It seems that since the first Nichols set foot into the New World. They've been producing fine quality chairs and passing on that skill to the next generation. As early as 1762, there was a Nichols Brothers Chair Manufactory in Westminster, Massachusetts, which was worked by bewhiskered Nichols too numerous to mention. As the country grew, the Nichols' chair business grew, too. By 1857. It was already an established company that became the benchmark in craftsmanship. At the turn of the century, the business was moved to neighboring Gardner, Massachusetts to gain easier access to the railway. The second of two fires leveled the plant, but adversity was turned into opportunity. An updated brick factory was opened in 1907 by Charles Nichols, with his new partner Reuben Stone, under the name Nichols& Stone. Having survived these natural disasters. For your consideration is a original vintage antique Lambert Hitchcock Chair in a rarest" Bee Hive Pattern" The chair is in excellent structural condition with all original painted stenciling. There is evidence of wear on the painted surface but the stencil remains visable. The chair is solid with no joinery movement and is in the best structural condition possible. Some remants of the original rush seat remain.This is an outstanding find for any chair collector. A recent search of Ebay lists a set of 6 for approximately $1900. Although there is no manufacturer ID. Based on research. That's consistent with their high chairs. Hitchcock only made a few of these chairs in the 1970's and they are rare and hard to find. This particular high chair is very nice. It is green. Light brown, tall and sturdy. The tray easily comes off and clicks back into place. It even has a foot rest for baby's feet! Antique Side Chair in the style of Hitchcock or Sheraton
A primitive. Hand made, in the style of a Hitchcock and something less of an earlier Sheraton, side chair. Like that of a Hitchcock in that it is light, only about eight pounds, It is a lacquered, dark brown or black finish. The legs are definitely Early American spindle. It is missing the lovely bright golds and painted patterns and florals typical of a Hitchcock. Which, even if it had them this is only"in the style of" Those chairs were so popular in the day that others started imitating them. And that is what is for auction. I can't date it precisely. But I'm certain it is pre 1900 and would guess more around 1850's to 1865 or so. Just going off the condition and general feel from other pieces I've had that I knew the age of. It stands a total of only 30 1/2" Another sign of it's age. Touching the seat, ... moreyou can feel the textures of the hand carved wood work, fascinating. Condition. sitting on carpet. It doesn't have any wobble at all! Solid. You can see where the one piece of wood used for the seat has had some shrinkage over time, resulting in the beginnings of some natural splitting. Kept in a good environment this process should be easily kept in check. Don't display the piece outside or in the sun. And one vital admission. I buy for resale and one of my best"scouts" who buys and then sells to me, is a WW2 veteran. He loves going to auctions and honestly half the things you see seem to have come from him lately. But, he insists on cleaning everything, and I can't get him to stop. Looking at the back of this chair. Where the flowers, or gold, whatever, should be. I'm seeing a shiny spot where I'm certain someone touched this up! Both of the backrests have it. Where proper wear from use should be, the best finish remains? Uh huh, but my friend denies everything. And I am not going to fault or dishonor him, he's who he is and the chair is now what it is. Antique Early Thumbback Hitchcock Side Chair Old Stencil Paint Ct Conn USA 1880s
There is a little discoloration on seat. Black has a greenish tinge or hue, very old paint, crackling or alligator effect. The front cross piece of wood is well worn from years of feet resting on it. I'm guessing this is from the 1880s, the company was starting around 1808 I believe.

Antique circa 1825 Signed Hitchcock Turtle Back Chair Stenciled Black Rush Seat
Antique stenciled Hitchcock side or parlor chair. Uncommon"turtle back" shape has characteristic gold stenciling over a black finish. The main design features a group of fruits with additional geometric accents across the chair. The chair also has a rush seat and turned legs and stretchers. The company signature on the back of the seat dates this chair between 1825 and 1832. This chair is in very good condition considering its age. There is some breakage to the rush seat as well as damage to the painted finish. Mostly at edges and corners. See pictures. No other breaks or repairs. The chair stands 34" tall and measures 18" wide. The seat is 15.5" deep.

