a chair restoration. It measures about 27" by 24" or 69 cms by 61 cms and weighs about 300g. There is some wear that could be restored; some loss of stitches and thinning in patches near the front of the panel where it received most wear, a delicate patina and some slight fading evident around the edges where the needlework was nailed onto the chair-back and is as it was. Vintage Mid Century French Louis XVI Large Bergere Wing Chair w/ Ottoman. This beautiful chair has an outstanding flowing form with a solid wood frame throughout. This is a mid century piece done in the French Louis XVI. With a couple unusual embellishments. It has a pair of very attractive curved wings on the sides, and the ottoman a rail on the back, making it look like a bench or stool. The ottoman conforms to the front of the chair to make one large, stately piece of furniture. It looks like it may be the original mid century upholstery, and it suits the chair quite nicely. The modern zig-zag pattern is complemented with a solid pattern on the back of the chair and ottoman. I do not know the maker of this piece but it is certainly a high quality piece that was well taken care of over the years. The chair measures 44" tall x 35" ... morewide x 33" deep. The ottoman is 24" tall x 33" wide x 25" deep. Good vintage condition. Looks and displays great. Only some minor condition issues. Structurally sound and fabric is in good condition(although there is a faint impression in the back from another piece of furniture) Light scratches and rubbing to the feet all around. One foot on the ottoman has chipping around the base of it. The wooden cross piece on the ottoman is somewhat distressed/worn. This auction is for the actual item(s) as pictured. Taken from a pair of antique Bergere chairs. in great condition with no holes. Brittle dry rot, wear or stains. They are ready to use again for upholstering or pillows. The backgrounds are a nice deep blue with shading getting darker towards the center(these are not faded) and the flowers are a nice persimmon, salmon and peach colors with light blue accents. The leaves are many shades of olive. I would say these are most likely from the 1920s, possibly 40s. The handwork is visible on the flowers only and the rest of the background is woven in a flat weave. I don't see gaps like the 18th century tapestries have. I do see finer thread crisscrossing and securing throughout- this may be what is keeping the ... moretapestry gaps closed. I am not an aubusson expert but I do know textiles. The chair has aged over the years and the upholstery has a hole in it, but the footstool is in perfect condition. Grandpa was an estate sale dealer in the Hollywood area in the early 1950's and took pride in this chair as one of his best finds in the antique business. I have no other information about the chair. I would like to sell both the rocking chair and the footstool as I have to downsize due to my advancing years. I don't even have a way to move them to get them appraised.

You are bidding on a chair that I myself purchased on Ebay and never used. It went straight into a closet as I didn't purchase it for myself but rather for a brother of mine but they went"English" What I like about this chair. Other than the fact that it's a perfect rendering of the classic Louis XV French Fauteuil, is that it's a bit larger than ones from that period. Not huge like something from KREISS furniture but scaled just right for a human body of today. There is nothing rickety or fragile about it. It's very sound. Although the fabric is really beautiful, and they must have used a very good upholsterer, it needs to be re-done unless you're okay with the shabbyness of it. There are some water spots on the seat cushion fabric that are noticeable. The loose seat cushion has a down filling. We are pleased to offer this beautiful antique settee/chair. This piece has gorgeous. Parisian lines and features a wooden frame with ornately carved floral details in the French, Louis XVI style. The frame is whitewashed and is paired with a gold striped velvety fabric. The paint is very old and may very well be original to the chair. The gold does pull a light green in certain lighting so there is a greenish undertone to the gold. The chair is antique to older vintage and is from the early half of the 20th century. It is rounded in shape with a curved/arched back. The chair has a removable cushion(not attached to the chair) It is stuffed with a combination of feathers and batting. The cushion is very full and comfortable to sit on. The chair has had a custom slip cover made for it at some point. The cover is a heavy cotton and has zippers ... morelocated on the back of the cover and on the cushion. It has finished details such as piping and ruffles. It hides the wooden frame but it is custom made for the chair and therefore I am including it with the chair. The original fabric is in very good condition with only minor signs of age/wear. There are no rips, tears, etc. The wood is also good with a"chippy" paint appearance that adds to the aged character. The frame is in good condition for its age. There are some minor cracks which are not severe and can be corrected if you so desire. The chair is sturdy but, because of its age, it is not a piece that is meant for everyday or heavy use. It is a lovely accent chair with elegant and graceful lines and details. I am guessing that the slipcover is about 40 years old(based on the stitching and the zipper style) It is in very good condition but it does need to be hand washed as it does have some soiling around the bottom where it has touched the floor. 1904 St Louis World Fair Hand Carved Mahogany German Double Eagle Chair
45" H x 26" w x 24" D. According to the estate sellers. this carved mahogany chair was made in Germany and reputed to have been brought to the 1904 World's Fair by the German delegation to the fair. It would have been used in the German Pavilion on Art Hill for the duration of the fair. The story as told by the owner of this chair on how she acquired it, and what she was told of its history is: The owner lived for a number of years in St. Louis, Missouri where her husband worked for IBM. The owner found the chairs in the late 1960s on the back porch of an elderly couple named Sherman& Louise Merrit. The original leather seat and leather back cushion covers where deteriorated due to exposure, but the mahogany wood was in the same nearly perfect condition that you currently see. The Merrit's told the the owner that ... morethey had purchased the chairs from the German delegation of the 1904 World's Fair. The German's were in a rush to depart and were trying to quickly get rid of things that they could easily sell. The Merrits bought 2 chairs(one with arms and one w/o arms) from the Germans. The Merrits painted their names and the date(1906 I am told) on the bottom of the chairs. Since that time the seats/backs have been recovered and fabric conceals the area where the names and date are located.Although, we have no physical evidence of any kind to connect these chairs to the 1904 World's Fair; the owner is a very sincere reporter, and WorthPoint examined photos of the chairs stating: WorthPoint says, the theme and carvings on the chair fit the period.the wood is clearly hand-carved and the chair is clearly an antique. The story of the chair being sold by the German delegation to an American couple(in order to avoid the expense of shipping it back to germany) is quite believable. Selling of display fixtures to avoid re-shipping was done regularly. The German Pavilion was often heard by fair-goers before it was seen. Its beautiful dome contained a chime of bells that sounded each hour.
