All screws, and soft, cushy foam cushions. it's 39" at the widest point on the arms and 35.5" high. the clasp on one of the hooks that holds the cushions in place is broken so it doesn't close completely. no rips. Vinage Jens Risom Lounge Arm Chair For Knoll
Fantastic Jens Risom for Knoll strap lounge chair. The chair has been re strapped I'm guessing not by a professional. The frame appears to have been stained red at one point long ago. The chair does hive wear as expected for a chair over 50 years old. The 2 screws that hold the seat to the frame are not present. And easy fix but I will leave that up to the buyer to replace. This is an authentic. Original Knoll 1960's or 70's Brno flat bar chairs designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for Knoll in 1930. It show no wear to the chrome. With only some light evidence of use. The fabric has on small tear back side of chair about 1" Otherwise fabric in good vintage condition but needs new foam. But really easy to reupholster. Jens Risom- signed& dated 1955 Original Upholstery Exceptionally rare. Early& signed"The Playboy" model C140 Chair by Jens Risom Design Inc. 1955. One of the great chairs that needs no introduction. Featured in the famous 1961 photograph with other modernist designers in Playboy and forever thereafter referred to as"The Playboy Chair" This chair since created has been considered one of the best ever produced and praised. What makes this pair so exceptionally special is that while the chair was in production for a time. And copied by other companies extensively. Finding one with the early label from Jens Risom Design Inc. confirming it is an authentic Jens Risom production is very hard to come by- This chair has the Jens Risom Design Inc. paper label on the bottom of the chair. On the frame and has the delivery ... moretag, and are also dated on the wood(see internal frames under seat) These chairs were made in May 1955 and early work is very rare. Lavish use of walnut. Cane, rattan and exceptional design the chairs are more than comfortable, with the right amount of sculptural element for any decor. Frames are near flawless. The rattan has a minor blemish see top middle left hand side. The Upholstery was faded, removed had foam added(still has the original hog/horse hair) And the fabric was flipped over as it was not faded on the underside. The fabric features a few small blemishes most important to the left side near frame where the weave is loose. You may wish this replaced. Up for sale is this fabulous pair of Richard Schultz Knoll Chaise Lounge Outdoor Chaise Chairs Style C. They were originally made in 1966. They have a sturdy frame and a well made fabric trimmed in leather. They are a Conn estate find and are in very good condition. The paint on the frame is all in tact and the leather with heavy white thread trim is all in tact except for 2 very small areas where a stich is missing. One does have 2 small areas where the fabric needs to be repaired but other than that they are awesome. They do need a fabric cleaning just to brighten them up a bit but I will leave that up to the buyer. HISTORY LESSON Harry Bertoia was born in Italy in 1915. And moved to the US when he was 15. He studied art and design in high school and college and finally, in 1937, won a scholarship to Cranbrook Academy of Art, where he met Charles and Ray Eames, Eero Saarinen and Walter Gropius. Bertoia was heading the metal workshop by 1939. But WWII had made metal scarce and expensive, which forced Cranbrook to suspend his workshop in 1943. WWII demanded that designers apply their talents to the war effort. Bertoia and the Eameses moved to California to work on equipment for military application. After the war. They applied their developments in military plywood and plastics to domestic furniture. Working for the Eameses by day, Bertoia took welding classes at night. It is commonly accepted that he designed the metal base of the Eames’ famous DCM and LCM chairs. Frustrated that he wasn’t getting credit for his designs.