Up for Auction is an amazing antique 1800s handpainted Fancy Chair. It has Black paint with Red Highlights. It looks like the top part has a couple of red strawberries with leaves. There are gold stencil highlights along the legs and two top panels. There are also Heart stencils. This is an exquisite chair and is in excellent structural condition. The chair has a rush seat that looks to have some kind of yellowish overcoat to protect the seat. This was done presumably at time of construction or shortly thereafter. The seat is in amazing condition both structurally and presentation. The chair measures 321/2" tall. From floor to top of seat is 161/2" The wood on the chair has lots of wear marks of scuffs and scratches that is typical for a chair of this age. The stenciling is faded but still visible. Up for sale a Hitchcock Shaker style Baby High Chair/Booster Seat. This is a vintage and antique item. This style high chair is very rare and hard to find. But it is nice. It is maple and black. It is tall and sturdy. The tray easily comes off and clicks back into place. This high chair even has a foot rest for baby's feet. There are signs of use as I've tried to detail in photographs. The top of the tray has some greenish stain mark, one rung in the back of the chair was at some point loose and glued in. There is a small split in the wood as shown in one of the pictures. A simple country style Hitchcock chair. The paint has worn off the back splats but is still present on the front spreader. The caning is in excellent condition. I'm selling this lovely antique rocking chair for a friend. She's owned it about 50 years and it was old when she bought it. She was told it was a Hitchcock chair. But I do not see any markings. This is a woman's rocker- a nursing rocker or sewing rocker- since it has no arms. Not sure what the wood is.maybe walnut? I'm no expert on these. There have been repairs to two of the legs, very long ago. Wood shows the wear and age you would expect from a piece this old. See photos. Vintage L. Hitchcock Eagle-Back Side Chair -Rush Seat -1900's to 1950's-American
This Fascinating Chair is an L. Hitchcock Eagle-back Rush seated chair. The back of the chair is signed L. HITCHCOCK. HITCHCOCKSVILLE. CONN. WARRANTED. The chair is in good condition and does show some areas of more than normal wear particularly in the seat edge. Please look at the pictures carefully. The rush of the seat seems to be in good condition. However it could use a coating of shellac as was done by the original factory. The chair is painted black with Eagle stenciling on the back support and additional gold stenciling throughout the chair. Again please look at the pictures. The rush seems to be original. It does have some black overspray paint on the underneath side which may be from the original production. There is some minor rubbing to some of the gold stenciling through out the chair. The edges of the seats are particularly ... moreworn in terms of the gold and the wood itself. However, I believe these rough spots could be sanded and repainted and will not affect the integrity of the chair itself. The chair is about 35 inches tall. 18 inches wide, and 15 inches deep. We have had this chair for some time. During my research in trying to place an age on this chair I could not determine an exact time. The N's in the signing of the chair are backwards. I read mixed opinions of whether this style was from the 1800's or 1900's. The seat is Rush and that does help determine the age. But again I am not positive. Please understand I am selling this chair, as is. I am not at all an expert in this type of furniture. I am simply selling a chair from our home. This sign says HITCHCOCK AUTHORIZED GUILD DEALER, it shows the old Connecticut chair factory in black, while all the lettering is in gold, item is in good used condition, some very light wear in spots around the edges. one small glaze blemish on the far right of the photo about the size of an eraser, a couple light scratches ... morehere and there, but given all the years probably hanging in a showroom it's held up pretty good. it is oval in shape and measures 27 1/2 inches wide side to side, and 17 1/4 inches top to bottom, item is heavy and solid wood, i would guess maple. buyer to pay shipping and insurance, please feel free to ask all the questions you like during the auction as we strive to keep all sales final. if you are a collector of Hitchcock fine furniture, this will be a really nice and rare item to have. Mr. Hitchcock wanted to take his craft to a new height by using stenciling techniques that glowed with a miniaturist’s artistry. The finishes were fresh and new. This sturdy pair of twin. Gently used vintage black and gold stenciled chairs still have their original 1.5" by 3.5" heavy paper labels stapled to the underside of their seats stating, Manufactured by Boling Chair Company, Siler City, NC, Pattern 264, Color Black A. The High Point Bending and Chair Company became the Boling Chair Company in 1956 and the chairs have been in our donor's family for'many years' So these beautiful chairs probably date from the early 1960s. The Boling Company is renowned for its quality workmanship. As noted in the Condition remarks there is some wear in the gold stenciling in places. And the chairs have accumulated some minor nicks and scrapes over the years. But overall, these two chairs are in remarkably good condition. They are surprisingly heavy at just under 10 lbs each; they feel solid ... moreand the rush seats are in amazingly good condition on both top and bottom. For the most part the stenciled designs are delightfully clear. The chairs stand 33 1/2 inches tall, and the seat is 17 W x 15 D by 18 H. You are bidding on a rare set of 4 signed Hitchcock Chair Co. crown top. Crown back rush bottom chairs. The chairs are done in black with the gold stenciling and have the swirled grain painting accents. The chairs are very sturdy and the rush bottom seats are in very good shape, there are the usual nicks and dings to the paint as well as some paint loss. The chairs are 17 3/4" wide x 17 1/4" deep x 35 1/2" high; and the seat is 18 3/4" high. These are a rare find from Hitchcock and would be a great addition to any home or collection. After payment is received, you may pick them up or we will work with the shipper of your choice; one idea would be to box them and send them FedEx, another would be to check with TSC Moving for a quote. She's owned it about 50 years and it was old when she bought it. She was told it was a Hitchcock chair. But I do not see any markings. This is a woman's rocker- a nursing rocker or sewing rocker- since it has no arms. Not sure what the wood is.maybe walnut? I'm no expert on these. There have been repairs to two of the legs, very long ago. Wood shows the wear and age you would expect from a piece this old. See photos. Nice find! about 35" at the tallest- when sitting still. 20" wide at the top. the seat is approx. 16" at the wide.
